hell pit mf'ing

i have a problem, iam lvl 73 atm and i do pit runs with a total of 352 mf between me and my merc, and the best i have found until now are a hexfire (lmao) and i havent gotten anything remotely usefull from the uber chest yet

is there something i have missed or am i just unlucky

(btw iam currently doing it by myself)

I have probably done over 100 runs with about 550% MF. So far I have only found a couple nice items. Vamp Gaze was probably the best although I did find a HellRack the other night.

If I do nothing but Pit Runs for about an hour I usually come up with 1 decent item. Elites seem to come about 2 or 3 times a week and I play about 1-2 hours a night.

MF'ing is all about patience and disturbing numbers of runs....

Good hunting!

If I were you, I would try to stay away from the premise that the uber chest is the place to find good items. Rather, the champions and unique monsters in both the pit level 1 and level 2 are vastly more likely to drop you something, given that there are more of them. Kill everything, and if you get something out of the chest, then cool :)

Jason, remember, your MF doesn't determine the base item. Are you finding other crap uniques, sets and double durability rares?

well as far as i know, i should be able to get the same items as everyone else, as the base lvlsomething of the critters makes them able to drop all items in the game (in theory anyway)

and i have found base items right from belt to shadowarmor (or whatever the elite fullplatemail is called)

In the new ladder season my summoner necro has around 300% MF, i went over to Hell at level 71 and am 81 now, all levels except one came in the pits.

I got lucky today and found a unique shako in the pits, after seeing 3-4 other white and magic shakos being dropped in earlier games, I've also gotten 3 skillers, and some other basic items, but so far, the Shako is of course the best item i've found in L2.

All you have to have is patience, my runs take 12-18 minutes where the actual summoning of skellies and sometimes mages (I maxed mages but i don't use them that often because it seems that killing goes faster without them blocking my warriors) and getting to the pits take 2-5 minutes.

My RS/SM and RM is 25, as well as CE (Gotta love maxed CE because with shako I have 500 mana and can spam CE quite a few times.

Also remember to keep your Might merc at the same level as you, I've found that after I've leveld, his level up doesnt take long because he gets great xp down there.

Good luck and hope you find something worthwile .

Edit: Also i wouldn't hope to much that the chest in level 2 will give you many good items, in 20 runs I haven't gotten a single unique, and not even a set item from it.

funny thing - i thought pits=caves and first run i did there i got a shako :winner:

well, so basicly pits are the best place because its easy and you get good items, but the flaw in that is that you only get 1 --->decent<--- item in about 20 run (havent found mine yet and i have done alot until now).

in contrast i have gotten everything from skiller charms to shaftop by meph runs and overall, a hell of alot better items all in all

so NM meph runs must in some way be better for the most parts

oh on nonladder, with like 130 mf on my pvp nec i was bored so i did some mfing in the pit. i found a unique ethereal balrog skin!!! omg eth valor. i traded it for aprox 5 dupeed psn charms but then my friend offered 13 for it just after i traded it..

*edit.. i have done like 5 hours worth of pitruns in my whole life

your mercs mf doesn't add with your mf for the "uber" chest, and having less than 400 is pretty much just a waste of your time

i have seen alot of regulars on the forum say that 300 is good enough since 1.10, so your comment is far from correct based on that + my experince with other places in the game

I'd go along with that. This table will give you an idea of your chances of getting magic/rare/set/unique items, based on the amount of mf you have.

As far as merc MF goes, the only time it is taken into consideration is when your merc gets the kill. Under these circumstances, the total sum of your merc's MF% and your MF% is applied to the drops .

In 1.10 bosses require much less (if any MF) to get a good drop consistantly whereas unique monsters and champs require a good bit to reach the same aveage rate. Id say the poiont where pits are more valueable than meph lies somewhere in the 400% ish mf. But for a necro there really is no option, meph is a huge pain in the arse for any nec (in my experience) so running pits with zero MF is probably more profitable for any necro than attempting meph runs.

i used to run the pit with my frenzy barb... who's only mf was 48 travs... and yeah, every once in a while i would find some nasty unique (marrowalks and perf dracs the first run ever)
but after a while of doing this, it got boring.
so i decided to try a couple of the other higher monster lvl areas, like... the maggot lair. ha!

first run i did through there, got myself a nifty lil 2 socket crown of the ages.

basically, it can pay well to run something over and over and over and over again... but it gets boring. basically, there are other worthwhile areas. (besides pindle/meph/baal/worldstone)

I agree so much! Try playing the whole game through without getting a rush. You'll be surprised how many amazing drops you get when you least expect them! I got all my great items from questing. The only good item I got while MFing was a Shako from Hell Andy.
My Tals Set, Vipermagi, Homonculus, Herald of Zak all came from places like The Great Marsh. Places no one usually plays because they rush.

I thought they eliminated MF completely for bosses in 1.10, saying that the boss got one "uber drop" for a first-time kill (I still don't understand how two or three blue items and some gold is uber), and then any other kill would be a much lower chance.

My choice is to do pindle 1st you have your skellies fast b4 you fight kill pindle and he drops decent. You can have most of your skellies in 1 minute flat. from there it's a waypoint back to outer C and into the pit you go. Seems to save me overall time and gives me an extra boss drop in the same time it takes to raise skellies in any other area. I usually do pindle, eldritch & shenk if I feel like it. I have a full load of army and 2 boss drops instead of raising army (no bosses) then pit. The nice kicker is it's still just a WP away to the pits basically. I like to do a run on the mauseleum after the pits as it's not far out of the way and can have good drops same as the pits. If I'm in the mood I'll hit the WP for the marsh and see if the tower is close to the WP if it is I'll run it if not, lather rinse repeat. I've done it both ways and seems to cut an average of 2 minutes off of a run if I only do pindle then pit in simple army raising time plus the added drop.

Just my $2 worth.($.02 and inflation)
First round is on me :drink: :buddies:

@AvatarMyth

hell pit is a cave in tamoe highland... just go to outer cloister wp, leave and follow the road until you find the cave (be careful to not take the road to black marsh)...

the pit in hell get you any item from the game, but you can do 1000 runs w/o getting a single tal armor or somthing like that.. its all about patience and luck

theres a nice guide about the pits in the strategy compedium in purediablo.com... go there its very useful
