Hal's 1.10 Conc Build Guide (Updated Edition)

I'm sorry, but can you make the guide Right Aligned? I have the hardest time reading it centered like that...

Ah, sure thing! I just had it centered for my benefit while dividing up the sections. I'll split up the pages, increase the font size, and re-align the page as soon as I get the chance, though it may be friday afternoon/evening before I can get around (excessive amount of work in general over the next week or so).

Do you plan on adding a PvP section to this guide? O_o

You mentioned some PvP in the gear choices, but that's it. >_<

Although,if this guide is supposed to be all PvM ,ignore this post.

In reference to Zappa... Does Battle Cry and War Cry stack? I've read that only the last offensive Warcry takes effect. And also do Necro/Merc curses override Barb Warcries?

I can't speak for warcry but necro curses do override other barb warcries.

What an awesome guide for conc barbs

Hi Hal, I followed your guide when I made my conc barb, and I can tell you I really love him. He works, to use your words, like a well oiled machine =).

He is lvl 86 now, he got close to 200 mf and can kill virtually everything in the game. I did all sorts of boss mob runs and killed the Diablo Clon 2 times without dieing or any trouble. My fast items runs are Travincal, Phindle, Eldritch, Shenk, he can do those 4 pretty fast and save.

I can do Meph and Baal as well but it takes some time (well running and tp a few times with an amu works too). The only mobs in the game that I really hate are those annoying iron maiden mages =).

One thing that made probably the biggest difference for me was when I got my gore riders. CB speeds up things a lot. Maybe you should write that in bold letters and 3 times in a raw in your guide lol. I know you listed it as important, but I didnt realise HOW important it really was before I got it.
Another thing I really hate are those physical immune mana draining bastids, since, as we all know, berserk doesn't leach. So I finally decided to put a "dmg taken goes to mana" rune in my arreats face and the life became easier again =).

So everyone whos going to try a conc barb, follow Hals guide lines and I'll promise you, you'll be some happy Barbarioan.

Thanks again and farewell,

Sky

Guide formatting

First off, I'm amazed to see a Microsoft product using standards-based coding, but it's nice, easy to make formatting changes. I've got some suggestions to help with the readability of the guide for the users. Left align is a must, but you know that. Changing the background to just the solid blue helps make it more easily read. Setting the width of the columns to about 500 px, while it will make it a longer doc to print, makes it very readable... maybe make a printable 2 column version?

I could probably help make a more readable online version and a print version if you want. Just give me a holler.

Aye, I just threw it together in Word and tossed it up on the server for the people who were looking for the guide; it hasn't been formatted properly yet since I havn't had the time to go in and clean it up and hardcode it to look nice. Just been really busy building my website and working on the UO server. No worries though, I'll get it cleaned up reposted soon ;)

I noticed you did not include the STONE runeword in the plate section. Not good after all?

What about 2 angelic rings and angelic amulet for the AR boost?

In the weapon change, what about a Demon Limb for the enchant charges? (also AR boost)

Neuro:

All of those things have been previously mentioned in the old thread and are going to be added into the guide as soon as I get the time; between class, work on my website, server coding for UO, and the female, I havn't had an excessive amount of downtime lately =/. No worries, it's coming; I'll *try* and get a cleaned up version posted a little later tonight.

great guide i wish more peopel would write barb guides. i really wanna see a thrower or singer guide. those guys are funny espeically singer i've seen a few i enjoyed letting them kill me.

Yes, your guide is really VERY good. I was almost giving up my barb when it came out and gave me same hope in the salvation of the species... Congrats!

War Cry and Battle Cry do not override each other. Typically I'll hit a pack with Battle Cry first since that lasts longer, then I'll stun them with War Cry. They will be stunned and still have the orange BC thing floating above their heads. I'm not exactly sure how Necro curses affect BC & WC, I think a necro's curses will cancel out BC, but they won't "un-stun" them. I don't believe War Cry acts as a curse the way that Battle Cry does, and is probably the reason it isn't canceled by other things. I think it works a lot more the way a Paladin's smite works when it stuns. You can always stun somthing that's cursed.

Due to some recent windfalls in the mf department (SS,Arreats,SoE in about an hour) I'm planning to make a conc barb. Would a Guardian Angel be worth thinking about? As of now its either that or a Duriel Shell. Weapon wise what about a B.Star? good enough or not enough damage?

Jack:

Guardian Angel is a fine piece of gear to use, since it has nice defense, those upgraded resist caps, and the enhanced blocking; it's really good for cross-class pvp as well. Baranar's isn't as great, however...it's good through nightmare, but the damage isn't really up to snuff in hell these days. If you wanted to go macing, you could maybe scrounge up a Nord's or such?

think i'll give this a shot

i've not had good luck with barbs - my best one made it to NM and that's it

but i'll give this a shot

I need to clarify a few points about defense. I've seen extensive talk about it in the last thread, but there's no way to check it now.
So firstly, how does defense work? What's the formula that a hit will get through? Also, where does %chance to block comes in? Is it before, or after defense is taken into account?
I should probably post this in the statistics forum, but I trust that people in this forum knows their stuff. I'll appreciate any replies on this.
Another question is, since concentrate is uninterruptible, and blocking pauses you for a bit -- can you actually block when attacking with conc?
Also Hal, your guide is totally awesome. I'm still waiting for the PVP and MF section, :p

I already asked in other thread but noone seemed to notice:
Has anyone tried using an upgraded ribcracker for a concentrate barb?... i think that it could help getting the defense high into the overkill, with that +100% defense it has... (ww wolf with that+shout+defiance merc= 19k defense, with no ribcracker no defiance and no shout the original defense is of +/-2452...)

so far i'm getting *** kicked... normally with my barb i can kill that radaments layer no problem... but i'm having problems getting past archers and even those weak ghoul things... i'm level 19 i think. hopefully soon i'll get some decent eq or something

Ok I've decided to make an IK Conc barb and according to previous posts, the AR provided by IK set combined with a ravenfrost and maybe an AR charm should be enough. MY main concern is before I'm high enough to use IK weapon. Since I'll have base dex. Will I be be able ot hit stuff? At level 14, I've been able to use dex charms to keep my AR at a decent level, but I'm afraid that as I progress, my chance to hit will drop to like 50% or something! what can I do?

Oh and since nobody has responded to my other post, I'll ask it here: What kinda equipment should I wear before I am high enough for IK?
