Is phoenix shield good for babas?

I just found out about this phoenix shield and saw that it gives 400% enhanced damage or something like that at perfect. Why is it that I have never seen a barb using it? Is stormshield better than it? I mean 400 ed seems like quite a lot...

Very expensive to make + extremely poor block rate. If you were going to equip something in the off-hand for a damage boost, you'd be better off using a beast weapon, since that would give you damage, ar, speed for normal attacks, and (assuming you're whirlwind) more hit opportunities.

The low block rate kind've defeats the purpose of making it in a shield. Stormshield is still the king, thanks to it's huge block rate/defense and PDR.

For PvP, yeah. PvM, I'd probably do dual BotD if you were doing frenzy or whirl or something, just because that's a lot of stats, and they're indestructible, which is nice when you're wearing them down on monster hide.

I use Grief phase blade and Phoenix monarch on my favorite WW barb. My other WW barb uses BOTD eth great poleaxe, and my WW/Frenzy barb uses BOTD eth zerk axe and Doom zerk axe (and Beast zerk axe).

The Grief/Phoenix combo is the best I've used thus far. My barb kills quickly and has no trouble with anything the game can throw at me, except for iron maiden (compensate by using Beserk) and dense packs of gloams (taunt/warcry to break them up if you have time; I hope they fix that gloam damage bug with 1.11). If you really need the % damage reduction, then use Stormshield, but if you don't (and I certainly don't) then Phoenix is the way to go in my opinion.

I'm building another dual wielder right now, and will compare vs. my Grief/Phoenix...

I don't do PvP, but I assume Grief/Stormshield is the better option...

I agree with Hal - the one thing not going for Phoenix is the r/w has no increased chance block and faster block rate going for it For pally's at least the sacred targe has a decent base 60% block and they have holy shield skill. If i wanted off hand ed i would definitely choose to make a Fortitude rather than Phoenix and i could use storm for block or beast zerker.

Are you guys thinking mostly PvP? I'd agree with the Stormshield in PvP. For PvM a dual wield for a WW Barb seems pointless unless you're going to try to help a party by sharing aura from runewords (Beast or Last Wish).

In PvM I tried some combos tonight, nothing extensive, just a few hell passes... I tried Grief/Grief, Grief/Phoenix, and Grief/Stormshield. I'll move over a BOTD and maybe a Beast tomorrow and check that out as a variation as well. Thus far I'm still sold on Grief/Phoenix.

I never take enough damage to worry about blocking being low, dual wielding wasn't really killing any faster, and if nothing else the Redemtion aura on Phoenix made it worth giving up everything else. I was WW'ing through skeleton archers near Shenk, and without Phoenix my mana rapidly dropped to Zero, leaving me to drink pots or switch to Concentrate (yuck). Switching back to Grief/Phoenix eliminates that problem, and frankly the critters died just as fast as with other combos.

Perhaps I'm just going against the grain, but if you haven't actually tried the Phoenix, then I recommend you do so one day. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't...

for duels i only like pheonix for the cool aura effect lol
stormshield is better but in my opinion i like to make duels more exciting and go for the first hit wins kind of thing. so i use a ebotd CB with 2 hands

Storms shield is much better than Phoenix for BvB, HOWEVER using both good Phoenix and Crown of Ages â€Ber, Ber†would do an insignificant answer to the Storm and Arreats. Damage reduced at max is incredible necessary doing BvB’s. Here CoA “Ber, Ber†comes in handy whit a max damage reduced at 31%. Using this expensive helmet would be a terrible waste for a shield-barb whit out owning Phoenix shield as well. Phoenix will really take care of your damage dealing on the battle field for sure 350-400ed! Phoenix shields Redemption aura is very nice for life regeneration as well. If low BO is a problem then use BO helmet for runs and CoA for melee duells.
I know that Phoenix has low block so lots of dex is needed. Set points in dex when level up most of time and use charms for life thats what i have done and it really kicks arse !
