From nothing to Powerful in 3 weeks.

Im completly new to diablo 2. This is not a boast but proof that you can easily solo hell and attain great items within about 3 weeks of playing from scratch.

I read the meteorb (great 1st ever character i reckon) guide from sasja and within 3 weeks of playing a few hours (3-5) in evening and 1hr in morning (leveling then mf runs) i had completed the game and could solo baal and got: occy/shako/ss/vipermagi/anni/gheeds/frostburn/silkweave etc. I found it easy up until hell then hit a wall for a while but re-read the guide and other posts on this forum and eventually began to survive and kill again. I then did some mf runs to get better gear (moat meph in mf gear).

My account was hacked and i lost it all sigh. I considered quiting the game. Instead i deleted my lvl 84 meteorb and just restarted from scratch.

3 weeks later:

lvl 88 meteorb - Full Tals/ss/Inferno stride/carrion ring/raven frost/magefist/anni/gheeds and my merc has reapers toll and upgraded durials. (i much prefer my 2nd versions gear as i love tals but if i ever get coh i might look at shako/occy etc again)

Im not stiking rich but i even have occy/archnids/shako/war travs/2 nagel/chancies and plenty more other sought after gear again within 3 weeks in my stash and about 3 mules full decent uniques.

I have a 300 ping. If anyone is struggling with this game just read meteorb guide and within 3 weeks you can have a powerful char (in my opinion - not godly but if she was more powerful i would not need to even try and that would not be fun). I did not cheat and only traded for a few items and didnt get twinked by anyone.

Many Thanks - sasja and the other mature and informed posters (you know who you are) on this forum who really have given me the info needed to play/understand the game and make it fun......I also avoided pitfalls by reading the posts so i didnt waste skill points etc.

Now i think ill look at cl/fo build or maybe the tri-elemental one :)

U got anni and gheeds and all that stuff with only a few trades starting from scratch in 3 weeks, how is that possible. It takes most people a year to get to that level from scratch.

Anni: I was diong mf runs (pit/andy/meph/pindle etc) and i saw soj counter go up twice (i was in a private game). I then thought maybe someone is selling soj's on this server so i left the game open for about 3 hrs (i constantly checked it every now and then and moved about to stop it loggin about). Eventually diablo walked the earth. I was lvl 86 at the time and used a lower res staff on dc and still couldnt hurt him enough before havnig to goto town for more potions and he would be back to full health. I sold alot of nice items to keep reviving my merc and get potions as i was determined to beat him.

Luckily a friend came on (necro) and he basically got his army ready then we both went at him for about 5 mins (i would never leave so he couldnt get health back) (i used a full inv of potions and was only droping meteor when mana recahrged) but the necro was doing well and alough he lost all skellies his golem was slowing enough for us to kill and i picked up anni (pretty average one but 10 exp).

I found a +1 assassin gc and traded for 34 gheeds (not perfect by any means but nice)

A note on dc - i swaped my merc reapers toll for bonehew as it had pmh - it didnt seem to have any effect whatsoever but atleast my decrep was not stoping the necros amp......

A year?
when i came back to D2 for 1.10 patch i started out in ladder from scratch.
it took me exactly 2 months to get hold of anything i needed for my build and for MFing. Also Anni came by quite fast, and Gheeds seemed to drop often enough.

3 weeks from scratch i would call quite a good time if you play it all through.

yah it took me about 1-2 months to gather by decent equipments for my chars too. Then again, I only play roughly 3 hours per day on average

Hehe I have a very similar story.

3 weeks ago I started on the 1.10 patch, I quit in 1.09, and I now have a lvl 86 blizz sorc and a lvl 84 ww barb. My sorc has full tals with cold facets, war travs, sojs, perfect chancies, lots of my charms including skills, etc, ya know the regular blizz build. My barb has gf, +2 valor, ss, arreats, etc. I did all this in 3 weeks.

