Map Hack

Yeah, I figured you meant the PWNTED in a fun, sword fighty sort of way, but it could really, really be misconstrued as some egomaniacal power tripping sort of thing. That guy was clearly not deserving of an account here, I'm just worried that if mods start banning on guesswork things could get very ugly around here.

Admitting to using maphack has always been somewhat taboo on this site, though many people use it. Frankly, given partially to the fact that I don't play anymore and that I never really cared anyway, I don't care if people use maphack. It's fun to argue about however.

Returning to the meaningless point I was half-heartedly trying to make, it would be impossible to determine which runes and items are either duped or obtained with the aid of third party programs, so in the interest of maintaining a trading community that has any members at all, they adopt the 'why try' policy. Blizzard doesn't try, and they take an even more apathetic approach by not even bothering to ban most of the people who publically admit to using third party software.

Back in the 1.09 days and before there was much more support on the pro-MH side. Debates were actually 2-sided in a signifigant way, not just one guy being beat down by all the legit people. In fact sometimes the super-anti-hacks people like Apoc were even out numbered in these silly debates. I guess as interest in this game has dropped off, only the more legit among us stuck around. And people like me who don't even play but for some reason post.

I still fling dung at these threads though, as I always have.

Though Blizzard has given up on policing D2 in favor of their games that require subscriptions, I think that it is very noteworthy that this site still actively enforces no cheating rules, even though it may be difficult to do so.

This shows that there are enough individuals with a good moral sense out there to ignore those who choose to ruin this fantastic game for themselves and others, and plod on in their quest to have fun with the game as it was meant to be.

Just because it has been left to each bnet participant to use hack programs as they wish, doesn't mean that we here on rpgforums have to give in to this degradative allowance just because we can; its like saying "go on and commit adultery; there's no law saying you can't" and yet so many people in society don't hold these same values.

It all comes down to personal choice; go ahead and use mh, cheats, and scamming software- just don't participate in the forums of this website if you do

i am positive that the reason the guy was banned had nothing at all to do with maphack....he publically offered a hack in a diablo trivia thread i started....he even posted his email
from what i have seen lately you don't have to worry to much about the mods banning without justification...if anything i think they may be too lenient at times

There's a difference between justification and evidence. It is justifable to ban for trading and using maphack, but if there is very little evidence to suggest guilt and a ban still occurs, that is worrisome. That said, I haven't really been around much lately to tell if this is happening or not.

Csi

With all these talks about proofs of game abuse and legit use, maybe its time for everyone, including Aragorn the Mod, to hire a lawyer to defend his/her innocence.

Just kidding.

Relax, D2 it just a game and this forum is just a virtual chi-chat exchange.

I'm fully on Aragorn's side. This isn't a courtroom. We all are guests here and if the guests do things the hosts don't like, they might get thrown out. There is freedom of speech, but the hosts don't have to provide a platform for any opinion. It's most probably the same at home with guests saying things that might offend the host.

I must say that this point is so very true, and you can see it by the increase in maturity in D2. I dont know about you guys, but one of the reasons i stopped playing for a while (a couple of different times) in the past was because of the annoying, immature little kids that clearly do nothing for the enjoyment of an online game. Almost everyone ive traded with, everyone ive talked to on the forums, and most everyone i run into in game exhibit much more maturity than the majority of the players back in 1.09 and 1.08 days. This makes me happy, and i can finally enjoy interacting with people on bnet. (most of the time). Kudos to all of you that realize this is just a game, being rich isn't the most important thing in the world, and being overall mature about all situations and interactions in D2 is the right way to spread enjoyment to everyone. I sure like playing D2 a lot more now than i did in the past.
