Taking it slow. Meph was easy, but my valk doesn't seem to be doing so hot.
Had a small taste of doll explosions, that brought my ~180hp down to half O_o
Does not bode well for NM.

Nearly finished act 3. Was relatively straight forward. Had an amazing find in Durance lvl 1. Bearing in mind that this is a plague javelin amazon, I think that Trangs gloves is a really useful item. Puts poison damage up to over 6000. The only down side is that is has str req 58 (I think). I had to sacrifice some res and life, but hopefully not too much.

Well that went about as expected. Went through the entire Act III with minimal difficulty, and fairly quickly as well. Was almost at level 30 but decided that since I didn't have much problems with Duriel then Mephisto should be doable as well without the Valk. That battle lasted all of 5 seconds. My mercenary proceeded to tank Mephisto as planned and I stood behind him firing cold enhanced arrows. Mephisto unfortunately completely ignored my mercenary (no one else had done that yet up to this point) and took one step to the left to fire one of those cold balls at me. I was standing a tad too close apparently as I didn't have enough time to react and I was one-hit-killed. No chance at all. It was bound to happen and all I can say is that at least it took one of the prime evils to take me out rather than some mob of pint-sized minions.

Been a while since I've updated, seems like I missed a few pushers and a few deeds. Good to see people are quite buisy. I've completed normal just now at level 46. Nothing too special and only one mistake, as I completed everything in normal on p8 I entered the throne room on p8 too.. but I wasn't planning on a two hour fight. So I S&E, remade and did Baal and his minions (again) on p1. Wasn't much of a fight after that as I was wearing Cleglaws gloves (go go immobile Baal). I won't be running him this tournament, I'll probably go with NM Andy.

I'm not dead yet and again surprised about that. As you can probably see from my last activated waypoint, I've got a battle coming up that I'm not exactly looking forward to. I'll go and do some more Pit runs to scrounge up enough purple balls *cough* and courage *cough* to take on the three deadly old farts.

I've decided to make 'Smoke' for my merc to keep him from getting 'smoke'd. *boo, hiss*
I didn't make 'Smoke' for myself because I've grown quite attached to my valk-spitting 'Peace' corset.
Let me also tell you of some events that should've killed me.

- Lord de Seis decided to spawn extra fast, meaning that I nearly got myself surrounded (and probably skewered) by a horde of undead-on-speed. Fortunately, I clicked somewhere away from the pack as I jumped up from my seat and soiled myself in utter terror. I managed to spawn a valk in front of the crowd and LF'd them until they stopped twitching. I'll send the dry-cleaning bill to de Seis' widow.

- As usual, I tanked the act boss. Big D made me regret that decision, because with one of his hits my visible red was gone. Purple power to the rescue! I will re-evaluate my titan tanking tactics if I make it past Baal's minions.

- Act V provided several moments of pain (snakes, taurs, red-ball-chucking-thingies-that-belong-in-a-shoot-em-up), but the worst moment of hurt was encountered when I cast a decoy down a dark passage in the glacial trail. A mob of four champion eviltaurs charged their frenzy on the poor decoy and massacred their way through my valk and merc in seconds. The phrase 'run for your life' never sounded more apt to me. One of the bastards got in a few hits, each of them close to a one-hit-kill, and I drank all but one of my purples before I was able to run a circle towards my town portal. *ouch*

Moved into Act IV. Nothing scary to much dex keeps going up nicely. Stopped doing full clears in an attempt to speed the game up a little bit. Going to try and do a "safe" rush through Act IV and V in an attempt to get into Nightmare. Will then attempt to rush Nightmare.

Unfortunately my RL schedule is stopping me really getting a huge chunk of gaming done.

So I'm going to take a few days off from her. I'll do some homework, finish my character for Skunks Tourny, and maybe MF a little. By then hopefully I'll be ready to slog her on a bit more.

Good luck with the ancients by the way AJK. Dispite the fact that I wanna win I still hope you beat them, I really do! It would be impressive if you made it to guardian, and as I said before I still can't believe you've made it as far as you have! Nice work!

I have been playing with poison lately, so now Viper has entered Nightmare. Poison is fun! Except The last swarm before the Throne Room which seemed to be immune even though they didn't say so?! Fortunately I hadn't spent any skill points since maxing Plague Javelin so I could invest in some lightning as well. Bhaal was not really dangerous but tiresome, had to go and get new potions quite a few times, but at least the merc and valk survived. Unlike against Diablo who killed them in no time and I resurrected the merc maybe 10 times before I gave it a rest and just threw poison and ran in circles, but of course now the Valkyrie has more levels also. Did I mention than I think poison is fun?

Hp_Sauce, thanks for the link, it has given me some ideas. I have never made any rune word before (always selling or saving) but a helm (or circlet which looks better) with +1 to all skills will be very useful so I think I will make a Lore if I find an Ort rune again, I found some already but combined them to save space.

