[ok on a more serious discussion note. in Australia they are trying to create new laws concerning L and P plate drivers. which are learners and provisional 1 and 2 licenses which youve got to go through before getting a full license.
the restrictions they are trying to impose:
Curfew on night driving. so no driving at night
Only one passenger
Limited to 4 cylinder and less cars
Have to attend VERY BLOODY expensive driving seminars
drive all their learner hours(50+) with qualified driving instructors which cost $40 an hour.
what do you guys think??
Hmm. No night driving when learning seems a little ridiculous. If they pass that then everyone will be experiencing driving at night for the first time with NO instructor.
One passenger also seems a bit nuts. What do you do if you're learning when you're older and have a family? I understand where this is coming from though - no more groups of young men egging each other on.
Low powered cars seems a good idea, but then once someone has passed they can go out and buy any car they like. So then they could be driving a sports car without any practice at controlling it.
Driving seminars are certainly good, but they should be affordable.
$40x50hrs=$2,000. I think they're trying to say you shouldn't drive.
Glad to know it's not just the UK that likes to put silly laws unthought out laws through...
Oh, and thanks very much for the 'tar - it's utterly fantastic!!
With regards to the job, I know where you're coming from but afraid I disagree. I think we all would like to know that in a life crisis you can count on your workplace to understand when you can't give everything to them. Not that this happens much. My colleagues at the same level as me and my boss's boss all said (or implied) that had they been in my situation they would have gone sick a long time before I did.
I know that they weren't in the situation and it's easy to say that, but their support was very helpful. When (if) I go back I realise I'll need to put the hours in before I can hope to get back to the level I was, but with the support of my peers that won't be too much of a bind.
There most definitely ARE better jobs out there. Anyone who has ever worked in a call centre will tell you that they are not nice jobs to have. However, when I got it I had been working for myself for a couple of years and was in a bit of a financial problem. Beggars couldn't be choosers, so I took the job.
Now I've had 2 years there and so finding something else shouldn't be so hard so long as I can be bothered to look (and they don't look at my sickness record... )
Thanks for the support over the chemo (and thanks to Kaysaar as well). Fortunately this wasn't one where Anne's hair was going to drop out (it has thinned quite a bit though), so no pictures needed. The last session is on 17 Dec so hopefully she'll be feeling OK-ish at Christmas. Otherwise I think we'll have a late festive season.
