I recently had to buy a new monitor and got a high res wide screen, but it screws up Diablo II bad. I realize that there might have already been a thread about this, but I could not find it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Your monitor itself should have a "preserve aspect ratio" setting or something like that. You have to activate it while the game is running. It will lead to black borders to the left and right, of course.
Unfortunately that is not a option available in the control panel of the graphics card or monitor. Nvidia no longer supports this card (which is only 3 years old) It looks more and more like I will have to take this monitor back and find a normal monitor somewhere.
Not there either. There is only an auto adjust which makes sure the image fits to the whole screen. Nothing available in any of the monitor settings that allows for aspect ratio, or scaling.
Hmm, then I'm out of clues... except one: If you still use an analog cable, replace it with a DVI or HDMI cable, maybe that's an issue. It will also improve the image quality.
You are talking to someone who is not quite computer illiterate but close. I have no idea what kind of cables you are talking about and where they are and what they do.
I think it is just going to be easier to find and buy a real normal ratio monitor than go with an "upgrade" that actually screws everything up rather than improve it.
I had the same 'problem' as you, but I just decided to play with the distorted screen. After a while you hardly notice any widening effect. Much less hassle to just get used to it than to buy a new monitor.
