Now wait one cotton-pickin minute

Is there a limit in SP as to how long gold or anything can be sitting on the ground? I invariably drop all my cash on the ground, wspecially in Hell, so I dont lose everything when I get whacked. Im running Hell cows, just to see what the drops are like, I drop 880000 gold on the ground, along with the ~450000 Ive collected since then (stash is full). I come back to sell off more elite white stuff and the 880000 is gone. I had been playing for about 1.5 hours. Ive never seen this before....

Yup, there's a time limit. Don't recall exactly what it is, but it's shorter for normal items than for set/uniques if IIRC.

Just a few questions:

Why are you hording cash? What good is it for if it is not used? Stop stockpiling and gamble that cash for better gear.

If you die that often, you have bigger things to worry about than gold loss. See my above comment for thoughts on how to fix the whole dieing thing.

Also, if you die, you lose from your stash. Since your stash is full, you are already losing the maximum possible gold (sorry, I don't know how death and gold loss works, I haven't died in a long time). Why then does it make sense to fill you stash if you are afread of "getting wacked?" It doesn't make sense.

I dont know why I horde cash, its something I do :) It my be me being all materialistic. Anywho, I dont die that often, its just when I do it pisses me off when I lose all the cash Id need for bringing back the merc. As for gambling, I havent gambled anything good except for the occasional nice rare.
As for losing from the stash, when I die, I dont lose anything from the stash, so Im not sure what you are talking about. Im playing 1.10 no mods. I supose, I could just bank a bunch of back-up cash to ATMA, then gamble my heart away....

IIRC, you only lose the cash in your inventory, not what is in your stash. (EDIT: Sorry, I had my names backwards)

I always horde cash. I use it to gamble, and resurrect my moron, and to buy the odd scroll or potion.

The trick is continual gambling. Eventually, it pays off big time, normally in the form of triple-resistence rare gloves/boots/belts.

Many characters get a good portion of their gear through gamling, and in the TWD, gambling is a necessity because of the item restictions.

I hope you become a gambling addict. Now go find yourself a Gheed's.

From the Arreat Summit:

If you are killed, your character will lose a percentage of the total gold both carried and stored in the Stash. This percentage is equal to your character's level but will not exceed 20%. After this 'death penalty' is deducted, the remaining gold your character was carrying falls to the ground in a pile. If the penalty exceeds the amount of gold you were carrying, the remainder of the penalty is deducted from your Stash.

Are you saying that MF % works with gambling? If so, that is awesome. I had never thought of that.

I think the point of the Gheed's (for gambling) is the extra gold and reduction in prices. MF does not effect gambling at all.

Exactly. Gheed's reduces the prices of everything by the listed %. Amulets, my favorite gambling addiction (arguably the hardest to roll good mods on) to around 50k instead of 63k, a very nice reduction.

Not to mention having a Gheed helps getting more money for gambling :)

As a side-note, you will lose money from your stash if you die in a MP game. Single player only lose the money in the inventory. A good habit is if you drop your cash on the ground is to pick it up when you TP back BEFORE you start repairs, resurrecting your merc, buy TPs etc. That restarts the timer.

I thought the timers only start when you leave the area, not when you first drop the gold/item. I could be wrong though. IIRC Gold and regular items (that is, anything not magical/set/unique/rare/crafted/etc.) disappear after 15 minutes if unattended, whereas everything magical and above will stay for 1 hour. I've left potions in town for hours at a time, but as long as I come back to town and visit them periodically (don't even need to pick them up) they never disappear. *shrugs*

I have a Gheeds, and like you said, it helps w/ the reduced prices and the mf/gf. Thanks all for the info, Ive just never had it happen before. Ill keep an eye on it....

My observations:

Non-magical weapons/armor (including runewords!), gold and potions disappear first.
Runes and gems are next, then magical items, then anyting with a quality above magical (which has only disappeared on me in 1.10 while I play the cow level. Town storage is not to be trusted when you play the cow level).

I once had a marathon gambling session (so I was in town the whole time) during which I lost a magical item, but the rare I had on the ground stayed.

Since my WW barb died last night to IM I can tell you first hand that you do NOT lose gold from your stash when you die, just exp. Any gold on you will fall by your corpse and you can pick it up when you retrieve the body. So just keep on hording, or better yet gambling, without having to worry about the occasional death  .
