GG Dragon FOH Scepter failure

So after becoming inspired to build a DayDreamer Paladin I purchased a GG FOH War Scepter with +3 FoH, +1 Fantacism, and +1 Conversion (meh). After asking around numerous times I was set on the idea that you can socket white items multiple times to get the number of sockets you want on said item.

Tragically I went to Larzuk and excitingly put my new FOH stick on the socket menu and hit DO IT, I soon found out my item had 5 sockets when I required 4 sockets to make the Dragon runeword.

Is their no way to get the number of sockets you precisely need for a runeward? I was certain Larzuk only added 1 socket each time but found out the hard way.

Dragon? Dragon is a 3 rune runeword (Sur+Lo+Sol) that could only be made in body armors and shields.
Were you perhaps thinking of Hand of Justice?

Unfortunately, when you socket a white item using Larzuk's socket quest, you will always get the maximum number of sockets possible for that specific item.

I'm afraid not As Kinky said Larzuk will always add the max number of sockets the item can get, to have a chance at any other number of sockets you need to use one the cube recipe and hope you get lucky, since it's random (1/6 chance):

1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon = Socketed Weapon of same type

The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-6 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.

And I guess the repair cost of the scepter alone will be a pain too.
