Simple version: company makes perfect car and sells it with free maintenance for life. 10 years later, the maintenance is still free, but it takes forever and the service is piss-poor. If the company claims it is losing money on the free maintenance, then it either needs to stop it and start charging, or it needs to take responsibility and suck it up and do the thing properly. I will never, ever, ever accept s*** customer service when I pay good money for a product.
Of course, that means I'm a total idiot and have no idea of basic economics, right?
I would just like to point out that the servers are still maintained. You paid your $50 to get the game. Updates were never part of it, and are a free blessing whenever they happen.
Simple version: company gives you cheap dial-up internet indefinetly, for only a one time payment of $50, and with no promises of upgrades. Other people get cable and dsl from the same company, but pay monthly fees along with the $50 surcharge, but get better service, and consistent upgrades. Unfair for the dial-up? You decide...
And to answer your last question, I would not say you are an idiot, but you really, really don't understand basic economics. :soapbox:
