Guardian #34 - Durkon, the FoHdin
Hey folks, long time no see. How's it going? This afternoon I decided to fire up D2 after about 9 months or so and take my FoHdin through Hell. Things went as they should and Durkon is now enjoying some brews at the local tavern. Here's some stats and stuff on a mostly boring character which I will likely never play again.
Guardian Durkon
Level: 78
Str: ~110
Dex: ~120
Vit: ~260
En: ~T_T
Life: ~1100
Mana: Who cares?
FoH Damage: ~4000 for lightning, ~3000 Holy Bolt
Holy Bolt Damage: 5500-6000
Conviction: -100% Resistances
Gear:
HotO Flail / Spirit Pally Shield
Viper Magi (PRuby)
Shako (PRuby)
Nightsmoke
Bloodfist
Nat's Soul
SoJ x 2
Mara's Ammy
4 x Combat Skiller
Redemption Scepter on switch
Mercenary equipped with Eth Obedience Thresher, 3 x 15% IAS Black Hades, Delirium Crown. Yes, I forgot I had not one, but TWO fortitude armours. Shame on me.
Skillwise he's simple. Max FoH and Synergies. And ofc the obligatory point in Holy Shield.
Random Facts:
Ok, what's to tell? Basically FoH is not a PvM skill for the hasty. The 1s casting timer is really needed to keep it from being overpowered. It's almost as good as synergised firebolt, for crying out loud... No, not quite that bad. It actually works okay, especially in hardcore.
The fact that there's a timer on FoH gives you spare time after each attack which lets you reposition your char, which makes for an extremely safe - if tedious - gaming experience. This char is one of the few who had a grand total of zero NDEs. Smooth crusing all the way. Cruising, as in afrika cruising towards Europe. Or snails crusing up a steep hill.
For a Paladin, Durkon was alright, I guess, especially after not having played for ages, I'm happy that he didn't die. Best finds were rockstopper and kelpiesnare so he's not exactly a luck duck.
In Hell my main strategy was to skip LIs or leave them to my merc if they needed to die. Delirium kept us safe. Crowd control is still win. Undead LIs were owned by Holy Bolt. GG no re gloams.
I was a bit worried about the ancients which is why I swapped in my 84-991 Obedience Stick of Smackdown. And that turned out to be pretty smart since one dude did indeed spawn LI. The other two were ok, the leaper being CI and the Axeman being Spectral. Leapfrog went down first and to nothing but FoHs. Next up was the Axer who took a few hits from the merc but was mostly a FoH job. The whirler was hard. Holy Freeze aura and LI. I couldn't touch him at all (yes, I forgot a CB weapon for my char to smite with, I'm rusty). Mercdude was kinda slow due to HF so it took him a while. Eventually he wore down the barbarian grandpa, though and from there it was smooth sailing.
So, what's my overall verdict on FoH? Viable? Fo sho. Fun? ... *crickets chirping, tumble weed rolling* ... Guess again. One thing I can see him excell at is running Pindle. But that's about it. Sadly there is basically nothing special about this one, except that the skill is underused. No smart item choices, no fancy stuff. T_T
Anyway, that's a wrap for Guardian 34. (In case you have no idea who I am and what crazy stuff I waste my life on, I started playing hardcore a few years back with the goal of having 7 guardians per class with individual builds where possible for a grand total of 49 heros.)
I can't quite decide what to play next. Mostly the chars that are left are kinda boring. To be quite honest I lost track of what I have already done to some extent so I need to reorganise alll this stuff. Maybe I'll wrap it up nicely if I ever finish it with a few choice words for each build. Sort of like a minicompendium of stuff you can take through hell, in an effort to promote diversity.
Well, thanks for reading, catch you next guardian, guys.
