Observations On Quiting.

Mainly I play because I can't kill the people at work and I can't kill the jerk who cut me off on the way home and I can't kill that guy at the grocery store who dropped a jar of salsa and stained my skirt and cut my leg (and have you ever had salsa in a cut????? it is VERY not fun) so I smile sweetly at the people at work, I flip off the jerk who cuts me off, I pretreat the stain on my skirt, I wimper softly as I clean jalepenos out of a cut on my leg and then go kill monsters. I don't quit the game because if I did I would become a danger to myself and those around me .... ok prolly not but hey, it keeps me stress free and costs waaaay less than anger management.

LOL - I am actually very even tempered but those are the ones you have to watch out for. (plus did I mention I quit smoking???????)
:flip:

Bards Tale - hehe - one of my early favs too . Id have to agree that posting a - Im quitting thread - is a waste of time really . Do any of you people care that I quit playing D2 on Feb 29 , 2004 . No Id think not , unless you know me theres no point in me stating this . D2 has a way of pulling people back . Iv'e quit it many times over the years only to get bored of whatever game Im into and find myself once again loading the cd and getting back into it . One thing I would have to say is - for 49 bucks D2 has provided me the most enjoyment Ive ever had out of a computer game . But Im tired of it for now and taking a break - time for D3 anyone ?

cheers :drink:

When I grow bored with Diablo 2, I play Descent 3. When that gets boring, I either play something else, or go back to Diablo 2. Oddly enough, D2 so far has had the longest lasting gaming appeal. I've "quit" before, but came back. Now I realize that I really just take breaks from it here and there.

Addiction from a game? Please.. there is no such thing as being addicted to a game, you merely find it entertaining, which is very understandable--it is a good game--but that is all it is.

Have to dispute this one point. Addiction does come in many forms not merely just physical, psychological and emotional addictions exist also.

Having said that most people who play D2 and yammer on about addiction are merely using the term to imply that the game play does draw you back for more. I would guess 99% of people who would claim, and believe, they are addicted to playing it are deluded, but a small percentage of people would qualify as full blown addiction. For most people the game starts off as enjoyable and becomes a routine, one which they find difficult to break. Blaming it on addiction is merely someone finding something other than themselves to blame for it. Routines are hard to break, especially when they are very familiar and comfortable but they are breakable.

I found my time logging in became less and less. I am pretty much done with the game. I won't claim "it wasted my time", even if said time was wasted I wasted it. I am merely done with the game, I enjoyed it, made some good friends, and had fun.

If a game "wastes your time" don't play it, and don't blame it on the game. Do something else. Otherwise shutup and lay claim to the decision to play it, it was your decision. Its all your responsiblity even if you won't own up to it. Isn't freewill a ***** that way?

I like the i quit threads too. Its like Diablo is badddd. Of course most of us quit to play another game. To be honest if their was another game that i wanted right now i would quit in a second. Of course when i found that game boring I probally would come back. Diablo is just so easy to just play or pick up again. Ive taken 2 extended breaks from Diablo. Both times I played other games, lol. Before Diablo my game imbetween games was heroes of might and magic 2. The problem is for the last 20 years is that no matter the game or games I spend houres playing them :)

I agree with Lucky: why quit? Just play if you feel like it, or don't if you don't.

I disagree with Lucky: this game is addictive for me. After several years, it's mostly worn off though. This is the perfect position for me to be in. I refuse to purchase another game, and now DII doesn't have the hold it used to. I can play it when I'm bored, and stop when I have other things going on. It really interferes with my life very little now.

I agree with Lucky on this one too - the community online is great. The people on this forum are fun to talk to as well.

going cold turkey is easy when you royaly scewed up your router configurations and can't get onto bnet. heck, without all the idiots to deal with, the game gets really boring.

the best way to go cold turkey is to get jailed for a couple of years.

I quit because it was taking WAY too much time away from me. Yes there is a possibility that I might come back in the future, but thats when I have time, I doubt that'll be anytime soon since I'm taking all college courses next year (My last year of high school). For all you thats gone through all this, you know about junior year of high school, SATs, most important year blah blah. You can only do so much in 24 hours, not enough time for d2.

oh by the way, since I quit, my pre calc average has jumped from an 87 to a 100

ive quit.....found toher things to do and games to play. As for the addiction thing i think it can be very addicting. When you find your self giving up sleep and everything in yur life just to play diablo well...i'd say thats kinda addicted.