However my "riches" have not come from mfing runs (so far they have yielded basically nothing with about 500+ mf) so much as it has trading all the time. Just last night at about 2:00 in the morning i traded a 290 for a Gaurdian Angel lol. I found it on an armor rack. :uhhuh: I basically make it a point to learn about the trading value of stuff and constantly work my way up. And although i dont have an anni's (i play non) i have helped my friends kill dclone easily 4-5 times so they can have one (im such a nice guy :thanks: ).

So i dont want any newbs complaining about how poor they are. Its not very hard to be ok at this game.

Once you get established you can start new chars all the time and get to lvl80 in a couple days. I have tried a lot of builds, and have plans for at least 3 going at a time... so keep collecting and experimenting and remember to have fun.

I dont get it, how do u guys get that good stuff so esaily. I mean i hav esome good stuff but the stuff u guys are mentioning, cold facets, sojs. I mean how especially if u dont mf.

you have to either mf or trade, preferably both. there are a few ways of getting good tradables without mf'ing:

1. crafting (my fav): blood gloves, blood rings, blood amulets, caster amulets are the most desirable, but hardest to get good rolls on. any recipie on a good wep (except stave) can result in a wep with over 300% ed, which is certainly tradable.

2. gambling: odds of getting a unique/set have been lowered, but are still possible. however, it is easier to get a +2 skills amulet gambling than it is crafting, and almost any rare ammy with +30 str and/or dex would go for a lot. max i believe is 30 str/30 dex. get a good gheed's charm, it will enable you to gamble 10% more.

3. rune hunting: hellforge, countess, or pop chests. hellforge gets the best runes, but takes the longest. countess gives the most runes, but the lowest level. popping chests is a good way to get money for gambling at the same time.

4. rushing: bosses get improved drops when somebody is on a quest, i believe most bosses are forced to drop set/unique/rare on a quest kill, regardless of your mf %.

is it just me or does playing 4-6 hrs a day seem excessive?

i'll agree that it isn't too terribly hard to get going, but playing that much? your guna burn out on the game. i usually play on average one hr a day which ends up being about 6 hrs on one wkend night plus another hr at some random time during the wk.

and there is a difference between being a noob and 'starting from stratch.' it took me 200 playing hrs (1.19 wks) to get my first character up and running (classic barbarian way back when). a good portion of that time was spent trying to get from lvl 27 to 30. i was in nm and i had a crappy weapon so i kept dieing.

It seemed that MFing until you get a few decent stuff, then do trades. Trading seem to be the fastest method to get good stuff

mathil - I was a complete beginner (I usually play counter-strike) and did this from scratch with no help and on a 300 ping - I agree I probably played to much but the game was new to me and i was instantly hooked :)

I got most of my nice gear doing meph runs quickly - I also did quite a few andy runs looking for a soj but no luck so far. I think ill try making blood items from what superhal said now and see if i can get any luck there....

I had to trade for tals ammy (+2 seraphs) and tal armour (nats claw/armour) but the rest I found pretty quickly.

complete beginner? u said u made a char and got hacked before the 3 wks started.

diablo II just starting strat

Step 1 :Make sorc
Step 2: Get to hell
Step 3: mf with sorc
Step 4: be godly!

yes sorcs are awesome first chars because they don't need expensive gear and can be relatively good many of my pvp sorcs use extremly common gear and still own.

Also with static field you can mf easily

For some reason the first time I read the above quote I thought he said "go to hell" in step 2 =)

sorry mathil maybe i wasnt clear. I began the game for the first time ever and had that setup after 3 weeks then my char was hacked and all stuff taken. I started again and within 3 weeks had all the stuff back.

Just as a matter of interest my acocunt was hacked the same day i signed up to this forum with same username password as my character (i know i could not av been more stupid lol) - now im not saying the admins from this forum did it but im wondering maybe a hacker or sumit can get the usernames/passwords from this forum somehow.........

My password was long and had numbers and letters and didnt mean anytihng relaly so was very hard to guess - i found most of the items so they where not dupe's going poof.......
