I may have been scammed...

Don't wory... this isn't a "I've been scammed and am begging for items" thread. All my accounts are intact. This is more of a ranting thread, so don't mind me.

What happened is this...

A few weeks ago, in playing, I met a new friend. New to the game. He was making a barb, so since I've had IK pieces haunting my MF runs, I gave him most of the set, aside from the armor. Gave him a few items here and there as tome went on. no big deal. Even saved him from getting his items scammed, when I just happened to go into one of his games right before it happened.

Eventually, he made another friend, who gave him lots of good sorc MFing stuff, and his new MF character was made. Little bit more time went on, and he gave me the password to his account, incase I wanted to use his sorc for MFing. I came up with the idea to then make a seperate account, that we'd both share, and put good items that we weren't going to use on there, and I'd try to trade them off for Runes on the forums here.

A few minutes ago, I went to check the account, to see if he's put anything new on there, and the password didn't work. Since I made the account, I used b.nets password recovery, and when I got on the account, 1 character was deleted, and the others were empty. Not good. I tried getting on his two accounts, and the passwords to those have been changed.

Now, really the only loss of this is a Lightning Ormus' that I put on that account, that I had MF'd with my Hammerdin, and was too lazy to find a spot for it on one of my accounts.

One thing that isn't changed, however, is that his email password is the same as his b.net accounts...

I decided to try that out. Got on, so I'm going to use the recovery feature to get onto his other accounts to see what's up.

Going in his email, however, I noticed something else that might have been the cause of this. 2 people had sent him hacks. d2loader, d2hackit, and a meph bot.

Well, I'm going to go use the PW recovery and check his other accounts.

Time to see what's going on.

Interesting, and he gave you his e-mail password, or you just guessed and he had the same Pw. . .why would you try getting into someone's e-mail though. .lmfao. Atleast you didn't loose much.

Yeah, he had given me his email address before so I could send time something, and then when he gave me the password to his account, he mentioned that he used that same password for his email.

I just checked one of his accounts. Looks like things are intact there.

Waiting on the second account now.

Thinking I might strip what he has on his accounts, until I figure out what exactly has happened.

Edit: Just found my Lightning Ormus' on his second account...

Sad...

Looks like he decided to be greedy. .that's really pathetic when it sounds like you have helped him out. .I'd steal ALL his stuff and delete his characters. .yeah that'd show him. . .course it's bad to lower yourself to his level. .still. .it'd show him!

Moron didn't even change his e-mail password. .

Seriously. .using same passwords=bad. .people like Gir will "hack" into them. :D

I did one better.

I just stole all his accounts, including the new one he just made to hold sets that I didn't know about, but found out he made from the message from battle.net that was in his bulk mail folder.

Changed all his accounts to my email address, and put new passwords on them all. Deleted everything in his email from battle.net, so he'll never know I was there. Should take him a while to figure out what happened. Guess some people just have to learn the hard way.

I'll be going through them at me leisure, and most likely selling anything of value off on the forums here.

Sad it had to come to this.

I guess I'll just consider this taking back my IK set pieces, with interest...

holy crap... I dont know what to say. On one hand i want to say that you've gone too far and have lowered yourself to his level, but the other part of me thinks that the bastard got what he deserved...arghhhh! im too tired to think!

The little Ñôöß got what he deserved if you ask me.

GIR tried to help him, he trusted him a hell of a lot more than I would of, and the little freak "tries" to scam him. Too bad he was too pathetic to even scam something when he had everything he needed to do it. . .

I really have to agree.

I don't even know why he'd try to steal from me. My friends get whatever they want from me. I outfitted MF sorcs for two friends... gave Zealot gear to another earlier. Given away countless other things, all for nothing.

This really pissed me off.

Well, look for my thread in the East Trade Forum, coming soon, as soon as I get an inventory of what's valuable.

Bah...

Vengeance is sweet, but I think you may find that actually going into his personal email account, and leaving this thread as evidence is against the law. And that's Federal Law. Everyone around here likes to play games that involve looking things up on the internet, well have at it mates...

How is it against the law? Does it have something to do with going through people's personal mail?
Furthermor, do you honestly think the kid would involve authoritys, like.. he's not even bright enough to change the password on his email acct.

No I don't think the kid would involve the authorities, he probably doesn't even know about this site. I was just thinking that there has to be at least 1 cop somewhere in the World who might just be a member of these forums. Even then I don't think anything will happen but I see no reason to tempt fate by having this thread around. If it's in writing and in the public domain, you are just asking for trouble.

Something else bothers me, it is the fact that you base all your assumptions on one fact: he changed the account of your common account. Perhaps he tried to steal from you, but it was perhaps something else. Things happen sometime, that seem to have obvious explanations, until you discover that what actually happened was very different from what you thought. I think you should hear his version before committing something irreversible...

I must also say the if you plan to strip all his accounts because he betrayed you and stole your Ormus (how sad is that?), the punishment seems a bit disproportionate to me. I would encourage you to look for more appropriate measures. :uhhuh:

Alright... I'm listening.

