Newest Helltorch Scam?

This has happened to me on several occasions. I join a game that is titled torch 4 torch or w/e. Me and the maker both show our torches and i click the check, then he says "we have to drop them trade window wont work"

I laugh and tell them to go scam somebody else. They all persist in saying that they cant trade in the window and that we HAVE to drop them to trade.

i know that you can't hold more than one torch...so i don't know how they could pull it off....but i still dont do it.

anybody else had this happen?

You cannot trade a unique charm for the *same* unique charm via the trade window. You can however, trade a unique charm for a different one (ie. Anni for Torch) via the trade window.

Personally I would not trade Unique charms for Unique charms (any more:rolleyes:). 90-99% of all drop games are made to scam you.

The general B.net population is not to be trusted.

edit: and yes this has happened to me, I think I've lost 2-3 torches due to various drop scams

It's true that you can't trade 2 torches in the window. Your best bet is to use HR's (or whatever) and do a 2 part trade when trading with someone on Bnet. It would work like this:

Let say both torches are worth about 3HRs. Give the guy 3HRs for your torch using another character. Then come back and have him return the HRs for his torch. It doesn't matter which side provides the HRs (or other collateral), just as long as you can agree on a value. Otherwise, you are better off trading within these forms with members of good standing.

This is not a scam. Some people though I was trying to steal from them when I told them we couldn't trade Torch for Torch using the window, and they laughed at me too.

They stopped laughing when we both clicked the tick.

What's annoying is that you cannot trade, for example, Storch+Soj for a Ptorch, since it won't work by trade window, and drop trade is risky in those cases.

well, my apologies to anyone who was actually trying to be honest. but i still wont drop trade, too risky. thanks for the info though.

its not risky at all. no one can hold two at once.

if youre in a private passworded game, whats going to happen? if you get dropped you'll just roll back and keep your torch anyway.

if they bring in another character real fast on another computer and try to steal it, you just pick it up first. easy.

hell, most players with any sense dont even bother walking far away from each other. you just go far enough so that you dont pick the same torch back up and youre good.

Blizzard should just allow the torch to be traded for another torch in the trade window. It'll make things much more simple and convenient.

Allowing the trade permits duping, or at least makes it far easier. This will never change, so just set up two non-Torch for Torch trades.

Only once have I ever rolled back and still had items I'd dropped still in my inventory when a game drops. I have, however, lost many, many items because I get dropped and had items on the ground.

You obviously have no experience in scamming people.....not like you should, but still.

With someone you trust.

i meant how would you scam someone

seems to me if it happens its your own stupidity.

even with a drop hack or something, there'd be signs, correct?

lag spikes, suspicous behavior of the person you're trading with, etc?

He just said he won't talk about specifics of scamming, and rightly so I think. So you can pm him as he suggested.

PM me, I don't post scamming instructions in public.

On the flip side, if we, the community know about various scams, we can take measures to prevent them happening to us.

This thread highlights that if you do want to steal from fellow community members they should contect you privately for further instructions. Nice.

Members of this community are outnumbered by "Guests" on a regular basis here. As of right now, there are 573 people reading these forums, and only 200 of them are members. So, we have to be responsible with what we say. If you feel strongly about it and the guy is willing, perhaps you can have a mod approve the posting of it for you?

Stating you won't post how to scam people is sort of like saying you won't help them avoid getting scammed. How do you avoid it if you don't know how it happens? I don't think anyone on this forum is both a good enough 'scammer' and a good enough teacher that they could give a specific instance that never occurs in legitimate trades everyone should look for and avoid. If there was, they would've posted it by now, instead it's just 'don't do drop trades' even when Torches can only be traded that way, extremely limiting the game's usefulness.

How about explaining the process to Blizzard so they can stop the scamming? You wouldn't want all the cheaters on the Battle.net forums knowing?
