Hal's 1.10 Conc Build Guide (Updated Edition)

i built this conc barb too, it's now clvl 85 and does pretty well in hell- i don't really have uber-gear (arreat's,arkaine's,death cleaver berserker axe, storm,ik gloves-belt-boots and some leeching, resi, skills rings+amu), dmg could be better (3,1k max) but i haven't found any berserker axes other than the cleaver and no combat skillers yet. i find this built very rewarding in terms of versatility and of course party play. really great fun to play!
skills so far:
max:
conc
shout
BO
axe mastery

pushing bash for more dmg- as im not that much of a defensive player and 25k def is more than enough imo ;) (one points in prereqs and berserk, grim ward, natural resi,leap- no leap attack, don't really see any meaning in it)

anyway, the reason for my replay is the following:

My play style leads me to hate grim ward. I have never been able to gain control of a room using the totems. It has saved my *** once in a while, but I don't have the patience to use it for crowd control on a regular basis.

in solo play i havent really found use for it neither, but i guess we all know this baal runs where through unlucky tele-ing or whatever the tp in the throne room is so crowded that everybody lives just long enough to write 'f***' or 'nice tp' and then dies ;) there are 3 situations in a barb's life when everybody welcomes his presence.
1st: bunch of casters in need of BO ;)
2nd: taunt in a run full of souls
3rd: set up a grim ward at the throne room tp (or whatever tp you want to be safe), tada: it's safe- for 40secs- but this is long enough for everybody to get set for the battle- i can't count the times where i did this and nobody died. i guess most of the time other players don't notice why the crowd would stay away and i say to myself,"well, well, 'stupid' barb rescued the whole run", BO them and get on with my conc-fighting. it's little things like this that make us feel better ^^

congratulations to halciet for this build!

ps: blood recipe: does this work with rares too? it says magical axe- rare is magic, right? and does it get additional mods to the ones it spawned with or is the weapon rerolled(enhanced) completely?

pps@hal: i read somewhere else that you are test-running an UO server right now- do you have more information like a homepage or something like this? before diablo i played UO 24/7 and i'm loking for a good free shard.

I totally agree this would be a very useful instance to use grim ward, but more times than not (at least for me) there isn't a body around or it's an insta-kill, so having the time to cast a ward is impossible, let alone finding a body (besides my own :).

The blood recipe only works with blue items. They are magical items and only they will work. The crafted weapon will come out spawning completely rerolled mods, 3 are guaranteed and it's possible to have a total of 3 prefixes and 4 suffixes (if I remember correctly), including the preset mods.

Arreat's Face with ed/ias jewel
Stormshield with ex/ias jewel
2x 20 dex ravens
Highlord's
40/15 Verdungo's
Gore Riders/War Travs, alternating
20% ias blood gloves
BotD berserker axe
Enigma/CoH archon plates, alternating

2x echoing swords
20/20 annihilus
39x 3/xx/xx charms

and demon limb in the stash.

Leveling, I used the likes of shaftstop and rockstopper, along with a 281% cruel berserker axe and things like the Butcher's Pupil.

What is better to add to a stormshield, 40/15 ed/ias jewel or eld rune (+7% blocking) ?
when i want to reach 125ias breakpoint then 40/15 jewel is probably must be, but if is worth of it ?
and if i'm happy with 10fps wpn (or i reach 125ias another way) then is 40% dmg better then 14 more point to vitality saved because eld rune in shield ?

Pneu: 40/15 Verdungo = 40 vitality, 15 pdr.

As for the socketing, after all of my testing, I found the ed/ias jewel the best choice. 14 or so life would come out to around 130ish after bo, while the ed jewel would give several hundred damage, and get you to that last break. Personally, if you're using a berserker axe, I see no reason not to go for 9 frames. That's one of the major bonuses of using the weapon.

Since I've got one lying about (2 socket), how's about a Djinn Slayer for a Conc barb ?

Tis not the hardest hitting of weapons, but it's a nice fast weapon and the requirements aren't too harsh.

Obviously, there's better choices, but I'd rather work based on what I -know- I have, rather than what I -might- possibly trade for in the year 3000.

Am planning to use this barb for Pit runs, using an Ali Baba + Heart Carver (+4 Find Item) on switch for horking corpses.

Hiya.

Apologizing in advance for asking questions that have already been asked, but I have just found this guide, and haven't looked through the 250-odd posts made in it.

Haven't made a barbarian for a while, and this looks just like the guide I'm after.

Seeing as I don't take a liking towards most of the high-end runewords like BoTD, I think I've decided on my weapon as Doombringer. From diablo2.de, about 90 fps should hit me a 9fpa. This means using Highlords, Arreat's Face with a 15 IAS Jewel, some pair of gloves with 20+ IAS, a Shael in my weapon, and a 15 IAS Jewel in my armor. Here is where I'm stuck: the armor.

