matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

In case you missed it, see this thread by Ceramic Weasel for the scoop on blade fury. Short Version: max the skill (103-105 base damage at slvl 20), and get as much off-weapon ED and deadly strike as possible. ‘Fortitude’ is the single key item (conveniently, I don’t have one). Damage from claw weapons can be buffed somewhat by CM, but the AR bonus doesn’t apply to blade fury.

notes:
The %ED to demons on LoH was very obvious while playing through the game. The difficulty seemed to be inversely proportional to the number of demons. Act 2 was a terrible slog. A pair of gravepalm gloves would have made it much more tolerable, I think, but mine are ethereal, and I never put them on. Overall she was highly dependent on her merc. Without decrepify from reaper’s toll and the blessed aim aura, she was a slow killer. Safe though. The only real problems she faced were hard-hitting monsters that killed the somewhat-underleveled merc. A cursed Lister was a bit of a problem.

Her kill speed in general was pretty good (/p1 the whole way through hell), I thought, but my standards are relatively low. Death sentry does a lot of the killing during normal questing, of course. It should be noted that, with the exception of Baal, the act bosses all died very fast (silly little demons :p). Once separated, the hell ancients were also stupidly easy.

I opted for SW over SM mostly to have some control of the skills the shadow used. Overall, I was happy. She dropped DS pretty regularly, which was nice. She never used mind blast when I didn’t want her to. The SW could even be induced to buff with fade if I had the skill selected when approaching a fight. The shadow doesn’t use BF though, so I guess she was attacking with ‘normal attack’ the whole time. She was a good meat shield, though it took a large investment of skill points.

finds:
shadow skiller of balance
cold skiller

Anya’a quest reward: :surprise:

Level 1 Enchant (11/11 Charges)

HF: hel/pul

future plans:
Pit runner. Wearing stealskull, war travelers, goldwrap, ‘rhyme,’ dual nagelrings, I have to say she isn’t bad. Though I haven’t run the pit before, I think she does ok, even though with a high MF setup it takes her 2-3 hits to kill even the regualr dark stalkers, her overall ability to clear a room is pretty good. Decrep + static field + CE will do that. ;) She can clear “most of” the pit within one cycle of fade (not including running/muling time though), so less than 2 minutes. A highlord’s ammy would, I think, be a nice addition to her MF gear but sadly I don’t have one.

Somebody with fort and a nice eth ‘death’ should give this build a try...

Thanks for reading. :)

Nice one! I've been thinking about making one of these. What were the most dangerous areas for you? How much did you die?

Thanks. :)

To answer your second question first, well, I did die a few times. I generally don't keep track. There's a reason I play SC. Yeah, there's a reason. I think someone with more patience could play this character very safely, though, considering that blade fury's attack speed is fixed, there's no reason not to use fade all the time.

The worst area was probably the throne room, just because the baddies there could kill my merc and shadow pretty easily. Also the CS wasn't fun as the merc kept dying to IM. :( Without the merc, it was slow going. Physical immunes were pretty annoying as venom is nerfed (evidently it only does 3/4 damage with BF).

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

Always nice to see new assassins. Use your normal attack to determine your attack rating , it's the same as your bf ar.

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

Nice done. Have you calculated your real damage? I'm interested in the number.

And it is surprise to see something useful from Anya, have your tried that claw with BF?

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

Thanks for the replies.

@Tanksaabas: I'll edit in her AR for normal attack. It's 1710 w/o BA (yikes!) and 7353 with.

@DeathMaster: I don't know exactly how to calculate it.. plus I'm kind of lazy in that regard. :p but if it helps she has +28 max damage from charms, none from other gear. I did try the claw, and it does quite well, the fleeing monsters mean an extra margin of safety for a ranged char. The only complaint I had was the cold damage.. shatters too many corpses. Still, some skill points in CM could make that thing really sing...

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

Masterfully done hero! I've always liked that skill (even moreso now after that mechanics thread was posted), and good luck with her career as a Pit-runner.

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

I am in the process of leveling one of these myself, and it looks awesome:) I was planning to use Duress, but the Nat`s armor is probably better. Thanks a lot for that idea, I will steal it and claim it as my own:)

Re: matriarch Leona, blade fury assassin

Gratz on the Mat.

Does pierce work with BF? I can't remember if it was in the guide or not.

If it does have you thought about throwing the belt Razortail on for some extra carnage?

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Yeah, I had this thought. I liked this thought very much. But, sadly, when I put on razortail, the blades didn't seem to do any piercing. :(
