Is Wisp Projector worth it on a summoner?

The spirit of wolverine is lvl 5 - 48% enhanced damage. I'm using a Rogue Merc with thorns and I just found the wisp projector in the pits. Is it worth even using as a damage enhancement tool?

The repair costs are fairly hefty, using it every run would get expensive as well.

I think that most people use wisp projector for the effect it has on gloams in WSK. Their piercing lightning bolts are possible the second most powerful attack against a summoner from a regular monster (the worst would be the nihi's vipers missile attack). With max resist and either: a high absorb wisp projector or a T-God's belt, the lightning attack becomes easy to deal with at the cost of only losing a +1 to all skills from a SOJ.

The wisp projector is useful on a summoner because it offers the three things a summoner actually needs, ED on summons, defense against gloams, and MF. While it is true that the charges are expensive they can be reserved for only particularly difficult fights like ubers or act bosses. It's not much but every little bit helps. Even without them it's still one of the better rings for a summoner stat wise outside of the +skills rings (although some prefer it to even those).

I just so happened I found an SOJ in the game previous to the game I found the Wisp in. Earlier today I had a go with the Wolverine summoned and it didn't last long otw to Baal. It definitely would have to be used for specific fights otherwise its just too fragile to survive random incoming damage.

Thx for the info both of you.

Was baal decrepified? If you cast decrep on him he switches to his melee attack. This should help the HoW live as it will usually die to the tentacles or the frost wave.
