Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Everything comes in Pairs tournament.

So what is everything comes in pairs? A simple tournament that requires two of nearly everything to be used.

Find that nice Unique Axe? To bad, you haven't found it a friend yet.
Like using Battle Orders? Find it a friend while your at it in the Warcry tree.
You like raising your Strength? Better find it a friend and keep them both equal.

BASIC RULES:
  • Must choose SKILLS and STAT pairs before starting, optionally equipment pairs as well if you want a more difficult challenge.
  • Your character must be HC although it if you cant you may go SC, but a SC death disqualifies the character from further participation.
  • If your character dies, you may re-enter with another character. There is no limit to this rule, you may re-enter as many times as you wish.
  • Players can use versions from 1.10+
  • Rune Word Mod part of as FAM maybe used(as well as the colour portions too)
  • Any /players setting is allowed, and may be changed at will.
  • Single pass only (no re running of act bosses and areas).
  • You may return to previous acts and difficulties, however you may not leave town.
  • Atma may be used as an extended stash
  • Updates require: Current equipment pairs, stat point base, and Skills so people can see the good progress

SCORING:
To keep it simplified, we will go just off of waypoint. In the event of a tie and for further bragging rights the following will be used:
  • Pre-chosen equipment
  • Level
  • Total Experience

So how does this tournament work? You work in pairs with nearly everything in the game.

EQUIPMENT:

You have eight equipment slots not counting the weapon slots and switch. These four pairs can be of any type of quality, including the same as another one. Your weapon switches are a pair, you have to have the same quality of items equipped on each switch regardless of 1 or 2handed.

Quality levels for the tournament:
Normal: Plain items with or without: Ethereal, socketed, superior or low quality and Potions
Magical
Rare
Set
Unique
Crafted
Runeword
Example Given:
Helm and Armor: Magical
Ring and Gloves: Rare
Belt and Boots: Normal
Amulet and Ring: Magical
Weapon(s)/shield and Switch: Rare Hand Axe, Rare Poleaxe

STATS:

Vitality, Strength, Dex, and Energy follow the same rules. Chose two groups and each must have the BASE being equal with each other. NOTE: starting out your first stat points will be used to make each pair equal.

Example:
Vit/STR: Base 80
Enr/Dex: Base 40

SKILLS:

Each skill tree you choose two abilities. Each ability must be kept equal with each other and each must have a minimum of TEN to procede to place 11-20 points in any of the skill trees. *BASE only, +skills do not count*

Example:

Paladin:

Zeal/Holy Bolt: 5 each
Fire Aura/Sanctuary: 10 each
Prayer/Resist Fire: 8 Each

To raise higher than 10 skills need to look like this:

Zeal/Holy Bolt: 10 each
Fire Aura/Sanctuary: 16 each
Prayer/Resist Fire: 10 each

CHARMS:
A pair of each to use, no limit to size or total quantity.

Examples:

6 Small Charms
2 Grand Charms
0 Large Charms

2 Small Charms
4 Grand Charms
6 Large charms

MERCENARY

Each Mercenary must equip the same item quality in each slot unless it is an Act3 mercenary, at which case you must make two pairs due to having four slots.

CLARIFICATIONS:

Starter equipment maybe used until pairs are found.

Can I use other skills than the 3 pairs I choose at the beginning? No, you may only use your 6 skills. Choose wisely as each will have to be pumped a minimum of 10. You may not add to other skills for snyergy purposes either.

What if I choose a Bash and Whirlwind, does that mean I can place one in Bash, the pre-reqs for Whirlwind and then @30 finally put a point into Whirlwind? Correct, Bash will have to stay at level 1 until level 30(You can stagger skills so it would be 2Bash/1 Whirlwind)

CTC and Charges are allowed. Outside skills are not.

Magical, Unique, Rare, Crafted items may all be ethereal and/or socketed as well.

If before you start, you choose how your four pairs and your weapon switches will be in regards to quality, you many not equip the slots with anything else.

Skills you do not have to raise purely equally, but do have to at least stagger them. Effectively raising them as pairs.

Arrows are not a quality level and do not count as anything.

Nice, looks good!

I am a little occupied at the moment with my Certain Death druid, however, i will probably join some time in the near future.

I'll start the planning process soon!

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

OK, few questions:

Is GoMule accepted?

What if my character uses thrown potions and normal bow on switch, can I have normal shield with the potions as I have arrows on shield slot on switch.

What If I use magical bow with magical flail on switch, can I have normal shield with the flail?

Ulla

Gomule/Atma, same thing to me.

Potions would count as a Normal item(will update Normal with potions)

As for your Magical Bow on Main tab, and Magical Flail on second the shield will have to be magical as well. All weapon slots have to adhere to the same quality whether its 2, 3, or 4 items. (arrows don't count)

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

So I cannot use arrows?

Ulla

No, arrows don't count for anything. Arrows and Bolts are required by (x)bows. So you can use them, they just don't affect the pair as they really aren't equipment.

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Ignacia is already down, victim of a CE Fouldog.

I think I'll try a Golemancer next.

Harry Mudslinger
STATS: STR/ENG and DEX/VIT
Skills: Clay Golem/Golem Mastery, Poison Explosion/Poison Nova, Dim Vision/Lower Resists.

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

I'm interested in starting this but it will be my first tournament... are there any required reads or general rules of the road for all tourneys before I begin, besides whats in the SPF FAQ?

EDIT:

My character plan:

Druid

Stats: Vit/Str ; En/Dex

Skills:
Fissure/Volcano
Dire Wolves / Grizzly
Lycanthropy / Fireclaws

EDIT2: It just occured to me that this character is impossible, since I won't be allowed to cast werebear! Back to the drawing board, scratch that char.