My only special equipment is Chance Guards Bracers and Nagelring (actually found two but the other had bonses that were not as good as the other ring - I thought the grey items had fixed bonuses but I guess not) and the yellow Maiden Javelin which does not replenish like the one before but it has bonus to all skills which I think is very good! Oh, and the merc has a Duskdeep Full Helmet which give resistances and more damage. He and the Valkyrie are not so fast at killing but with a little poison to help out they are much better.

After finally reinstalling d2 and spending lots of time wondering why players 8 wasnt working, I realized I was in v1.07 so I downloaded the latest patch from bnet and went to work with Dexboy. So far its been very easy and I've been going after +str items so I can get something besides plain boots and gloves. I've pretty much decided I wont be using a bow, as all that dex will give me max block with any shield, so I'll probably be doing LF or CS. I've only put points in passives right now, but I suspect that will change once I move out into act 2. I'll probably do a few andy runs then go on to act2.

Welp I got through Diablo on players 3 setting. Gave up on the merc and just ended up recasting valk until I could pluck away at him. Don't think I'll be making it much further based on my ineffectiveness vs Big D, but I'll keep trying. O yeah, Diablo was kind enough to drop some frosties which my newly made sorc will be very much enjoy.

Congrats AJK! That is very impressive! Nice work.

I'm really interested in your battle with the Ancients. I suppose CS probably helped a fair bit?

I sort of wish we had a prize to give you, but I suppose braging right will have to be enough?

Before my last progress update I expressed my fears of facing the ancients. Those fears were certainly justified. I had to TP out of the summit around ten times. Sometimes the old men rolled cursed, sometimes they rolled more than one LI, and most times they wasted the merc, meaning that I had to abort.
I had used up most of the purples I collected for the battle, and was about to call it a day when I went :idea: and proceeded to kick myself. I had totally forgotten about my poison tree. Hmpf, alright, one more try then.

I went through the TP, cast a valk, and woke up the dusty ones. Only the thrower was LI. No cursed, extra strong. Both melee-ers had mana burn. I can handle mana burn as long as my merc lives, so most potions were spent on him. After a lot of running around (the recurring theme of this tourney) spamming smelly green clouds the thrower threw up and quit. After some more green clouds and charged strikes, the jumper jumped back onto his pedestal. The remaining barb stood no chance.

I ventured into the WSK, cleared out the first level (yes, LF is still haxx), and proceeded to scout the second level. Gloams. Normally, lightning immunes get a healthy dose of bug spray, and then they go. Not the WSK gloams. They are LI-PI, meaning that I had to lure them out one by one to let my merc and valk get medieval on their wispy behinds. I managed that tedious task and scouted a bit further. Four (five?) streams of lightning entered my screen, went straight through me, and smoked most of my red bulb. I hit Full Rejuv. Another stream of death. No more juvies. Another visibly empty red ball.

I hit esc to pause. I looked at a blue 'zon and concluded that I got a big spoonful of hurt delivered by a multiple-element enhanced pack of gloams. I had two options: press esc again and die for certain, or Save & Exit.
As my guardianship shows, I went for the what some might call dishonorable option and lived. I had come this far, and couldn't bear losing my char a few steps before the throne. This has been the only S&E in the entire run to guardian.

Next day I shopped for some purples at the Pit and tried to reach Baal.
First attempt: I got mobbed by a pack of cursed taurs on WSK 2. I lost my merc and valk quicker than I could say omgwtfbbqmytanksarepwnd. With a few helpings of purple power and decoy, I ran to the stairs to WSK 1 and decided that going back was not an option.
Second attempt: Gloams nearly fried my when I made it down to the throne room.
Third attempt: Again, it wasn't easy to reach the throne (LI/PI skeletons, multiple guardian boss packs, OK's), but I made it. Baal's minions went down relatively easily, because Baal forgot to make them LI by default.

On to Baal, with only one juvvie left. Needless to say, it was a hectic fight, which lasted far too long for my taste (I'm spoiled by only playing ultra-twinked SC chars). I had to TP out more than ten times to refill potions/merc/get rid of the clone. I spammed poison, I Charged-Striked, I cast LF hoping that it would spawn a lvl. 15 valk at Baal's place. I got chilled, mangled by his appendages, mana-burned, screwed by the clone. It was a nasty fight, but I persevered and Baal went down, dropping a bit of yellow crap. Bastard.

So there she is, the first (and let's hope not the only) guardian in this contest. I will type up a guardian thread later with the relevant stats and skills, but food first. Killing Baal makes a man hungry. *grrr. gib meat*
I think I'll give my char a rest for a while, so other contestants can catch up with me.
 
Unbelieveable AJK, you have done what I couldn't do in this tourney. Then agian, I only got half way there to guardinship:rolleyes:. Do you mine posting what your life, rests, damage, ect, was?
