2013 Summer MFO Sign-Up and Running Thread

You weren't kidding about posting it on the hour! Congrats to all the winners, especially Nagisa for crazy results - winning two categories. And particular congrats to the Pindle runners, only two of you but you both put in a lot of work.

I somewhat enjoyed my first MFO, did 1000 runs in AT with my Bliz sorc, and found some good stuff I needed (Kira's, Sur to complete Enigma). But it was mostly really boring. Going back to untwinked play for a while I think!

Congrats to the winners, maybe I will spend the next couple months building and practicing for the winter round. I've never been in the Olympics, but maybe it's something I should try. Congratulations again everyone!

Congratz everyone! I'm pretty surprised at third, but hey I can't complain

Besides that, I'm actually pretty disappointed. While my results are decent, my top five is about all I have to show for rare items. I found a steel pillar, earth shifter, and a couple other decent point sets, but that's really it. I really wanted to find CoA, Griffon's, and the Grandfather, and found none of them. I did just over 1400 total runs. However, what shocked me more than anything is that my highest rune was Io. I think Fabian should check the odds of that, because I'm pretty sure that's unheard of

On topic, I'm interested in seeing readouts of any Griffon's please

I wasn't really feeling it from the start. I tried half heartedly for the first two days, but after that I probably didn't run much more than an hour on any individual day. In total I did ~23 hours and found 11 haul pic items, including two very disappointing Templar's Might.

I must shamefully admit a score blunder on my part, doesn't change the points however.

My 'Griffon's Eye' should read Shadow Dancer...yes yes 100% my fault, copy and paste fail! (but in fairness they are next to each other in the scoring list)

While I did find a Griffon's Eye, it was well before the MFO

So I leveled my nec 96->97 this MFO. It went pretty smoothly except one death with picked body so everything fine. I also have ancients quest with him so 98 is option (that will never happen anyway). About 1600 runs in and pretty nice drops. Runes were pretty horrible for p7 nec runs. Only Jah Ohm Gul Gul is pretty depressing, but my sorc managed to save it with another Jah. Roughly 35 hours and 70 sec runs (very rough estimate).

After nec hit 97 early in day 6 I switched to AT sorc, got couple more qualifiers, Jah and gg. Sorc got to ~58% XP on 96->97 playing p1 AT, but I'm pretty sure I had good chunk of XP from before. No deaths, 28 hours total and ~35 sec/run. very happy with my performance with sorc this MFO cause I managed to get crazy good run times comparing to last MFOs. From 55 to 35 in couple years on same map just proves it's doable.

That's about it. I won't be taking anything from anyone. Gratz Nagi to his sicko performance and winning entire MFO. ggwp and enjoy your punishment.

Huge congratz Nagisa! It's official, you are most OP player here on SPF. Congratz on Tyrael.
Nulio is last, wohohooo. Man, I expected more from you, not last place!

I went into this MFO with low inspiration. My initial plan was to play 25-30 hours, but that plan changed throughout MFO. First two days I didn't run, started at third day with 10 hours of playing with my Pit necro. Next two days played an "easy" 5 hours a day. 20 hours done at day 5, and my score was around 50. Okay, I thought I might get something in next 10 hours to have at least some score. At this point pit necro was very very boring to play, literally played it like a robot, super easy etc.
Switched to Pitbarb and continued my running. Man, that was refreshing. Pitbarb much more skill intensive to play, that I liked a lot. At beginning my running times were 70-ish second what was kinda slow, but I improved very fast. Also respeced him and became even faster. Continued playing 6 hours a day for the next two days. 32 hours in and minor 0.3 score improvement. I was very unhappy. 52 score after 32 hours. Nothing, I must continue I thought. Before 35.th hour, Darkforce spawn dropped. I was happy, finally 60+ score. Last 3 days my inspiration was very low, I forced myself to play at least 4 hours a day or close to it. Had no improvements in last 10 hours of MFO that were painful to play. I suppose I should be happy that at least one good scorer dropped, it could be 52 score at the end lol.

Total time played is 45 hours through 8 days which makes 5.6 hours a day (yes, this MFO I wasn't really inspired, I know this looks much for someone uninspired to play lol). 20 hours played with pitnecro and 25 hours with pitbarb. Way more than I planned. But what can I say, nothing good dropped so I should continue playing to have at least 60+ score. Luckily, that happened, so I as well continued since I liked playing with my pitbarb and hoped to get something more too.

Total runs done are 900 with necro and cca 1500 with pitbarb, so 2400 total.

Pitnecro: Map with 6.5 bosspacks and great shape where I kill many creeps. Played on p7. Leveled him for 93.x to 95.5. No deaths.

PitBarb: Map with 7.3 bosspacks. Didn't use rune counter for him since it's distraction for me, I rather used clock on mobile to have playing time. Also did some tests on average running times to know how to estimate my number of runs done.
X runs sample, 62.6 sec average run. Before respec. Then after respec:
121 runs sample, 59.8 sec average run.
40 runs sample, 58.8 sec average run.
210 runs sample, 60.2 sec average run.
So, if I take 60 sec, it's cca 1500 runs done. I did running in 30 minutes to 45 minutes intervals mostly so it wasn't hard to maintain this average. Played on p1, leveled him from 90 to 91.6. Died once with him to ugly triple archer packs.

In a way I did enjoy this MFO, especially to learn to play with pitbarb. On the other way, I didn't enjoy cause nothing dropped till 35-th hour and was feeling kinda down cause of it and lost almost any inspiration I had till then. Got boost in inspiration from Darkforce drop, but was forcing myself to play till newly planned 45 hours mark. All in all, not that bad MFO.

Thanks everyone. Most of my time was in Baal, so naturally very little good stuff actually dropped. frozzzen is there for your epic haul pic desiring needs though.

For any interested parties, here is my run counter. WSK/Baal with K/T assassin, /p1 AT with Blizzard sorceress, and /p7 RoF/CS with Blizzard/Lightning sorceress respectively.

My original goal was just to grind some experience while hoping for a Cham rune for my runner's hat along the way. I would play a few hours of Baal, then swap to AT or CS for a little excitement. Templar's dropped from AT as my first TC87, which pretty much convinced me at the time that this MFO was a lost cause from an area running perspective. Ghostflame and Darkforce coming relatively early on from Baal inspired me to run him a bit harder as well, especially since I had never previously won an MFO category.

The problem was just that the drops weren't coming at all. I knew he would be stingy, but after catching some luck in my first ~ 300 runs, Baal refused to drop anything of even moderate worth over the next ~ 500 runs. Honestly, I probably would've stopped running entirely if (1) I wasn't so sure that ziambe was pulling ~ 1000 runs to reach level 99, (2) frozzzen hadn't made a bet with me regarding each of us reaching certain scoring plateaus, and (3) IRC crew didn't provide much needed entertainment, so many thanks to them. The tide eventually turned on the night of day 6 after nearly 800 runs and 2 deaths, as the first wave coughed up my second Templar's, causing mixed feelings of joy and rage.

By the time day 7 arrived, a third Sacred Armor appeared. This one probably made me rage the most of the three, despite being completely awesome and putting me at lifetime grail-1, if only because there were only 4 days left to surround it appropriately while still putting up a decent enough Baal score. I turned my attention purely to AT for a bit, resulting in the Death's Web. This completed my lifetime grail, and it was enough to make me head back for more Baal running, despite still having no other 16+ pointers.

The final few days unfortunately turned up very little in terms of items. It was actually another 400-500 Baal runs before M'avina's came at around 7 PM on the last Sunday, vaulting me from around 395 to 415 and spelling a certain teammate's demise. :badteeth: Nothing more came from areas thereafter, and my score was regrettably stuck with a few 10.7 items on the back end. As I had mentioned to Fabian, I was kind of hoping someone else would win with an epic and more deserving haul, but it sadly never came to be. However, I'm obviously still very happy with the result.

I will be stealing (personalized?) M'avina's Caster from frozzzen for sure. Kind of debating Griffon's from Gripphon, but Daz almost certainly needs it more than I do. Might pass on it depending whether others have decent rolls.