EDIT3: I'll just try the same druid, with Werebear instead of Lycanthropy. Hopefully the low bear duration won't be too obnoxious...

Druid

Stats: Str/Vit ; Dex/En

Skills:
Fissure/Volcano
Dire Wolves/Grizzly
Werebear/Fireclaws

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

I thought about the same char type, but the low duration seemed a problem to me, though maybe a druid pelt with +3 lycanthropy and some other plus skills can help there...

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Yes... well 40 secs just seems too low for me after playing a bit with the char, so he committed suicide by dark archer.

New char2:

Barbarian

Vit/Str ; En/Dex

Skills:
Bash/Concentrate
Natural Resistance/Mace Mastery
Battle Orders/Shout

edit: had to make a 2nd one of these barbs after misclick on skills with the first... Also, have changed to mace mastery.

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

One question, if I use a two handed weapon, must I also have a same quality weapon on switch or could it be only a shield?

Doesn't matter. One slot can be empty on either switch, but both switches have to have at least something in them.

You can have:

2-hander
and shield with weapon empty.

1-hander
and
1hander on switch (effectively 2 empty shield/offhand slots)

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

ManAtArms walked on down to Andariel's little hideout in Catacombs IV and threw a volley of Pilums and Balanced Knives her way until she lay dead. Her corpse brought about a couple useless rares and a helm that maybe useful at some point in the future.

Only other notable drop was Bloodfist Gloves but I have yet to find anything to accompany it and I hope I do shortly!

STATS: 40 STR/ENR, 47Dex/48Vit

Skills: 4 in Double Throw/Double Swing, 1 in Howl and Throwing Mastery. 6 point unused.

Equipment:
Rare: Helm/Belt
Rest: Magical
Mercenary Act2 Desert: Magical

Code:
Character Forum Name Class Act Waypoint
--------------------------------------------------------
ManAtArms Vang Barb A2 Lut Gholein
Ignacia Haerviu Sorc A1 Rouge Camp

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Well its time I get back to my roots and start playing some sp (Ladder seasons is getting way old). And what better way to begin than with a sp tournament.

My roommate told me to play a sorc. Damn him.
Not really ideal for this type of tourney.

Name: Midori
Class: Sorc
Stats: Strength/energy and vit/dex
Skills: Static/Teleport, Ice bolt/Iceblast, fire wall/fire mastery

ice bolt/blast will be leveled until I can get firewall/mastery to dish out some damage. high level tele and static will be handy.

maybe I can make this work.

If I did a sorceress it would of been a similiar build, static and teleport, firewall and mastery seem to go hand in hand for this tournament, leaving cold up to the player to decide on early or late game help.

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Well that sorc died. Partly my fault partly my roommate being a **** and a pack of ghostly archers. I played non hc, but I of course am retiring her.

Yeah the build I think is a solid approach. Using light for anything but tele and static seems really painful. Getting glacial spike for the cold tree would be better than ice blast, but I dont think I would have the patience to wait till level 18 to get a killing skill.

In the meantime, I've started a new char.
Name: Garbad
Class: Pally
Stats: dex/energy, str/vit
Skills: sacrifice/zeal, might/holy freeze, redemption/resist cold (not sure yet)

so far full cleared to darkwood and rescued cain on players 8. gear is basically all magical :( and 2 2handed axes both with almost the same stats on main wep and switch.

anyway, its bed time, more later.

UPDATE:
Garbad semi cleared everything down to Andy. She was a little hard on players 8 but I took an antidote potion and it was fine.
Currently in act 2 sewers.
Level: 20
Skills: holy freeze 2/might 2, vengeance 6/zeal 7, cold resist 1/ salvation (will get it at 30 and pump cold res along with it.) 1 skill point left.
stats: Str 55, dex 35, vit, 55, ene 35
Gear:
Magic flail/Magic kite shield with bonus to blocking.
White helm/white ring mail filled with chipped rubies.
magic ammy/magic belt both of no consequence.
magic left ring and magic gloves of no consequence.
Magic ring/magic boots.
2 large charms with light damage.
2 small charms with cold and fire damage.

act 2 merc with all rare gear.

No notable finds but for a low level rare ring and obnoxiously large amounts of gems.

Hows everyone else doing? eager to hear more about that lycanthropy-less druid.

Re: Everything Comes in Pairs Tournament

Okay, I'm game.

Name: Pear (Assassin) (I'm a sucker for bad puns)
Stats: str/dex, vit/nrg
Skills: Tiger Strike/Dragon Tail, Fade/Shadow Master, Lightning Sentry/Death Sentry

I haven't played HC in a long time, and when I did play HC I never survived beyond Act 2 NM, so when you start laughing at my "deeds," do so gently.

So far: /players 8, reached level 9, but haven't spent any stat or skill points yet. Pear finished Blood Moor and Den of Evil, and now she is in the cave in the cold plains, hoping to pay Coldcrow a visit soon. Quickly found and equipped the following pairs:
Another normal katar and buckler on weapon switch to match starting gear
Normal quilted armor (2os)/normal cap (2os)
Normal gloves/normal sash
Amulet of Regeneration (repl. life +2)/Boots of Dexterity (+1 dex)
Crimson Ring of Light (10AR,5%fr)/Crimson Ring(5%fr)
There are some jewels and chips in the stash, but I haven't put them in sockets yet because I'm not sure how they fit in the "pairs" rules. What do you think?
