Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

This is going to be my secondary character for ****s and giggles. Random PvM when I'm bored and farming items for Uber. My main will be pure PvP and that's where all my wealth will go into.

So I was wondering if this set-up will be good enough for farming uber-items and kill them. Also, if these items will be easily traded with just p-gems. Thanks!

My skill distribution will be just like that 1-pt smiter guide:
20 Zeal
20 Sacrifice
20 Fanaticism
20 Holy Shield
1 Salvation
Rest into Defiance

The thing that got me into thinking this is viable is because I read someone's experience with a smiter where he had all the best damage equipment, but died so easily. He switched up some of his gear and realized survivability is infinitely more important than having super high damage. Low damage smiter vs high damage smiter was only the difference of 30-60 seconds per uber.

Anywho, since this is my secondary character, I wanted items that are easily obtainable and would help me survive against the Ubers. Here they are:
Nord's Tenderizer (Shael for max BP of both Zeal and Smite) - 15% Cold Absorb
*Demon Limb* - Enchant Switch
4OS Shield (4 x P.Diamond)
Kira's (Ith for Mephisto's mana burn)
Guardian Angel (15% Resist Jewel - Can I get this with p-gems?)
Verdungo's / String - This will be my only source of DR...
Dracul's Grasp - Mandatory lifetap
Goblin Toe - 25% Crushing Blow - Only source of CB
Metalgrid - Resist, DR, AR for PvM
Dwarf Star - Fire Absorb
Wisp Projector - Lightning Absorb - Can I get this with p-gems?

My goal is not to have to switch around any equipment at all. I just want to stick with this and not have to bother with equipment swapping. The only issue here is that my life will only be at around 1300. Might have to get cheap life charms. But my resist will be super awesome.

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

You can't get @ with pgems, nor lightning absorb.

OW and cb are covered with Draculs and Gobline toe..... Don't know if the Guardian angel will be of such a big help considering that Mephisto will drop that resistance down way bellow the max resistance mark. Maybe a Smoke would be better?

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

True. But Guardian Angel will help with the other bosses. Plus the faster block and extra block rate is pretty sweet against the physical attacks. So 15% resist jewel and wisp projector can't be gotten with p-gems? The other items should be cheap to get, though?

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

my ideas for your din for ubers only. i am do not know a lot of pvm zealers, but i know a bit about ubers :)

weapons: wizzy with shael in ( ias + 75% res )
shield: 4 pdiamond paladin shield with res should be awesome
kira and ith for baal mana burn, not mephies :p
goblins sounds fine, but gores are more common and cheap as well, maybe them? but lower cb :S but higher OW and you getting crit ( crit goes to smite iirc )
drac's are fine there
i d get either cat's eye or High Lords for amulet.

guardian angel... if you have problems with mephie's aura, cheap solution: viper magie. and instead of 15@ res jool, how about either ort ( +30 lighting res rune, mephie in close combat deals meanly lighting damage ) or um rune ( 15@ rune, cheaper then 15@ jool iirc )

and dudngos are fine ^_^

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

Treachery is a nice armor for the chance to cast fade; vipermagi or goldskin can give ~35res.

Id say that the most important parts are:
1) life tap - thus Id recommend getting a life tap wand/weapon to cast it; since the life tap on dracul's doesnt trigger enough
2) resists - kira + LOTS of resists small charms are a nice option; my smiter has around 50 resists after mefisto's aura thanks to these charms
Id recommend some +2 pala resits amulet, that can be gambled
3) you need some damage to get the life back; crushing blow is your main damage source; thus goblins are better; please note that the last few %of the uber's life will take a momemnt.. personally I use last wish and I think the main source of final damage is open wounds from the draculs

setup:
- kira
- 2x stat/res rings (kira gives cannot be frozen) - resists are important
- +2pala resists amulet; or maybe some high resists amulet without +pala skills; btw. does the dmg to demons from seraph's hymn work vs ubers? I dont think so, but this amu gives +2skills at least
- goblins
- black maybe (thul io nef) for 40% cb? Or some weapon with crushing blow and resists; like crushflange; or gnasher (crushing blow + open wounds; slow though); heaven's light - from more expensive ones; there are lots of uniques with crushing blow
- armor - something with resits; treachery has a chance to cast fade (damage reduction too), but it's hard to trigger
- belt - maybe thundergod; or something with resits
- draculs

I have a better idea:) Collect perfect amethysts, and trade for a really really bad LW pb.. that one item alone will up your uber-ing efficiency+ survival by tonnes:p everythin else u add to it will be icing on ze' cake.

Deadly Strike doesn't apply to Smite (nor to Kicks... what a shame)

A really really bad LW is still way more expensive than 3x his planned equip.

LW sucks for a Smiter.

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

naw he wants to uber.. LW > grief for ubers, grief > all for pvp

LW offers nothing that you cannot obtain through cheaper items in other slots.

Grief > all for a Smiter, period :p

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

meh, do i have to go into detailed explainations:p lol
you pick grief cos of killing speed basically and dmg
LW offers much more flexibility and utility + survival :), but yes it loses in outright dmg/killing speed obviously otherwise there wouldnt even be a debate to begin with:p

one of the reason, some times LW = whole smiter out fit :)

Cheaper gear is available for everything Last Wish does... No arguement there...

But Last Wish offers everything a smiter needs for Ubers in one easy to handle package... It lifetaps, Fades for resists and damage reduction, and has Over 60% Crushing blow... The charged bolts even help kill physical immunes in Trist... You can Uber with cracked gear if you use Last Wish...

All of the attributes of LW allow a person more flexibilty in gear while Ubering... You can swap out your Dungo for Tgod and get 85% light resist... Crushing blow on LW allows you to lose the Gores or Goblin toes and use Hotspurs or Infernos, for 85% fire resist... The life tap lets you change gloves or shield if you choose... A LW with Tgod, 1 Ravenfrost, 1 Dwarfstar, and Hotspurs makes you practically invincable in Trist...

Grief > Last wish for pvp and a 1 point smiter...

Re: Opinions on my Poor & Lazy Man's Uber Smiter

Why would I sacrifice damage for survivability, when I'm already invincible? :)

There is no "tank class" in D2. It's not a mmorpg with the holy trinity. I see no point at all in getting all kinds of sorb, when Smite + Tap > everything not named Oblivion Knight.

Yes, LW has everything a Smiter needs. That is why it is great for non-smiters (read:Hammerdins) with 1 point in Smite and non-smiter gear. A Hammerdin can hit weapon switch and voilà! do the job of a Smiter.

There is no point at all for a proper Smiter (or 1-point Smiter/Zealot) to use LW. The only case where I'd suggest it would be to a clueless player, who cannot comprehend the greatness of Guillaume's, Gores, Dracs, and Treachery pre-buffing. In that case, I'd just tell him, "look, just wield a LW, you'll be fine..." You can call it a "fool-proof" Smiter weapon, and that would be accurate. But that's just it: fool-proof. When people understand the class more, they'll eventually move on.

That's why I think LW is such a fail weapon: it's way too expensive to be a "fool-proof" thingy. Newbies don't tend to have 6 hrs to spare...

Flexibility is a pretty word, but in this case it does not offer you benefits that can even start to compare with Grief's insane damage. :p
