Frozen armour or shiver armour for my blizzaed sorc?

Hi guys,

Just wondering which armour would be the best to invest a sinle point in...

Frozen or shiver??

Neither

Sorcs don't need extra defence, and the added freeze effects aren't worth it imo.

I agree, neither. The additional defense is added in as a percentage of your gear's defense, which is likely to be low, which means you won't see much benefit at all. Besides, you need the points elsewhere. If your Blizzard is (or is going to be) sufficiently strong, perhaps consider a backup attack instead.

That said, if you do go with one (on this char or any other), Shiver Armor wins hands-down, for four reasons:

1. It offers a better defense boost. Slvl x Shiver Armor offers a better boost than slvl x+3 Frozen Armor, except where x == 1, where they offer the same defense boost. Shiver Armor has three prerequisites, hence the x+3; this means that Shiver Armor is better in terms of benefit per skill point invested.
2. Frozen Armor freezes for a small duration, which is drastically cut in nightmare and Hell, whereas Shiver Armor's chill duration is pretty long if you invest points in it.
3. Frozen Armor won't freeze stuff unless it hits you. Shiver Armor will chill anything that makes a melee attack, whether or not it hits you. This means that when mobbed, the number of attacks against you over time tend to be cut more by Shiver Armor than by Frozen Armor.
4. Shiver Armor actually damages stuff. While it's a very small amount of damage, it's a lot better than the zero damage Frozen Armor offers.

I agree with the above. I used one on my first sorc (can't remember which one--the one that takes a second skill point to get ) and felt it was worthless. I didn't bother with it on my second sorc, and haven't missed it.

Shiver Armor will chill anything that makes a melee attack, whether or not it hits you.

Agreed with Shiver Armor (if any), and this is why, more than any other advantage. Related to this, SA chills things before their attacks hit, FA freezes after. It's a bigger difference than it sounds.

I'm just going to reiterate that I'm not saying you should get Shiver Armor on your current sorcy. It is a nice skill if you have lots of base defense, but it's utterly useless to you since a) your defense is probably low, and b) it's just more cold stuff. If they're not cold immune, you'll have no trouble with them, and if they are, SA won't really help. With big base defense, though, it can get you some pretty respectable defense totals, so keep that in mind if you ever play a melee sorcy.

defense throughout this game is greatly over-rated. Your best defense is not being hit. The only defense that matters if you insist on getting hit is one that reduces damage to a manageble level. Even if you only get hit 5% of the time, that means that eventually you'll get hit two or three times in a row, and if the damage isn't dealt with somehow, you'll die. Defense and block have this problem... eventually they must fail.

If you can manage a nice orb with +skills to one of the armors, you could use in on the switch with failed spirit monarch. I used that before I made CtA. SA was actually quite usefull when teleporting WSK, saved me from some nasty teleport deaths.

If you can manage a nice orb with +skills to one of the armors, you could use in on the switch with failed spirit monarch. I used that before I made CtA. SA was actually quite usefull when teleporting WSK, saved me from some nasty teleport deaths.

Nice advice, I don`t why I haven`t thought about that. After I lost my CtA to deeds I`ve been reluctant to run Baal, but this might be a small problem solver.
