how do u tell a fake rune from a real rune?

about 2 days ago, i decided to trade my cham for a jah rune since i had no use for a cham rune and i had a ber rune to make an enigma. we traded and we said thx and so on. I leave the game and i joined another game and i check my stash and my jah rune is not there. i was liek wtf??? then it hit me...IT WAS A FAKE RUNE!! argh i knew i shouldnt of traded him....
so how can u tell if its fake or not??

it's not always the other guys fault also
since it might have not gone poof on him
I had a dupe rune given to me had it for a few days
when I was playing I picked up a rune and my ber went poof

Or if you need to leave the room, there's a way to temporarily perm the rune I think... it requires two people and has something to do with leaving a trade window open or something. I don't know the details, could just be a rumor.
 
to wrv.1's defense, I have had great trades with him in the past, but haven't traded runes...
 
it's so sad...recently i also want to trade jah & ber for enigma, but this makes me frustrating. Will a duped rune still disappear in runeword items? Thanks!
 
It has been said that it might coldin, we never know....I rather not take the risk...

Also I don't think there is an actual way that you can perm runes... :scratch:

Put rune in item, or upgrade it. Its permed then.
 
Yep, Bliz changed the coding, so putting the rune in an item or upgrading the rune will not save it. There's really no way to tell if any rune above amn is duped or not.

My advice: if you really want the runeword, you might as well give it a shot. I traded some self-found items for jah and ber for enigma, and it hasn't disappeared in the few months I've had it, even though I'm almost positive the runes are dupes (I guess they could be legit, but the probability is horrendous).

If you are really worried about items disappearing, I'd only trade with people on this site in the trading forums who have done a lot of trading already that seems pretty legit; it would probably at least increase your chances of the runes being self-found.
 
You probably won't like this answer, but basically any rune over Ist is a dupe. The chances of it being legit are really low and I just don't really plan on chars ever using high-end runewords for this reason.
 
i think any rune out of the Hell forge range has a high chance of dupe. The 95% duped onces are anything over ohm I think.

This is interesting since on ladder season 2 I had 2 enigma's and after the first rust storm I lost them both but a friend still had his and I was "No way the runes are legit", so I decided after that to up the runes in the cube. The second rust storm on east ladder season 2 came quickly after the first and all of a sudden I am in the trading channel watching everyone cry and low and behold I still had both my new enigma's which I upped the runes.

So, this is an interesting post to me, are you sure because my enigma's are still intact after the second rust storm.

My advice is to up the runes, if it does not work then ok but you have done everything in your power to perm the item by upping the runes.

I'm preparing to make enigma but the fact of duped runes make me undecided.

I can understand a duped rune is still fake when it's put into an item, but after transmuting, the old duped runes are disappeared and the new runes are created, it seems more reliable, right?
 
@Gotcha and coldin:

According to the dupers, upping runes hasn't worked for a while. Bliz somehow has a way to track them even after they're upgraded.

Maybe you, Gotcha, weren't in a game when the dection was on, or maybe the last set of runes were legit; there are lots of possible explanations.

But then again, I don't think Bliz has turned on detection in a while, either. Like I said, I've had an enigma with definitely-duped runes for a few months now, and it's still here. Even if it poofed now, it would have been worth it to me.

If you want, go ahead and upgrade your runes first. You can also hit the chat gem to get more gem shrines and gem Wirt's leg to get more cows; if it makes you feel better, do it. From what I've heard, it won't help, though.
