How many sockets?

Hi,
I'm sure this question has been asked before, and I have searched the forum, but no answer... And yes, I'm a noob...

I found an 0os eth thresher today, which I would love to use for insight. This means I need 4 sockets. If I use the socket quest, how many will it get? I think max on threshers is 5, at least for a non-eth ones, but it's probably the same - so it will get 5? Is there any other way to get sockets? Is it possible to control the number of sockets?

I don't know the specifics but the sockets you'll get depend on where and what act it dropped in.

It dropped in a hell game act 3, lower kurast.

Doesn't matter where, threshers don't drop on normal. It'll get 5 sockets from Larzuk, so your only option is to use a cube recipe and cross your fingers.

Thresher gets 5 max, yes, so you'll have to take your chances with the Cube.

I dont think threshers can drop from monsters low enough that it wont get 5 sockets at Larzuk

ral + amn + perfect amethyst + thresher in the Cube will give it 1-5 random sockets, but you can only do it once per thresher

I don't have any use for it as it is so I'll take my chances with the cube...
