New Summon Necro.

I need help to decide on what my summon necro should ue item wise, and what is stats should be..

i have read the threads and diff. people are saying diff. things. plz HLP
 
My Necro:

get corpse explosion to 13 yards no matter what

I have:
lvl 49 skeletons
lvl 48 mages
lvl 51 summon mastery

I solo everything, baal, im about to uber in 20 or so minutes, he is unstoppable i duel with him, just summon mages and cast lower resist and mages do al work, he has great res, im working on getting 6 5 res scs, i have 3 right now and when i get 3 more ill have max res hell unless i want to socket shako with a Um then ill have max res... hope this helps!

Infinty on merc is ultimate boss killer.... dont get pride having 2k dmg skellis are a waste, ce is biggest killer, clay golem > irongolem

basic gear, not perfect but will get the job done.
Helm: harlequen crest (shako)
Weapon: HOTO or Arm of King Leoric
Shield: Homunculus
Amulet: Maras
Rings: Stone of Jordans, Ravenfrost, any other (dwarf star good for fire absorb and life)
Belt: Arachnid or Trangs if you need the cannot be frozen or do not want to pay for arachnid
Armor: Enigma is very handy to keep the army together and for telestomping.
Gloves: Frosties or Trangs. Frosties for mana and Trangs for faster cast/2 curses
Boots: marrowwalks

There are some good guides to look at such as nightfish's fishymancer you should look at. ppl get frustrated with others asking questions that have already been answered so alway check there first.

EDIT: someone beat me to it, but i have a similar lvl 85 nec and he does just as good but he doesnt have beast and infinity.

i'm also thinknig doing a summoner but i think that you only kill boss better with infinity because infinity gives CB to merc, however i still dont see why you kill better with infinity since your main power source should be your skellies and with pride the dmg would be better.



 
skeletons ARE your power source, but they arent the biggest killers for summon necors. Corpse Explosion will clear entire rooms, all you have your skellis for are bosses, and to get that first kill to start chain reaction and as a meat sheild
 
This is my setup that I use which I also posted in another thread. It is a very effective build but it is also very expensive.

Gear
Shako - Um'ed or Ral'ed
Arm of King Leoric (Summon with this)
Beast Zerker Axe (Switch to this after summoning)
BP Enigma (this allows me to wear everything with zero STR)
Arachnids
35% Spirit Monarch (Good resists, 35% FCR to hit 75 fcr breakpoint)
Trang Gloves (+2 curses, cold resist, and fcr to make Tele/CE casting faster)
+2 Marrowwalks
Mara's
2x SOJ
20 Stat Torch/Anni
9x Summon GCs (enough +6 str GCs to wear spirit monarch, then rest should be lifers)
8x 5% Res SCs, preferable with vita mod if you can afford them

Switch: CTA/Ethereal Spirit Monarch (You will need an eth Spirit monarch as the STR requirement is 10 lower)

The 35% spirit + Trang + Arachs allows me to hit the 75% FCR Breakpoint, which makes teleing faster and allows you to cast CE faster.

Merc wears:
Choose an Act 2 NM Might Merc
Ethereal Pride (lvl 20 Concentration helps minions a lot)
Ethereal Andariel's Visage (20 IAS, 10LL, great defense. Everything you want in a merc helm - Um it for resistances)
Ethereal Bramble (Thorns Aura for minions, 30 Fire resistances to make up for negative fire resistance from Andys, and ups your max poision resistance)


My Skill tree Looks like this:
20 corpse explosion
20 raise skeleton
20 skeleton mastery
20 raise skeletal mage
1 revive
1 summon resist
1 in all golems except Fire
1 in all curses except the 3 on the left hand side
1 in prereqs
Rest of the points I put into Golem Mastery

Stat Point allocation
STR - 0 base (With BP nigma and Anni/Torch, you wont need any STR)
DEX - 0 base (you dont need max block, u wont get hit much anyways and its difficult to get unless u wear Homonculus)
VIT - Everything here
ENERGY - 0 base

I can uber with this necro, and Hell act 5 monsters with 8 players in it is a piece of cake. With this setup, your minions have Fanatacism (beast), Concentration (pride), Thorns (bramble), and Might (act2 nm merc) which makes them killing machines... My necro can kill as good as any char with the setup im using.
 
Alright, here's optimal gear for the summoning necro,

Helm: Um'ed Shako
Amulet: Maras
Shield: Homunculus (or +3 Boneflame if you already have stacked resists)
Shield 2: Lidless (spirit isnt worth the extra strength)
Weapon 1: Hoto
Weapon 2 (Switch): CTA Flail/Crystal Sword
Armor: Dusk Enigma
Belt: Arach
Rings: Sojs/Bks (preference, I personally like one of each)
Boots: Treks (marrowwalks only adds about 50 extra damage, and for me that just isnt enough to throw in extra strength for, besides, we all know thatt 99% of D2 is about style)
Gloves: Magefists (Resists can be gotten from other means, and the 25% mana regen and +1 Fire for CE is too good to pass up)

Inventory
Necro Torch
Anni
7x Summon Skillers (with either life or fhr as 2nd mod)
Resist scs/fhr scs/lifer scs (whichever you need/prefer more, I personally went with the lifer and fhr scs)

Merc
Weapon: Eth CA Infinity
Armor: Sup Elite Armor CoH
Helm: Guillaimes Face (the 35% cb gives you a total of 75% on your merc, making him unbeatable, but hold a kiras in stash for uber meph's conviction, which will make your merc take a beating)

This is pretty much it, and personally
Infinty >>>>>>>> Pride, as whatever ppl say, they are not killing at full speed unless they are spamming CE everywhere, and Infinity not only gives your merc great damage (pride doesnt have any on-wep ed%) but it also greatly boosts your CE damage, meaning that with monsters amp'ed and conviction'ed, they will be taking 115-192% (hurried math, may be a bit off) of the corpses damage, compared to the 90-150% with only amp on, in hell, with corpses with massive hp, that can turn into thousands of damage difference, and with conviction + amp, there is NO chance that the enemy can survive your CE unless they heavily fire and phy resistant, somethin that cant be said about no conviction.

As a summoner, your skeles are one thing and one thing only, MEAT SHIELDS, they protect your merc and yourself (the real dmg dealers) from being killed, and the main strong points of the summoner is to let their 4-5k avg dmg merc grab a kill, and then they CE the corpse, killing EVERY monster on the screen, in ONE cast, something that will take your skeles about 3-5 seconds to do.
 
How come you complain about str on marrow and spirit? If you're wearing a dusk enigma wouldn't you need atleast 77 str? Then say you were at lvl 84 thats 63 str from enigma taking you up to 140 which is more then enough for marrows. Plus the marrows thmselves would then bring you up enoug hto wear a spirit if you got a pair good enough. Even if you're wearing good treks thats only a point or two you'd have to spend to make 156str.

firegolem is worth 1 pt. If you're low on chips you can just run around with him on act1 normal and everything dies without even doing anything. Run and collect chips, fun fun. Personally I would recommend at least 5 hard points in Dim Vision too, for stopping ranged stuff more efficiently. :)

I don't think so; while it might be true that your mercenary dishes out enormous damage, the damage that skellies do is NOT to be neglected, especially if you have a decent ammount of + skills. This is even more true if you have a source of teleport. And there's the Act bosses and (mini) Ubers as well, where your merc typically is no match for. Chaos Sanctuary, anyone?

Also, you usually need TWO casts of CE to kill everything and more against PI/FI's. Probably different with an Infinity, though.
