Ladder reset time???

Well, it's 10:40 PST, and the Bnet status forum isn't even updated, so I'm not holding my breath on 11:00.

If they are anything like the company I work for, they will require a 3 hour meeting to discuss who is going to do what and when. They will have managers in the meeting asking how much the reset will cost and what the return on investment will be. They will have techs in the meeting who will wonder why they are having a meeting and not just doing what they need to do. Then after the meeting, some other crisis will emerge that requires the techs in charge of the reset to drop what they are doing and attend the new crisis. Then another meeting will be required to determine whether or not they should reschedule the reset. Then they will decide that they made a promise to their customers, so even though they aren't ready, they will go ahead with the reset anyway. By this time, half the team of techs will have gone home for the day, so the one tech and 5 managers who were in the meeting will be left to handle the reset which will now take twice as long as previously suggested.

That's how my company would handle it.
Damn, why does it sound familiar?

Woot 100th post in my thread :P

I bet that blizzard will do it at the most inconvienent time for everyone.

I would agree, except that people play worldwide, so the odds are that there will be at least 1 lucky timezone.

And I find it funny that so many companies seem to succeed in spite of themselves.

Actually, a sound business decision does mean it is the right decision financially. I don't know if you realize this, but the main purpose of a business is to increase revenue. If you're looking for morally correct decisions about video games....I'm afraid I can't help other than to recomend a psychologist.

Sorry, you're dead wrong. The main purpose of a business is to grow. Increasing revenue is a long-term strategy. Amazon.com deliberately lost millions for 5 straight years in order to secure their customer base for the next 20.

Alan Ladd Jr., the studio executive who bought Star Wars for 20th Century Fox, the only man willing to take a chance on Lucas's baby... was FIRED (or resigned) for it. Why? Because part of the deal was that Lucas kept all the merchandising... completely normal at the time, because they didn't have toy tie-ins. But rather than focus on the record profits the company made, they were infuriated at the new market that was broken into and the money "left on the table". Ladd made the right financial decision but not a sound one, and now it is standard Hollywood procedure to lock up all markets, known or unknown.

I believe Blizz f'd up. They cut the Diablo budget, alienated the creative team, alienated their customer base, and created their own competition... and abandoned that segment of the market. Right financial decision? Sure. Sound financial decision? No.

Morally speaking? When I say "moral" I refer to the will to do the right thing by the customer. And you bet your *** I'm going to go to bat for the right thing in every aspect of my life... whether it's buying a video game, TRADING in a video game, or discussing a video game. By your rationale I should have no problem stealing/scamming/duping because it's pixels.

Now, can we move along here? We obviously have opposite worldviews on the ways things should be done. And that's great. I make a lot of money IRL off your kind.

I wonder what they are doing right now.... prob eating ice cream and playing WoW and forgot about the reset

Sunny skies and 70F in Irvine. My guess they are having a BBQ out in the parking lot. Oh, and some of them are inside closing out their eBay auctions for all their ladder gear before the reset.

And you guys thought Blizzard didn't have recurring revenue from D2

Actually it is a beautiful day in SoCal today. And the 3 techs still assigned to their poor last-franchise game are probably enjoying that BBQ and wondering...

"What the hell do I have to do to get promoted to SC2?"

 I don't agree with everything you say, but this last statement kicked arse.

Put in a simpler and nicer light, the Stakeholder Theory.

Saying that the Blizz employees are probably having a BBQ or costume party right now can't be too far off. We've gone past another hour mark with no signs of the reset.

LOL. They are temps. Summer hires brought in so that the real techs could take their families on vacation.

Nowdays constant income only comes from 2 types of games(esp. mmorpgs)...

1. Monthly paid
2. Ingame items.

while diablo got none of em..and how much it costs to get a new cd key ...mere $9 and u can play for a lifetime..

so blizzard tries balances enhancement vs cost.. at the end what it realizes is that just to host the game on AT&T and DACOM servers is quite costly so thers no hope for new improvments..

u wouldnt really buy the game if its being constanly updated but is single player?..

still i think its one of the best games out thr.. even when compared to free mmorpgs (ingame cash based) like heros, ryl, eudemons...

and scope for improvement is enormus..im if blizzard think the right way they can still make loads of cash outta this game..but are they thinking?

Well... we should behave, just in case one of those temp-techs is reading this.... :) They work hard for us. Right? Er...

Truth is, they probably came in this morning, had coffee, and are going through a final "checkdown"...

Why will it happen before 1PM PST? Because they want to go home by 5PM, just like everyone else. And I really doubt that Blizzard is eager to pay overtime in case something goes wrong. Best to do it while everyone is at the office and on the clock.

Oh, wait, no no no... dammit. That makes too much sense! Scratch that.

They are running more than half the eBay stores selling items. Judging by the other thread in this forum on that topic, I'd say they are making more per month on those sales than WoW's monthly fee.

LOL!

Couldnt get anymore truthfull than that.....

im sure a company such big as blizzard will get engaged in such activites...

maybe the red button is jammed.. :p ...its been a while anyone has touched it..

Maybe the guy who did the last reset left the company and never told anyone where the button is actually located. He is now holding out for an overdue severance package

This is what is going on in Blizzard right now:

"Who put my laptop in jello?"

If you don't get that then there's no hope for you.

:fortuneteller: Reset in approximately 1 hour...

 I agree that they aren't going to pay OT for the reset so....

Blizzard are great

Diablo 2 is great

The ladder reset is great

Stop whining!!

Edit: just balancing it out. The non-whingy whiners don't post, they patiently wait for the reset. Maybe Blizzard read all your ^&*py posts and decided not to reset for a bunch of ungrateful complainers.

Flame away :p
