Invest a point in Static Field and spam that instead (you'll have to stand somewhat close to Lister for it to be in range). Then have your merc finish him off.
By the way, Inferno is bugged to only do 1/3rd of the damage it says... and the damage it says isn't much in the first place... if you're trying to play an Inferno sorc, I wish you the best of luck.

because it's Blizzard we're talking about.
why havn't they fixed the fend-bug or the LCS, both of which existed pre-LoD?
as for Lister, i'm sure he's got decent fire res even in normal.

He is fire immune in Hell.
Use telelkinesis to keep him stun locked, Static Field to take half of his health, and let your merc kill him.

You should pick up the utility skills. One point in static field, telekinesis, and teleport.
For now, if you can't manage to kill him lead him out of the throne room and then Baal will enter his chamber.
What level are you? You may need to keep doing runs to level yourself and your merc.
Inferno is bugged as has been mentioned. If I were going to try an inferno build I would try a frozen orb-inferno build. FO would be the primary attack and inferno for cold immunes.
It would be nice if they would finally fix the bug with the 1.13 patch.

If you want to try the Frozen Orb-Inferno route then put your next points into Cold Mastery and Orb (and prereqs.) Then keep pumping Orb until it is 10. You can leave cold mastery at 1. After that you can alternate between Orb and Inferno. Frozen Orb does not have to be synergized so you can fully synergize your inferno.
Anyway, you can easily gain levels from Baal runs until about level 55. Just keep on killing all the minions and you'll keep leveling until you can kill Lister and Baal.

Good luck with your inferno sorc. I made one in single player, and she's now parked in the WSK 2 on Hell. You might want to consider getting energy shield to tank, since you'll be standing in place for so long whilst waiting for Inferno to do its work. I found normal and nightmare to be fairly doable with medium gear, but once in Hell, the merc takes over the majority of the kills.

That would be good, but the problem is I have put NO points on mana whatsoever.. so the energy shield would be useless! The main issue is his regenerating. Has anyone else noticed his health going back up, or is it a glitch?

Shop for a 2 socket staff that has +2 or +3 to inferno and make Leaf (Tir-Ral) out of it. That should boost your damage considerably. You should be able to shop in either Act 1 or Act 2 for such a staff. Act 2 will give you a chance of getting another higher level skill like enchant on it too. Enchant is synergized by warmth so with such a staff you could give your merc a helthy boost to damage.
Oh, and remember that you need a normal "white" 2 socket staff, not a blue magic staff to make the Leaf rune word.
