Etdlahq Memorial Bar - your shelter from forum crashes

Get a strong vacuum cleaner or source of air under pressure and blow in the fan hole .. or any other holes in your laptop. This is the way its done the pro way (friend of mine worked in the repairs department of one PC shop) ;)

I do it by simply dissassembling the computer and vacuum clean it with the soft brushy thingie, but this cen get the warranty vioded and damage the internals when you screw up ...

Hallooo bar.

Day two of self-indulgence, retail therapy and excessive alcohol consumption. Got some dope threads in a wicked trendy shop - brands like Iron Fist, Silver Star and FSAS. Spent a fair few pennies, may have to wire some more funds to my account to fund this decadent indulgence.

A beer for everyone on Durf.

So, uuuh *takes a sip from his beer*... D2 talk is OK around here, right?

[Blah]
I'm back playing Diablo 2 for a while, and I'm focussing on playing some untwinked build for a change. You see, previously I spent hours and hours trying to get OMGWTF items and make builds with them... only to find out that when the build is finished, I don't enjoy playing them.

So I'm making an Avenger (yeah, I know...) right now. Level 27 in Act 3 now, and it's starting to look up. I found an Rixot's Keen very early on, and I replaced it at the end of Act 3 with a Steel in a Crystal Sword. Just found an ethereal Pike with 4% life leech for my merc.
[/Blah]

So ANYWAY, on to my question, I'm thinking about making a King's Grace (3os Swords/Scepters). What kind of weapon should I put it in? I figured a slow but heavy hitting weapon would do, since Vengance uses so much MP per swing. What are your thoughts?

Don't you know that in this bar we don't ask game questions, boy?

But as it seems that you're some kind of green horn, Ill let it pass if you take this tequila shot with me. :guiness: Down the hatch.

Try to find a gray scepter that has three holes and as many supporting skills as possible (3 times +3 is max, but good luck finding one). Akara or Drognan in Normal might sell you one.

Is anyone else drunk? JayGun? Will anyone else amuse me?

Having a crazy time in Cardiff. Drinking far too much and watching mildly obtuse comedy series with my sister. Probably watch a bit of Fight Quest when she goes to bed, to get some testosterone machismo out of my system.

My beer tastes like rubbish, but I deserve it for buying cheap beer.

Well, I hadn't started drinking yet, and didn't plan on drinking, but since you mentioned it, FE, and since Durf's buying, I'll have a LongHammer! :guiness: Yum.

I'm glad to hear you're having a grand old time in Cardiff, FE! Clothes buying and hanging out with the sis sounds like loads of fun (even though I have no siblings, I can sort of imagine). But you really need to work on the your beer choices. . . :D

In case anyone's interested, here's my report on day one of serious, committed apartment-hunting:
Attempt the First: found a nearby locator service via google maps. After some time spent in paralyzed, irrational fear, I hopped in the car and drove over there. 5100 Spring Street (let's call it). Now I turned on to Spring St. at 6300 and started motoring down to find 5100. Good times. 6200, 6100, 6000, 5900, 5800, 5700, 5600, 5500, 5400, then a highway, then 4800, 4700, 4600. . . Grrr. I turned around. 4600, 4700, 4800, highway, 5400, 5500. . . ugh. Back to the house, re-check google, still listed at 5100 Spring. Check the yellow pages: 5100 Spring.

Attempt the First: FAIL.

Attempt the Second: Called Locator Service #2, got a guy named Bill on the phone (not his real name), explained what I was looking for and where I wanted to live. He said "Great! I'll call you back with some options in 20 or 30 minutes!" I said "Groovy, Bill, talk to you soon!" and went back to the lappy to wait. (While I waited, I moved on to Attempt the Third: see below).

After an hour, Bill called back: "Sorry, I got a bit busy, but I didn't forget about you and I'll be in touch in 15 minutes or less." Ok. 25 minutes later: "Here's two and I'll get back to you later with some more." Great. So I went and looked the places up online. Close to where I want to live, and the right price, but in an absolutely wretched part of town: multiple break-ins, crack-house adjacent, etc. But I'll likely check them out anyway, since I'm not horribly picky. Groovy. So I took a nap.

