Help: Runes, Pindy

Hey there ive been browsing these forums for a while and finally decided to register. Ive been playing d2 since it was released in 98' off and on. Started playing last year. Recently graduated and now stuck with dial up so ive been playing single player (atma, rrm, rrw) all summer. Currently have a 92 blizz sorc 370+ mf and am trying to find tals ammy, tals armor, ik armor and some hrs to make some tasy runewords.

My questions are:
1.) What is my best bet for getting runes? Ive been doing countess runs and collecting all the crap runes she drops and upping them but havnt been able to get past fal.

2.) My sorc cant do pindy runes anymore (killed nihtalak sp.) and am probably going to make another char to farm him. Was thinking a javazon (tstroke/ss), any input?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! Be sure to check out the stickies at the top of the page.

1) The most popular methods would be LK running, HF rushing, and 1.13 may present the possibility of running the council for HRs. Hell countess is the best bet for runes up to Ist though and you'll have a 1/1000 chance of her dropping an Ist in Hell on /p1.

2) Blizzard sorc is the best, IMO. You can run him in about 15 seconds on /p1.

Re: Help: Runes, Pindy

Welcome aboard the good ship, and greetings to a fellow Canuck. :) Have a look around and mind your wallet, people around here have sticky fingers...

To add something to what Smips mentioned, the best method for you is not only what you can tolerate doing, but also how much rune wealth you're looking to acquire. If you're looking for runes from Gul-Ohm for runewords like 'Death' or 'CtA' the arguably fastest way would be to HF rush in 1.09 classic, since there are no level requirements to pass the Ancients and only 4 acts (along with other quirks about that version that allow certain characters to get through quickly). The catch to that is that you have to accumulate new gear and build up characters in that version, which may not suit you. On the flipside, LK can be a good source for Lo-Ber runes but is definitely a test of patience and determination, and is much more dependant on luck versus HF rushing. However LK also offers the benefit of collecting valuable charms, jewels, gems and other items while running with the chance of finding HRs. Just something else to consider...

Again, it depends on what runewords you're looking to make, and how you would like to play the game according to your playstyle. Good luck!

Re: Help: Runes, Pindy

Its perfectly fine to kill Nihlathak as long as you dont activate the waypoint in the halls of pain. That way the red portal stays open.

Re: Help: Runes, Pindy

Check on page 2 for my recent thread on Pindle runs.

I too needed Guardianship and Soul Cage and it took 4,168 runs to get both. Pindle actually dropped all pieces to Tal's and IKs for me, but he is not the best source for any as far as I know.

I have run Pindle with dual tree sorc (blizzballer; 500+- runs), Furyzon (4,168 + 500+- runs), and a little bit with an IK WWBarb. The amazon was my favorite, even though she lacked teleport and took a little longer (100-110 runs per hour). With my sorc, the occassional 4th teleport, minion that broke through, or a CI Pindle usually led to trouble. I found that even as a glass cannon, the Amazon could reasonably tank and had better survivability.

Also, as far as high runes, do not count on Pindle. I did get a Mal when I ran him, and a few mid level runes, but there are better places elsewhere, as mentioned in this thread.

Yeah thats why i made this thread. I think im gonna start up a javazon and run pindy so i can complete tals for my sorc and ik armor for a future barb.

Don't you know the rules — if you search for a specific item(s) it will never drop!

Good luck in the quest.

I used upped titans and faced a LI Pindle every 4 to 5 runs, depending on session and map seed. I had Skullders/3 ptopaz helm/70+-% MFtomb reaver on my merc + Gull/3 topaz shield on switch to max MF on his kills. Soul Cage dropped on this setup, but I cannot think of another instance where the extra effort yielded anything of consequence. Not complaining, but do not expect a major improvement in results maxing your switch/merc.

Mana leech is important and I found Tals helm (w/ptopaz) + belt and ammy the best source. The extra 65% MF (+12% in belt) didnt hurt either.

Other source of ML for me (before I settled on Tals Mask) was a Manald Ring of all things. You'll need 7% (+ the recharge) to save a few seconds here and there from quaffing/picking up purple pots.

Pindle aside, the Furyzon is a fun build. Grossly overpowered in Normal/NM once synergized. I put 8 pts in Strafe to handle LIs in the Pit and she does just fine at players 8.

Hey zim, boasting about breaking long-standing rules is a good way to get banned!

Found exactly what you were looking for while MFing, eh? Want to re-think that comment? :)

Boasting about long standing rules? would love to know what your talking about but frankly I dont. If you want to be ban me over something that rediculous then go ahead.

Pharaoh was just kidding with you. It`s of course not a rule that we get banned for finding something we`re looking for:) Read it again and you will hopefully see the sarcasm in his post, he means it well.

Oh, and if you were messing with Pharaoh as a retaliation just now, I got seriously owned:wink:

One way or another message boards definitely need a sarcasm button/font — especially around here!

I think the little smilie normally does the job. :)

Re: Help: Runes, Pindy

Lmao my bad! It sounded serious hahaha

I actually read over the rules afterwards and was like wtf?

It's a long standing forum belief that if you state you are specifically searching for an item, you wont find it, even if it is something as common as a green breastplate.

Usually the only way to break the curse is to trade for said item. Then you're sure to find dozens of whatever it was since you don't need to find it anymore.

(Of course it's all crap and selective memory etc, but I'm sure you get the idea! BTW, be careful, sarcasm seems to be the second language aroudn here. ;) )

Heh, people on another forum I'm on use blue text to denote sarcasm. Personally, I think that takes all the fun out of it. ;)
