I am new to diablo 2

Yeah im new, im playing on Asia realm, and ive been looking at guides for the last day or so really confused.. i want to make a paladin for mostly solo leveling because i dont like to party i feel there is too much responsibility involved.
All the guides i have looked at tell me to add X amount of strength depending on the gear i will have at the end of the game or X amount of dex for block depending on my gear... the only problem is I DONT KNOW what kind of gear i will have at the end i have never played before... can anyone help a noob, sorry =/

Re: I am new to diablo 2

Well those types of guides are generally geared towards those who have end-game equipment sitting on their mules and have the luxury of transferring over whatever they want to their new characters as they see fit.
For starting players such as yourself, you'll have to look at playing characters untwinked, meaning just using whatever you find as you mosey along the game. Make a magic find character (Sorceresses are the most popular) so you can just find whatever you can by farming bosses and running random areas.

yay hammerdins!!! lmao! i know about that one!! XXDD from my understanding, it is very powerful, but (if i can remember correctly), some ppl (or a lot, whichever) see that as a very cheap thing (cheap as in Pit in SSBB). i like cheap chars, so... Pit is one of my faves. XD but if you wanna do that, go for it! :thumbup:

and welcome!!!!!! :wave:

edit: btw, i don't know THAT much about Diablo. im only here for games and socializing! ahhhh!!! :rolf: and to welcome the new guys/girls, whatever sex you are. :)

Re: I am new to diablo 2

lol, i don't know what a "fishymancer" is.... >.> i told you i don't play Diablo (or haven't played a whole lot of it yet), so i am not quite sure what you mean there, lol! im going to assume it's a necro who can fish well????

Re: I am new to diablo 2

Newcommer Forum Stickied Threads, in particular, Mursillis's "Beginners Guide to Build Selection"

All about builds for newcommers to the game/starter builds, Fishymancer (Necromancer build created by Nightfish) is among them. Also check the Community Forum Rules and Links thread (linked in my sig and it's up at the top of this forum), there are plenty of useful links in there that will help put a new or returning planer on their feet, so to speak.

Worth a read for sure.

Leopold you're such a noob... it's Chuck Norris disguised as a necromancer >.> but he doesn't fish too well D: On the other hand, he likes to go bunjee jumping off the sidewalk ^.^

Fishymancer is a necromancer who travels through game solely by using his Summons (minions if you will). They are very gear independent because the amount of minions the necromancer can have and the skills he may use to make his minions even mightier are sufficient enough to beat hell while wearing no items whatsoever. At first they are relatively time consuming but you should quickly get the hang of it =]

:bored: thank you, Boog. lol!!! jk. you're right, i AM a noob. but at the same time, i am learning so, that's gotta count for something. :p

Naftel, you findin' everything ok? starting to feel like home yet? hehehe! hope to see ya around! :)

Re: I am new to diablo 2

If you're new to diablo: Dont read guides. Play around with the character classes a bit, read up a bit on skills if the explanation confuses you, but thats it. Diablo 2 is a wonderful game, esspecially when you're new to it. Reading all those guides about certain builds is only a waste of time if you don't know anything of the game yet. Plus, I think everyone who plays D2 had fun, but fairly messed up first characters :).... and we dont want to take away the pleasure of "learning through mistakes" from you now do we guys ;).

Enjoy the forums, and even more important; enjoy the game :D

Well... See you around :]... put locks on your pockets ;]

Hello and welcome to the forums! :wave:

I would suggest you check the Barbarian subforum. The guide sticky thread contains guides full with ideas, suggestions and tips for most barbarian builds.
You should, of course, also keep your eyes open for non-sticked threads in the barbarian forum, as that's where most discussion takes place.
A good way to proceed is to read a guide or two, and if anything still is unclear you could always post a thread in that forum. When asking for help, you should also make sure to provide as much info about your character as possible (stat/skill placement, equipment etc. Or even screenshots!)

Good luck! :thumbsup:

Re: I am new to diablo 2

Maybe your character is in Hell mode too soon. IIRC, lev 67 or higher is recomended for starting Hell mode, so if you are not there yet you can level up in Nightmare games and get better gear all the while.

In general, this may sound odd, but you might enjoy playing a character that suits your personality. So if you enjoy the woods, play an amazon, or play a barbarian if you like barbarian movies, and so on. It is, after all, an action role playing game. Don't feel pressured to play the character you 'hear' is really good because they can all be very fun and very good. Hope that helps.

Re: I am new to diablo 2

@LorveN
i've read a few guides and so i know roughly what items to get but how do i get them? there seems to be little 'item' threads around in the net (or i can't find).

Level 86 barbarian
my stats:
str:60
dex:30
vitality:200
energy:10
points rem: 210

Re: I am new to diablo 2

What are your skill points distributed/remaining? And you're going to need a lot more points into strength and some into dex at some point. Barbs are melee, and need lots of armor and attack rating. Aim for at LEAST 800 defense on your armor. Also those swords are good for normal maybe nightmare, but you're going to need a buttload more damage too. If you are on EastSCL then I have some gear you can just have, if not then I suggest you go back to making nightmare games for a while and killing mephisto/baal/andariel repeatedly until you get some better gear (it only seems to take a long time until you find the first two or three pieces of good gear), or else join public chaos runs and just pick up whatever people leave behind as it's sure to be better than what you're using (no offense). Also, survivability in hell is very resistance oriented, what are your resistances at in a hell difficulty game?

Re: I am new to diablo 2

@Bongstrocity
skill point distributions are as follow;
COMBAT MASTERIES
0 mastery (as i am not sure of which weapon to use yet but i have items that add 1 to sword mastery)
1 iron skin
1 natural resistance
*some people commented on adding enough to hold axes/swords. Me without hellfire torch and anni...

WARCRIES
1 shout
20 battle orders
1 battle command

COMBAT
1 bash
1 leap
1 leap attack
1 stun
1 concentrate
20 whirlwind
0 berserk (as some people are commenting 0-1 in here, i am not going to put any in this yet)

Skill points rem:36

In hell diff, resistances are as follow;
Fire: 1
Cold: -44
Lightning: -78
Poison: -78

well... these items are taken from hell chaos runs/ baal runs. I am playing Asia realm. I have difficulties surviving in mephisto nightmare, which is rather bad too. I've noticed that usually people rely on their mercenary on such runs too.. and i've heard that nm mephisto gives good reward too. please comment. thanks

Re: I am new to diablo 2

my suggesting for you would be run nm andy until you ll find SoJ ( The Stone of Jordan unique ring ) and sell it vs WHOLE IK set ( Immortal King Set ), it should give you damage + life + res + all your barb's needs.

and speaking how good your barb is, here is my level 49 fire ball sorc on hard core:

sorcc.jpg

my main advice for your barb is: get IK set, spend max points into your mastery ( when you ll find your weapon ) to boost its damage.

also, start collecting pgms ( perfect gems ) and trade them seperatly for each ik part ( should be like 10-20 for boots/belt/gloves/maul/helmet armour would be most expensive in your build.

/edit: if you have gold, start gambling on rings + amulet + circlets. if it is not your class specific, sell it on b.net, gain some wealth

wow, thanks for your advice, but still, i may have some problems doing that as im rather inexperienced. Well, it would be hard to get the SoJ right? Are there any threads/forum sites which discusses the prices and stuff? That would help me too. And for your sorceress, what are her base stats?
