Max block huge dex investment?

I saw that total block formula but couldnt find any real numbers so i'd just like to confirm...to get max block with a monarch shield at lvl 90 i would need 195 in dex?

For pvp, max block > pumping vit ???

thanks!

for PvP max block is nice to have. its effectivly 75% PDR before ur actual PDR is taken into account. otherwords stopping 75% of all melee hits or arrow/jav hits. i would say very handy :D

for PvM there is no debate...max block is needed. i tried a no block necro and even teleporting to safty spear cats rip u up, as do archers in the Pit and other areas. max block will save ur life many many times over

max it with a good shield though

Not sure how you did the calculation, but Monarch has 42% blocking on necro, so you'll need 337 dex to get 75% blocking at lvl90.

Heres a debate...IMHO, max block is the biggest waste of stat points ever invented on a summoner. I have tried both methods, and frankly, I found that the massive life boost from having many many more points into vit much more important than stopping a few cats. Remember that the most damaging monsters in the game do ELEMENTAL UNBLOCKABLE DAMAGE  , so against many monsters, having block is useless, not to mention if you ever decide to run away from that 10,000 strong spear cat crowd, your blocking is reduced to 1/3, and you'll get ripped apart anyway. Besides, you should never be in a position as a summoner where you are away from the cats, play offensively and tele in there, giving your army free hits, CE once or twice, and there dead. The only time that max block would be useful is when you tele in fanatic frenzytaurs, but in that case, you will never be able to pack enough fbr, along with enough fhr, fcr, and +skills to make a necro effective, so you'll remain in block animation taking 1/4 hits till you die, whereas w/o block, you can just pack on the 5fhr% scs, giving yourself plenty of time to tele away during the hits.

I would say the other way around, max block is necessary for a necro in PVP, as players will do insane damage that must be stopped, whereas I can tank spear cats indefinately, maybe throw a pot to my merc, drink one myself, go take a nap, as long as you have your army and are somewhat careful to have good vit, you should be fine  .

And max block with a regular monarch is more like what kuafu stated....somewhere in the 300s, not nearly worth it, I only play max block on PVP chars and smiters...as they already max HS, so it would be a waste. :undecided:

i would recommend max block if you have a maxblock viable shield (homo, storm, trang's)
blocking is a GOOD thing on a nec because he gets only +2 life per point of vita, whch means you're losing about 250 life total but in turn you get 75% blocking wich is incredibly handy in many situations (such as exploding dolls and archers in the pit)

ofc it depends on what type of nec you play, if you go nova or bone skills then block is good if you go max summon then you probably don't need it

to whoever said you get torn up in pvm without max block you are very very wrong. my necro runs hell baal and pits and whatever I want I have 168 unused stat points because I wasnt sure if I wanted max block or more life and I seem to almost never get hit but for pvp im sure max block is much needed

haha i should have been more specific when i said monarch...i really meant stormshield  which i'll eventually ber later on.

If you're a pnb nec, yes.

Unless your gear is **** or you suck at building chars you can till have 3.1k + life with max block, which isn't horrible

How do you get so high? My pvm 89 Necro only has 900 HP (w/o BO and Oaksage) and max block but I may have overinvested in str.

I would have to agree with bogie in saying that max block is a waste of stat points. I run pits with a max vit poisonmancer, and with good teleporting...granted you can afford an enigma, you very rarely get hit by anything. And when you do, bone shield is there for ya.