You tell me what a good explanation would be for taking everything from our shared account and moving it onto his private account, deleting one of the characters from it, and then changing all his other account passwords which he knows I knew, is.

I've been following this thread for a while and decided to give it a reply.

He did wrong by taking the items and deleting a char. But how can you justify your actions? You robbed a player from everything. Now, maybe he deserved it, maybe he didn't deserve it, but my point is: who are you to play judge and executioner? Taking back what was yours and emailing him about the whole situation would be the more appropriate thing to do. In my opinion (and you can count this as an ethical/general opinion) you did very wrong, so you got scammed, lowering yourself to the scammers level won't make him realize his mistakes or make you a better person.

So, I'm sorry, but these kind of actions make me lose all respect for you, you're no better than the next scammer to me now. Don't take this personally, you may be a nice guy, but this was very wrong of you to do.

I have no idea

But that doesn't exclude the fact that there may be some reason that I am not currently able to think of. You know, there is a reason for which every man has the right to get a fair trial before being convicted. If it was possible to give a judgement based only on the more obvious fact, there would be no need for lawyers or appeal courts.

You don't take any risks by listening what he has to say. If his answers seem ridiculous to you, you will still have the possibility to do what you want to do. Believe me, I have no sympathy for scammers. But are you positive that he is one, beyond all reasonable doubt?

you're no better than the next scammer to me now
Taking revenge at someone who asked for your help and then betrayed you for pure interest is still different from making a life of scamming and abusing people for money/items. If I was to experience this, and if I had the opportunity, I am not sure I wouldn't be tempted to take some excessive measures too. :grrr:

A similar situation happened to me.
We're all in the same clan.
Let's just name the scammer person number 1. Another friend is person number 2. And I am me.
Me and person number 1 shared mf accounts, I trusted him because I've known my clanmate for a long time. Person number 2 was the same, he trusted person number 1.
When person number 2 was going away for a while, a few days maybe. He trusted person number 1 with his accounts (And I still think he should of trusted me, because I was one of the most trustworthy people in the clan).
When person number 2 was back, his accounts were stripped. He msged me on aim asking what the hell happened. And even posted on the forums about it. So, I msged person number 1 but he just lied to me and gave me a ******** excuse. "I don't know what happened, I'm waiting for battle net password recovery."
I also checked our mf account, and it turned out that he had stolen that too.
Eventually he confessed to it, but it was too late. He didn't give anything back. And I lost respect for him. I still see him sometimes and I just follow him and PK him. But I'm not really mad at him, because it's just a game.
Besides I don't play D2 often anymore.
What you did was a bit over the edge, but nonetheless if he really was a scammer then he deserved it. Like other people said, hear his version of it first.

This Is a very hard call,,The ONLY reason I could think of is if he had given out the password to a third party.. BUT if that was the case he should have contacted you asap and told you what happened , putting you on Ignore kinda negates that.

Talk to him before doing anything to the accounts, but this will let him know that there are consequence even in Cyberspace to the actions that you do.

Seaskye.
(glad she has a friend on B net who is 200% honest)

IMHO...Just get out of it all together. Nothing good can come from evil. Reset his passwords and just get out. You deleting his chars won't be a wake up call for him to be nice, it'll just make him get other people's passwords without giving out his own.

I had a character on SWG and when I left I gave my info to the leader of the clan I was in. He gave the info to someone who had joined the clan and they took the info and ran, bye bye SWG.

Note* Never give anyone your password. Period Even if you trust them they might give your info to someone they trust who isn't trustworthy.

Battle.net can't help you if you gave someone your info, only if they stole your info. And taking revenge will only get him to take revenge on you.

You could have asked B.net for help with this and they may have seen fit to ban his CD key. That would be more effective and honorable than stealing his stuff. B.net is the one who should judge him from a non-baised viewpoint. Your judgement/actions were no doubt premature and irrational.

i would have just put all the uber rare items on his highest lvl character, then deleted that character, and took back the items i gave him.

change the e-mail back and things, and have him pwned of the good stuff... but i wouldn't take it all... maybe a gheeds or anni or something if he had it as interest (wouldn't delete those), :p

but i see no reaosn in taking everything... i have excess stuff I give away to people, i rarely trade things, so trading on forums often isn't worth it for me.

------------

Was it right to do everything you did... no
Even people i trust on bnet now and I consider friends, i'll never let know what my best equip i have is, or mule account items or things. If I MF something REALLY good, and they ask what I found, i'll say something that isn't as good, so it sounds like i don't have very good luck and i'm not worth trying to steal from.

i'm evil at times, and so are many people.

Stealing some things on battlenet isn't that big of a problem, you can easily get things back in a short period of time if you really want to.

What's REALLY bad... is the viewitful Joe 2 Demo from PS Underground which will erase all your data on your memory card in slot 1 if you have it in when you start up that demo piece... that is really a downer when you have 500+ hours of different game time in it, or even more -_-
