Iron Golem Questions

To put it simply I am wondering in general what mods an Iron Golem will recieve from items, will it recieve the base dmg on a weapon used, or perhaps an ED% on a weapon? (For instance 223% ED transfers over to the golem). I know that resist items will get carried over but I am unsure which mods I can be sure my golem will get.

AFAIK, all mods. not base damage but all magical mods, as if your golem had those prefixes & suffixes. so ED, hit blinds target, CB, added elemental damage, increased speed, resists, etc.

In fact, there was a discussiom in the necro forum about an IG getting the aura if you made him out of a runeword that gave an aura.

Yep, mods only, base damage/defense etc are all irrelevant.

Some fun (and somewhat common) things to try making IGs from: Hwanin's Refuge, Earthshaker, Crushflange, Goblin Toe. Also look for rares with lots of enhanced defense/damage, resists, replenish life, or life leech. Unfortunately the only mod that doesn't transfer to the IG is, you guessed it, indestructible. :) And for brownie points, try making an IG from an ethereal item.

Unless the AI for the IG has been greatly increased in 1.10, it's not a good idea to get to carried away with the source for the IG. They tended to take a wrong turn and fall down backholes in 1.09.

They still do. Not to mention (in softcore) a wrong turn leading to your own death is also the death of your iron golem. The items I mentioned are relatively common for mf'ers, at least, I never considered myself much of an mf'er and found those items in droves.

IK maul also makes a fairly effective golem. especially for boss runs. especially with the commonality of it you'll probably find more than your golem dies.
if i use an iron golem i like to base them off of defensive items. like holy(or saintly cant member which has bigger def % bonus) something or other

No need to worry about losing my golem when I die, because if I die I stay dead, Im all HC baby :flip:

IK maul, bonesnap etc all make good IGs (especially for Boss running as others have said).

I've made (during an experimental phase) DOOM and EXILE Iron Golems which are basically walking auras. Very cool but they will die sooner than later. So, something common makes a good IG like the aforementioned IK maul etc.

Once you get good at necro cursing and crowd control then your IG is less likely to die. I find more IK mauls and bonesnaps than I need currently. I usually use the Clay golem anyways unless i'm running Baal and Meph.

Im very good at the necro, just decided to use a golem build for fun. The golem has been made out of a bonesnap for the CB and resists it offers, so far the Golem has died zero times. Thorns + Amp dmg is also very nice for crowd control :)

I remember I read a great guide for the Iron Golem in the Necro forums (or was it strat compendium?). I don't remember, though, if it was 1.10 or 1.09. Do some search in there, it is great material.
