Low level dueling - Kicker.

Low level dueling - Kicker.

I threw up a thread in Assassin forum but it's not gettin much action there, and i know people here do some lld, so i thought i'd ask some of you.

I'm gonna take a step into the realm of pk'ing and im thinkin bout goin along the lines of a kicker. Im making it low level too, cause im sick of making char's and dying at like lvl 79 and 80 (damn you gloams, damn you to hell)

Now im new to this whole scene, and the guides i've read to kickers have all been high level guides, and frankly, they confuse the hell out of me.

Im just interested to hear some info on kickers, and some basic guidelines on gear, stats, and skill placements to get me started, before i start tweaking to my own satisfactions.

I plan on ruining lots of people's days very soon ;p

edit:

well.. im stupid.

Go ahead and discuss favorite pk moments or whatever you want to discuss.

The Kicksin

Get to 70 str, stick all your points into Dragon Talon, get some 10-20 kicking boots (sigons), get full life gear and start kicking. Maybe a point or 2 into BoS for faster run and more kicking speed. This is even cheaper than the paladin. It doesn’t take much to build them, you won’t get that many ears, but with a -10 weapon in the hand the kick is really fast. The expensive variant of this build focusses around +Str armor, helmet, an Umbral Disk, Skewer of Krinitz, Bloodfist, Sigons Boots, Death’s sash, Angelic rings+ammy and all +life charms. Another option is to go full out on +elemental damage charms and a 6 socket topaz weapon as elemental damage is carried over when kicking. With 6-socket topaz weapon you effectively add 1-22 lighting damage in PvP per hit.

This is sound advice but if you don't mind going a bit higher to lvl 25 you can become much more effective. The main reason for this is that at lvl 25 you can wear War Boots which are the best exceptional Boots for a kicker also lvl 24 opens up Tele Kick (dragon flight) which is extremely useful. Me and a few friends did this build last ladder and found it highly effective. You won't bag as many ears as a well built charger but you will beat chargers in a duel.

This is the build:

3 x P Ruby Helm, 4 x P Ruby Armor (preferably Embossed plate as it's circa 300def, 125 Str req which is the same req on War Boots)

Sigons Shield (Good block, 1 to all skills)

Strength Runeword (Amn + Tir) in Blade Talons (fastest weapon)

Deaths Sash, Bloodfists, Angelics, and any War Boots preferably with stats or run/walk, fire res is handy against chanted ppl.

On switch preferably 2 x 1 to Asn Claws for buffing BoS.

Skills iirc = 6 on BoS (+1 on Sigs meets a bp when combined with Blade talons)

As many on Talon until u reach 4 kicks (don't forget about the +1 on sigs)

1 on Flight

1 on Shadow Warrior for Confusing opponents / taking hits

If you can go to NM and grab a might merc for slightly added kick dmg and added meat shield confusion for your foes.

Strategy:

TeleKick right on top of them followed up by a swift succession of talons and they shd die or chicken exit. Chicken is ur worst enemy with this build but if they set it too low u can still get them due to the speed of the kicks. Also when u tele on top of them it's very hard for them to name lock you with your merc / Warrior by your side.

Good Luck and post any memorable kills :) btw turn off maphack before posting screenies j/k

A lot on a kicker depends on the exact level you are going for. If you are going 25 or higher go dual claw and put on a pair of Strength bladetalons (for both the + to strength and the crushing blow. If you get into the level range of ik boots then put on ik boots and belt for nice damage and other bonuses. Plus at that level range you can toss on orphans hat for more crushing blow (note that for kicking deadly strike does not matter.).

The other reason for going double claw is the way claw block works. It is at full effectiveness even when you are running and can block spells :).

If you are making a kicker with a shield then use a bone- or grim shield of deflection which has a much faster blocking then sigons and with two socketed ELDs it will take less dex to achieve max block.

Mods like CB and OW only come from the "active" claw which is the last claw you equipped normally. If you weapon switch or take a wp though, it defaults to the left (your assassin's right, left on screen) claw as your active. Two strength claws will not give you 50% crushing blow (25% from each), just 25%. You will still get the stat bonuses (+20 str, +10 vit) from the second Strength but I feel there are better choices.

Because you will most likely be facing a caster when you are using your dual claws, I'd suggest +skills Blade Talons (specifically Shadow Discpline tabs and/or weapon block if thats possible) to increase your chance to block. The other thing to consider is socketing the offhand claw with res jewels or stat jewels. The only things that can be gotten from the offhand claw are stats, res, and +skills.

Two other things of note.

- When dual weilding, your kick speed is obtained from an average of the speeds of your two claws so make sure both claws are fast enough to hit that ias breakpoint. I had to shael the rare Claw I had because it wasn't as fast as a Blade Talon.

- Remember not to use dual claws against melee. At best, you can expect around 45-50% block with Weapon block which is vastly weaker than the 75% block you should have from a shield setup.

Things to also keep in mind :

Kickers lose to conc barbs. Atleast in my experience.

Even in their 30's I've never seen one go toe to toe with a good druid of the same level....It's much more of a budget build than a serious dueler, good to wet your feet with tho.

I have this saved on my desktop. Its the newest guide i have.

