Is a fire-based druid viable? Nobody talks about it.

Is a fire-based druid viable? Nobody talks about it. It seems ignored.

I tried out the skills, and I'm not too impressed with them... as they have clunky control. Fissure seemed decent. At least it always hit the enemy you had your mouse over, and it hit enemies around him. I would just cast armageddon, which had 50 seconds on it... and then spam fissure. I did this on the 1.13 ptr, to test it out.

What are your experiences?

PvM or PvP?

i've only tinkered with a pvm (elemental) one. he was neat, but not so much when I got to hell.

For pvp, i usually see fire claws over elemental shaman.

Yes it's viable, but challenging unless you have access to good gear, most notably Infinity on your mercenary.

My guide

There is a recent new guide by -teacup over at the AB druid forums that is worth reading, too.

I was able to solo a Fire druid a little way through SC Hell Act V, but I ended up giving up on him; I should probably try him again.

They're viable, however the Fire Tree needs to be supplemented with another tree.

I was in the same boat. I was able to solo through most of hell, but WSK was near impossible. It takes a lot of tps, time and just plain monster parking to make it work.

Fire druids are doable, but it takes very careful playing. Mine can run the Pits really well, and he works as a magic finder. Molten Boulder is the key to dealing with fire immunes.... this helped me in Act 1 with the fire immune carvers by keeping them at a distance and hurting them til my merc and 1 point grizzly could help out. For tight corridors like the Pits, Molten Boulder will give you crowd control and knockback smaller monsters.

Fire Huntermentalist :D

The way you deal with FIs is through mercenary and (20pt) Grizzly. And Infinity if you play ladder and can afford it.

Re: Is a fire-based druid viable? Nobody talks about it.

I have a level 68 fire Druid (Fissure/Volcano/Grizzly) that was doing okay through NM, but has hit a brick wall in Hell. I'm nowhere near wealthy enough to afford something like an Insight. Just going through the Stony Field in Hell was an exercise in frustration because a) fire immunes are obviously a giant pain... although my grizzly/merc combo can kill okay, they're dumb as bricks so they kill the Fallen and not the Shaman, even if you recast Grizzly on top of the Shaman and b) the fire skills are so underwhelming damagewise, that any monster with fire resistance at all takes 4-6 Fissures to kill. I have a Reaper's Toll that I was going to put on my merc at 75 for the decrepify, but I don't think I can even make it that far.

My gear is okay I guess, but I think you need elite gear (like Infinity, Hoto, etc) to make this anything but an exercise in frustration in Hell.

Do some more Nightmare Baal runs, enter Hell when you're about lvl 75. That will help a lot. But yes, FIs will remain a problem.