You mentioned Arkaine's Valor. I'm sure the +2 skills won't go unnoticed (assuming I trade for a +2), as well as the hefty upwards of +40 Vitality. I'm just questioning if it is as useful as other armors out there. Again, I'm not going to bother going after something like CoH and I can't see something like Leviathan being useful when I've already got Stormshield's huge +strength and PDR bonus.

-Pipes

p.s. I think you mentioned a Shael in a SS is the way to go; makes sense since it will require less dexterity to achieve maximum block, correct?

I was wondering that too; it got unstickied just after I posted.

And answer my n00bz0r questions, barbarian doods.

I've no idea why it's unstickied...they didn't say anything to me about it, and it kinda hurts my feelings, since it's been up so long...just tossed out like trash. I'm guessing it has something to do with the massive number of posts in the thread, making it burn up a lot of bandwidth...but still, I don't see why they just didn't delete posts.

Anyhoo, Pipes - Doom is an alright weapon, it's just that the damage is so low that it suffers a bit. I have one on my old whirler barb, and it's rather pitiful =/. It's still a decent weapon for the mods, just suffers in the physical damage department.

Second, I never said that shael was the best socket for Stormshield, not sure where you're getting that. I suggested ed/ias. You are right, however, in that being the reason people shael it on occasion.

As for your armor delimma, I suggested Arkaine's just because it can get a ton of defense and has the vit bonus...it's nowhere near as powerful as it was in 1.09 thanks to the BO changes, but it's still nice. If you need a good armor you can socket for the 15 ias, and ethereal Steel Carapace is very, very nice.

:grrr: *nod*

I gave my Doombringer to my friend's concentrate barbarian, and as you said, the results weren't as promising as I thought. Aside from runewords, do you have a preference for the next 3 best unique weapons for this build? (don't ask me why uniques, but I guess I'm addicted to them - that is, until I find that incredible rare or make an incredible blood weapon)

Unless I'm mistaken, it might be a gruesome task to get my hands on some ED/IAS jewels.

Do any of the runeword armors fit well with this build? Possibly Stone? I've got a perfect Gloom runeword in a Scarab husk, reaching 1529 defense, I believe. It's a pretty nice armor for the runes, and I might make another for this guy. *shrug*

All these choices. :hanky:

Makes no sense to unsticky it, then let it disappear.

Smart thing would be to recopy yer original post, resticky it, then lock the thread

In fact, all build stickies should be locked upon creation. Any questions regarding em can be posted as usual in the forum.....

Edit: Restickied! Nice :)

Yeah, I'm glad it's back up. Just as a side question, is that a Rage pic in your avatar, Wolv?

Pipes: I'm not sure on the three BEST uniques for the build, as it's a matter of opinion, but I'm rather fond of Stormlash, Nord's, and most importantly, Death Cleaver. Those are all really nice weapons.

Runeword armors are great, I just didn't mention them in your case since you were talking about needing to socket an ias jewel. Stone is very nice indeed.

-Hal

I smuggled that ava from another forum I belong to. I'm not sure of its origination. I'm guessing you mean the collectible card game Rage? That goes back a ways ;)

Heh heh, old school Silver Fangs, word. I was a heavy player back in the mid 90s. Hard to believe that was almost a decade ago...I feel so old.

-Hal

OK. I think I'm going to make my build for Doombringer and Valor, and see how it goes. You addressed the 10/9-fpa issue in your guide, I think. With a non-multiple-attack attack like Concentrate, is it as important to strive for that 9 fps? It's quite reachable with Doombringer, only 90 IAS needed, but I'm not sure. I'm sure it's like the ongoing debate between 5-fpa/4-fpa Zeal attack for Paladins. :uhhuh: Does it dramatically improve your killing speed, or is it more worth it to hit 10 and just focus on damage?

EDIT: Waaaait. I've always liked Nord's too. It's probably the highest damage weapon you'll find which is as cheap as it is. But Stormlash? Wouldn't the minimum be so patheticly low? I've experimented with one before, but it just doesn't seem like it would be the right weapon on a barbarian. Maybe I'm wrong. And Death Cleaver...people rave about Ethereal Zod'd DC, but I've never even seen a regular one.

It's not the actual damage on Stormlash that matters, so much the fact that it's fast with a huge% crushing blow and, more importantly, static field.

-Hal

Another thing:

Crafted items. I'd love to see an example of an insane Blood crafted Weapon if anyone has a screenshot. Preset leech, ED, and life. Sounds like a set deal, heh. Although...can one re-roll an already crafted item, because if you're crafting a Beserker Axe, you're going to have to keep on getting new ones which would be one hell of a pain in the butt. :grrr:
