HC Naked Mercless Ironman MP group?!?!

Yes, I'm serious. I know many of you are probably thinking "Okay, you may be a glutton for punishment, but why try to drag the rest of us into it?"

Well, because misery loves company, that's why!

Who here would be interested in running a hardcore naked mercless ironman with me? For those unfamiliar, this would be a single MP session, in hardcore, with all characters allowed no gear and no mercs, meant to go all the way through the game. By my estimation, it would take way longer than we could all stay awake, which means that it would almost certainly end in deeds all the way around- but we could try, dammit!

I would be happy to host such an event (though I can host on Hamachi only

) whenever I am available and we could get enough people together to make a full 8-player party.

I even have some build ideas planned out, to hopefully make the passage through the game as safe and fast as possible. This idea starts with the premise that we must have at least one of each character class present, even though zons are fairly useless here

valkazon
trapsin w/ maxed fade
leap/WC barb w/ mucho NatRes
summoner druidbear w/ Shockwave
typical fishymancer
hybrid shock/freeze zeal pally w/ maxed Salvation
FO/static/fireskill sorc
8th character- either FoH/HB/Conviction pally w/utility auras added or another sorc

One advantage to this setup is that it allows a pretty natural way to split the party up for places like Maggot Lair, and really quite a lot of Acts 2 and 3:
Group 1: trapsin, barb, valkazon, necro
Group 2: druid, pally, sorc, (8th player)

Each group has meatshields and an hp booster, first group should be okay with not having Salvation aura, second group (especially if there's a conviction pally) should kill fast enough to not need a ton of meatshields.

So what's the word? Anyone else into this kind of self-abuse?

Is it allowed to drink beer? Lots of beer? I might be up for this if I find out how to freaking MP with people

I`ll probably figure that one out, so the only issue is time. When will the crazyness take place?

And I don`t care about what build I play.

How to MP: have you checked out Hamachi as of yet? As I said, it's the only way I can possibly host. I do believe there is a sticky detailing how to get it and such in the MP forum.

I figure we'll wait and see how many people show up before we decide on a team build- that was just an idea I had, not the way that it has to be.

Fishymancers are not allowed in Ironman :whistling: - it would have to be mojomancer with golem support.

Anyway no matter how crazy this sounds I would actually like to try it if we can find a day (or more

) when 8 people are free and crazy enough to make something like this

Ideally it should be around Xmas since most of us have free time now.
I can join trough hamaci no problem.

Tequila doesn`t taste very good, so I`ll just drink more beer to get to the same level of intoxication.

Wow- I admit, I was not expecting this kind of response so quickly!

@frozzzen: Yeah, I'm sure fishymancers aren't allowed in other peoples' Ironman- but I'm very very new to HC, so I know I'd love to have all those skinny skeletal bodies between me and the baddies. If the rest of the group prefers, though, we can make this by true ironman rules

@Thomh: Hamachi is really quite easy. It's a program that you install. Then you turn it on and enter my network ID and password, and it connects you to me. It wil also give you the IP address to enter to join the MP game. If we do this by Hamachi, we should have no problems helping you get it set up.

@Juicy: Glad to have you!

@All: I am also thinking of sometime near Christmas- it looks like Dec. 26th would work pretty well, at least for me, with the few days immediately following looking almost as good. Perhaps more complicated would be the question of time zones, as I am GMT -5 and thomh (at least, not sure bout everyone else) is in the GMT+ range- right, thomh? I'm sure we can make it work, though.

This idea will need lots of polishing to ballance out roles, so noone gets bored so much (read fishymancer).

However, I advocate for one set rule:

Everyone in the party has to consume at least one small beer (0.3l) of alcohol per act. Also, I vote for skype (teamtalk etc whatever) session and recording both, then compiling it

I personally wouldnt push the "naked" aspect too much, if the beer rule is there, it will imho suffice just to say "no vendors" or such to prevent prolonged town periods. Also, it will make it at least theoretically possible for non-cheese superdefensive builds/play.

However, wherever is beer, there is skiff. If the "pick your poison, enjoy it yourself" idea will get voted, I volunteer as the test subject

edit: also, so far it also seems as a company I'd really want to join.
edit 2: what about cracked gear? To prevent unwanted pickups etc? Imagine new build - Cracked thundermaul leapbarb. Imho cracked gear pwns pure naked as in "The League of Extraordinary Beggars"

edit3: It also opens new possibilities, like zons not being limited to passive, holy shield/smite for pallys etc etc.

Just dropping some ideas, thats all

lol by act 5 hell we would see pink Baals all over us

Regarding timezones I'll adapt to most of our group [GMT+1]. And 26.th+ works perfectly for me.

I dunno how skellies are working on fishy and what is their power so I will build one to test this

And about rules...We have 10 days to work around those...

I don't really play HC but I would give it a go with the back up of trusty forumites. I love fishymancers so would happily play that role if that role is included. Either that, or I would go for a cleric build. (My two favourite builds)

I'm GMT zone and I can play as long as is required from 7pm 28th dec - 11.59pm 3rd Jan, cider supplies permitting

Hm. I've been doing a touch of reading, and I haven't been able to find a common definition of "ironman." Moreover, I don't want to use some of the rulesets that I've seen represented as "ironman." Therefore, I think it is a good idea to define what I am planning a little more precisely here.

HC and naked are pretty obvious, though I should point out that, to me at least, naked does not preclude the use of charms. As far as Ironman goes:

I do not plan on full clears

TPs will be used to gather the group ONLY- no merchants in town, no gathering quest rewards in town, no TP-out-of-danger...

No skill restrictions

No mercs

Really the point of this- to me- is to get through the game and kill Hell Baal, so I don't really feel a need to make sure we kill Nilly, rescue Anya, that kind of stuff. However, I am open to discussion on those points.

@skiffcz: I'd be happy to participate in a more traditional ironman (untwinked, but items allowed etc.), but later- I've got my ideas pretty well set for the naked HC thing. I don't feel the need to require drinking by the players, though I almost certainly will be (and it sounds like we'll be starting really early in the day ion my time zone!) and everyone else is free to partake as well. As far as roles go, I'd think the barb wouold actually be most likely to get bored. Options: BO, jump, punch... take some more hits?

Since there's enough interest, I'm going to set up a signup table here. Please note for the "character desired" place that you should not feel restricted to picking one of the roles I've defined, since the team build is still open.

Let me add myself.

Few ideas of what I may play (and how): :scratchchin:

Sorc: Enchant with full warmth seems mandatory if any of my comrades decides to punch things (kicksin? elemental zealer? summoner?). Id love to have glacial spike for its freeze if no one else can pin monsters down (but i guess you can never go defensive enough in this party). With fire mastery topped, hydras and/or FW? TK can help, but cast rate will be abyssmal.

Necro: Dim vision. Dim vision? Dim vision dim vision. Also dim vision. 20ptLR/1ptAmp/1-5ishDecrep. Terror to get rid of minions/shamen etc. Max bone prison and 1pt armor. Clay golem rest for slow and recastable boss decoy.

Assa: DS trapper. This will be doing 99% of damage I guess. Fade and synergize one of the tanks to save mana for traps. Seems to be the boring one though.

Barb: Leap, BO, Bcry ... Natural resis prolly high. high Grim ward? Shout and taunt for shamen/minions/rangers/casters.

I cerainly dont want to play any of the other 3 classes, becouse Im even lamer playing them and probably would get bored/killed quickly. Favourite? Mojo necro.

I was thinking also about this. Convi paladin with healing skills would be great for total dmg output and team support. With him any sorceress can spare points put in cold mastery and he would be beneficial for all of us.

Another pally with salvation perhaps? Or this one can have it?
I like skiffcz's idea for mojo necro, but is corpse explosion included?

Myself I would like to play trapper or any kind of sorceress tops, but I can play pally or others too. Depend on what others choose.
Blizzard sorceress can work pretty good with convi pally and she can deal very good dmg ( since blizzard is not fcr dependant ) Max static is also option for any sorceress here.
For assassin max LS and DS for trap dmg, maxed shadow master for minion stack, lvl ~10 fade for resistances and ~5 minblast for crowd control. Also cloack of shadows will help here.

Leaper barb is a must i think but this class is boring as hell. Most fun you will get from him is horking potions

The problem with CE would be horrid cast rate and horrid mana cost (lvl 20 costs 34 mana). FB lvl 18 synergized DS costs 20 mana for 11 booms (ideal case its under 2 mana per boom), its fire and forget, can shoot offscreen has three damage types .... I somehow really hope we will left bodies for trapsin :whistling:

Tested Hamachi with a friend of mine yesterday and it worked fine

I have one small disclaimer, I don`t see my parents very often and this will be during my one week stay at home. They might find it weird that a nearly 30 year old man comes home for Christmas to visit their old folks and play a computer game all day. If they object too much, I might have to abandon the idea

I`m GMT+1 and 6-7 hours difference isn`t that bad, everything goes. +1 vote for the can of beer every act and for recording via Skype

All right! We need only one more to join in the ranks of the badasses here, and we'll be set! (Unless thomh has to drop, of course).

@frozzzen: yeah, I was thinking that through and realized the error inherent in having the pally with maxed salvation also be the one who depends on the elemental auras for damage. Therefore my proposal for eighth person is FoH/HB pally with maxed salvation and as much as we can get in conviction, and switch auras as needed.

@all: I have never used Skype for voice chat. I am certainly not against the idea, but would someone who has some experience volunteer to coordinate whatever needs to be coordinated for that to work? I do have a headset/mike setup already, so it shouldn't be a big problem for me to join in.