Level 25-27 kicksin:
Skills:
Max Dragon talon
1 point in dragon flight (extra points go here)
4 in burst of speed (will be 6 with items, giving 39% ias)
1 in prereq. to these skills.

gear:
3 perfect rubied
4 perfect rubied armor OR artisans armor of life with 3x p rubies. (i use 1x perf amythiest 3x perf ruby because i like the cololr purple)
Angelics amulet and 2 rings
Bloodfists gloves
deaths belt
Sigons tower shield with "eld" rune in it
"strength" runeworded Blade talon, kris or schimitar (it must be -20 attack speed for the right ias breakpoint to be met) I suggest 2 socket blade talon (runeword is Amn-tir)
Two +1 assasin skills claws on switch (for casting burst of speed)
Rare/magical War boots. They must be war boots for maximum damage. You can get a good 20%faster run, +stats rare pair or just grab some magical crap ones.
Charms:15 life smalls, +5 str/dex larges and a few elemental (cold damage) to suit your needs. Max damage charms and jewels dont work with this build.

Keep in mind that Max damage jewels and charms dont affect kick damage, so be happy you dont have to gather tons of expensive jewels/charms. Elemental damage (from charms) will affect kick damage but it will not show up on listed damage. THis can be verified by kicking things and the elemental attack will show up. Enhanced damage jewels do work with this build, but they add very little damage. I find that if you want a damage boost, Switch from a 3 p rubied helm to a 3 P amythiested helm, this will add about 60 to max damage.

Stats with this build should be....
125 strengh with all gear on (just enough for boots)
Enough dex for max block (75%)
ALL vitality, put the remainging points in here
None energy.

A few tips when dueling:
Before a duel, switch to the +1 assasin skill claws and cast (level 7) burst of speed. Switch back to "strength" weapon and sigons shield.

Chargers are easy to kill. There are a few ways of really nailing them. I suggest saving your dragon flight (teleport kick) for the end of the duel, to surprise them. You can wait for them in a corner, when they charge you, block them and Dragon talon them. They should either die, exit, or run away. If they run away, Dragon flight right on top of them then dragon talon as fast as you can. That should definately finish em off.

If you know your opponent uses chicken (Exits instantly when you kick them) just forget it. If you really hate them, get your friend to enchant you, then kill em in 1 hit.

When dueling other kickers, its important to try to dragon talon them at all times. Be the first to attack and be aggressive.

level 30-50 sorcs are very easy to kill, unless they are especially made for dueling. Keep a 3 perfect diamonded shield in your stash to give you max resists against these ladies. They usually have low life and will die if you get a lucky hit.

A good idea is to get a Pimp merc. Act 2 might mercs or A5 barb mercs are my favorite. Give him a high damage ethereal weapon. Honor runeword is level 27 and has amazing mods.

have fun killing everyone with a dirt cheap build

*note*

although +maxes don't work, % ED jewels do. But its only really effective at lower level kickers (sub 15) as 10 Str gives better damage than say 20% ED (Pammy vs 20% ED jool). This has to do with the nature of the kicking formulae and its damage. Strength is calculated in twice and yields more damage than % ED, which is counted like skill ED or something. odd, but proven by the sin forum, and after some calcs I agreed with them

Tecira describes a build known as the "mage killer".

For level 18 I suggest a 6 sock -10 weapon with 6 prubies for 25-30 added PVP dam if ya wanna hit people.

Sorry you have trouble with a good fair PvM battle, you might improve your builds to succeed against Gloams better they never give me issues.

So becasue you cant when a fair PvM fight you are going to make a PK and go look for a one sided fight? Sure is a testimate to your ability.

Is the stick too far up your *** to pull out stinger?

to everyone else:

Thanks for the advice and tips, it's much appreciated.

This kids, is what we call a Zealot. Have you ever even tried PvP?

Anyway, the Magekiller is a very fun build, typically made for mid levels, since most LLD isn't casters.

I'd post it, but I'm too lazy and I have to go get a haircut. Maybe later.

Haha yeah, it wasn't much of a "battle" anyways. More like me running around trying to find city of the damned and getting caught in the crossfire of 800000000000000 gloams

Even considering FBR issues I would still stick with a Sigs shield as the majority of LLD are chargers who don't really require fast blocking to duel. Against other kickers/jabbers/zealots then the FBR would be very helpful. On east the make-up of chars maybe a lot different but on west chargers are the majority off LLD's.

Stinger, PvP. That's like blasphemy. I think he wants to get in to heaven when he dies. Wait there's no afterlife, only the remeberance of your deeds!! Might as well get pking Stinger!!

Stinger, picking on those monsters is pretty one sided too eh? :innocent:

We know you dont like pking, but you cant much complain about a 100% legit dueler/pker using a kicker, its not even a lameish build like a charger, and hes more legit than 95% of the pvmers you will find.

Gloams have spam n00b at me, and then chicken when I hostile. This is why people move to PvP. Err...wait. In any case, monkeys love cheese.

At level 35, my kicker hasn't lost to a comparably leveled Conc barb yet. Lowest conc barb to beat me was 48 and it was designed as an mld. Conc barbs generally rely on a very high def in order to be a tank, but a kicker generally will have loads of AR. Mine has 11k when I put on 2 Angelics which is more than enough to hit just about anyone reasonably close to your level.

Druids on the other hand, I've dueled a a sick level 30 named Yellow_dog (E SC L) owned by a player named Mei if any of you are familiar with SC LLDs. He trounced me pretty good, but I haven't lost to any other melee druids.
