Guessing adventure: Where are the "stairs" down?

Sometimes finding the way to places can drive you mad.
Like this game, where I was rushing my girlfriend. My winddruid was out of mana potions, and as it was normal I couldn't get any super manas (act 2). And I really didn't like the idea of drinking full rejuvinations...

I thought: well, I have one more place to teleport. And as the hole that leads to level 3 haven't showed up yet it HAS GOT TO be in the last spot. But I was wrong... I had the whole map and it looked like this.

So I thought "Aha, there is no way down on this map! I have experienced something really strange". But I didn't really believe that myself, so I took one more look and: voilá! there it was.

Can you guys guess where the hole to level 3 is? I've added numbers to the map to make it easier to explain.
I would love to give you something for guessing the right spot, but as I'm on Europe and the most of you are on US realms... but, if you insist I can draw something in Paint for the first one who guesses the right spot. I'm bad at drawing though. Really bad. Any three year old can beat me. But I'll do a barbarian for the winner. And the picture will be signed by the (anti-)artist of course.

It could be 2 3 or 5. Sometimes the "next level" graphic doesn't display the first time you go by it. Like in act 1 when you enter the catacombs, the entry to the Cathedral won't show up immediately.
 
I'd say this is a freak map and the stairs are in n.4.

(double edit) I once had a Durance level 2 map with no stairs up to level 3. Stopped me from MF:ing but it was funny anyways.
 
Sometimes the stairs to Durance lvl 3 are in the middle of the map, not on the outside like it usually is.
 
Oooh, fun guessing game! :)

I'll have to go with #5 - counterclockwise from the hole to level one seems to work most of the time for me. SilentMagik picked that one first though, so if it's correct, he would win.

Of course, I was tempted to say #1 since it's a simple - almost straight path and the easiest spot is usually the last place I look. That's why I don't telebaal unless I absolutely must. :lol:
 
Gotta go with number 1, if for no other reason that noone has mentioned it yet. Original artwork coming my way... :scratch: :scratch: :scratch:
 
Since no one has posted this number yet I'll go with number 2.

Why I have no idea. You can teleport easliy missing the "whole" map?

I'm rather curious which is the right one.

Yeah... :) Teleport came in late in this build. And as the f-keys are already occupied with other stuff and I'm used to that setup I just picked something.

I think I will let some more people guess before I tell what's right. So I won't tell if you've guessed right so far :drool:

Ok, I've kept you waiting long enough.
Here is the solution.
This means SilentMagik won the competition. So I will do that barbarian painting for you... Remember it will NOT be beautiful in any way. I need your e-mail address though.

You other guys did well too. Even if SilentMagik was the first one to pick #5, that spot was mentioned in the discussion more than once.

I'm gonna start working on it. But please don't call it great... I'm getting nervous. I'm as good at painting as a dead duck is at car driving. So the price is more a good laugh than a beautiful picture.

The painting is done now. I've mailed SilentMagik the picture, and I also put it on the web. He will decide if he wants to share the big prize! :)
Oh, and yes: this IS the best I can do... :lol:
 
I've now recieved the picture and I must say its really all that I hoped it would be and more! Here it is , allthough I'm keeping the special "limited" version for myself! :clap:
