MERC question

I'm level 34 and I hired a NM Offensive (might, no?) merc. He is level 19. I am playing in Normal right now. He has 40 health and from all I can tell I dont receive the might aura. My main concern is his health. My friends merc who is level 18 has ~270 health. I guess I just want to understand the mechanic behind this... because I'm confused. I rushed to get this merc as early as possible so I could level him manually and make him strong but now I feel boned.

EDIT: Also, he hasn't increased health when he levels.

Mercs are quirky like that. They turn on their auras usually in combat but it's not automatic every time, especially when said merc is at a lower level.

I suggest going somewhere where the monsters are at or just below his level and letting your merc do the killing.

Another question, did you equip your merc with weapon armor and helm yet? His gear has an effect on his stats.

Mercs from higher difficulties have very little life at low levels and those from act 2 might not even have their aura then. At L19 you usually aren't in nightmare act 2, L35 would be the usual level when questing yourself. I suggest to get the offensive act 2 merc from normal mode until L30 or so.

You don't have ti level your merc, just hire a new one when is too far behind your character. Leveling them provides no benefit, that's just a myth.
