Iceblink effectiveness

I an thinking about using Iceblink on one of my act 2 mercs. How deep into the game is Iceblink effective?
Thanks.

I don't know how effective it will be on a merc, but I used it on my frenzy/mace barb until act V of nightmare and probably would have used it in hell had it not been for the resistance (or lackthereof) issue. It seemed to work well against everything I encountered though.

The Blink isn't too bad actually. You can use in in lieu of a Cold merc and more creative would be on a Might merc for a Necro army. Upgraded it would carry decent defense.

Wouldn't it be quite effective on a multi-zon?
Even on a fast Strafer it would be ok.
Socket it with an Ias/Resist Jewel, and then upgrade it to the Russet Armor, it wouldn't be to bad at all!

In old classic d2 (pre 1.08) the freeze target on iceblink freezed every time. Then (and still now) blizzard put in a formula for chance to freeze target based on your level and the monster's level. I assume that the higher level you are the better your chances of a successful freeze. Items that give something like "freeze target+2" will boost your chances of a successful freeze.

Just bear in mind that Freezes Target doesn't always Freeze the target. IIRC, Iceblink has Freezes Target + 1 meaning that if MLvl =< CLvl + 1, then you CAN freeze them otherwise you will NEVER freeze them (only chill). Even if you CAN freeze them, I think there's still a chance you will only chill them.

Still, doesn't stop it from being an excellent armour, though somewhat lacking in resists..

Also, Cold damage from charms and items might add to the freeze duration, but don't quote me on that one.

I thought for it to freeze you have to target a single target. I don't think it'll work on a zon, but I could be wrong

I tried it on my strafazon and didn't see it working. I thought at the time it was because the armor just plain sucked.

The formula can be found in the Facts & Formulae archive, right here.

Nope, that won't lengthen the freeze length.

Are you sure it won't?
When was that changed?...it used to be fun times trying to trade for 10 second EoEs to make the freeze time longer.
