Explain the point of 'perming' to me

As I understand, a duped item will disappear no matter what regardless of anything the moment it enters a game with it's clone (i.e. item has same unid). So why then do people want to get permed upon exiting a game, just seems to me like a silly superstition. I just traded a lowly Spirit last night and the guy wanted me to perm him before he left (I hope he did this because he had other HRs, otherwise who would need a perm off of a lowly Spirit?).

Now I have followed this around for several years, and to date never really paid much attention to it. But as far as I know any item will disappear as a result of the passive rust storm that checks the id's of every item you bring in with other items. If two are identical then they both get erased. How clicking on the trade screen prevents that is beyond me.

It is just one of those superstitions. No-one knows how they start and no-one knows why everybody keeps on bringing them up. Ever have someone tell you not to use blizzard or equip ondals in a baalrun? Same thing.

It's still fun to force people into the trade screen and press the checkmark button.

You're not allowed to discuss this topic as far as I know.

Requesting perms is not allowed on this forum, and asking for perm methods is also discourged, but I see no problems with this topic.

And as mentioned above, perming is a myth. I've seen many cases of people who "permed" items and still had their disappear.

Well all I know is I try to perm my mana pots, but every bleeping time I hit the 4 key they poof!

Re: Explain the point of 'perming' to me

Perming is probably a bed time story made up by the dupers. As an example:

Buyer; but won't it go poof?

Seller: No no not at all, i'll show you a nice little thing you do and your dupe is "permed"

The world want's to be fooled is an old saying.

:D That really is how it probably happened. I don't think anyone besides a dupe peddler would make up that sort of thing.