Just as I drifted off, "Bill here, with 3 more!" Great. I took down the info: well over my absolute maximum price point (by at least 20%), in a great part of town, brand-spanking new with all lux-cons (granite, stainless, etc.). Definitely not my thing: Live Simply, That Others May Simply Live, and all that. But since I'll likely be checking out the nasty places, maybe I'll check a couple of these out too, just to see how the yuppies live these days. Who knows.

Attempt the Second: as yet unresolved, but doubtful.

Attempt the Third: So while I was waiting for Bill to call the first time, I went online to another locator and filled out a little info sheet. While waiting for Bill to call the second time, I got a call from Shiela (also not her name). She asked about 55 questions, getting more and more specific all the time, and sounded like she pretty much understood what I wanted: small complex, quiet neighborhood, older property, cheap, some mod-cons (cable internet, W/D connections, central heat and air), etc. She also didn't balk at my location indecision, and in fact suggested a couple of other similar areas that I was indeed interested in. She also sounded like she has quite a bit of expeirience (she claimed 20+ years), and could help out quite a bit. I should expect an email from her (hooray for email! No scribbling down addresses and whatnot over a poor cell phone connection!) later tonight or tomorrow morning with 10-20 possibilities.

Attempt the Third: as yet unresolved, but hopeful.

So now I drink. I hope to have something cooking by lunchtime tomorrow. *fingerscrossed*

Ah bad luck J6. House hunting can be a pain. But one day is .. a start. Not the end. I don't quite understand your locator service. Here you just ring an estate agent or check the local papers. I imagine it's a similar thing. Although with less competence by the sound of it. :D

Reminds me of the start of my last round of house hunting. I'm the customer from hell (don't all be surprised at once) and had specific requirements; locale, bedrooms, price, drive space etc. I explained them to one agent and he didn't even get close to any of them. I returned the details he handed to me and walked out. I do not have the patience for people who cannot follow instructions.

Disappointing day today. Had the opportunity for a free meal and both the local Indian and Chinese were closed. Wound up with a kebab. A very nice kebab but not the Dupiaza or Kung Po I fancied. Hey ho.

At least now I have Ferero Rocher, so tea please. :)

Yay for JayGun. After some recent personal defeats I'd indeed mark that as a personal celebration, and a cause for drinking!

I do need to work on my beer choices. Maybe if I didn't spend £320 on clothes I could afford decent beer. Ahh, the trade-off...

Speaking of the sister, a previous time I was down we went to a comedy club (in the front row) and I was told that it wasn't cool to go out with my older sister, which was very funny. I'm seeing the same comedian next year (also front-row seats) with Samantha. I wonder if he'll remember me.

Your post just makes me want to visit you and TRM even more. You guys are da bomb.

EDIT:

I'm the customer from hell (don't all be surprised at once)

That's funny stuff. Also, Ferero Rocher is horrible stuff. Have a cookie or something.

Fereros are my favorite!! <3

Still playing Uncharted Waters 2, with no real D2 itch even after visiting the forums. Promising step toward RL productivity, I guess.

Excuse me while I edit the SPF Rules. New bannable offence; insulting Ferero. Makes a change from being good at finding runes.

Bet you don't like Toffiffee either. Heretic. Ye shall burn at the stake. Or at least be a long way from the chocky in the fridge.

I never was a fan of cookies. I'll eat Maryland and M&S Chocky chip sometimes but nothing beats chocky and nuts. I like crunching nuts. :) Don't all be surprised at once at that either.

Mind you, what can you expect from a man who enjoys clothes shopping. Hey, maybe I could hire you as a personal shopper - I hate trogging round for clothes. There you go; a new opportunity awaits.

What the hell is toffififififififfifiee? What normal female doesn't like cookies? Trick question, normal female is an oxymoron - all women are crazy!

I enjoyed clothes shopping today because shops in Cornwall are terrible. Also the nice sales girl hit on me and told me I look good in everything I picked up (I did, to be fair). After speaking with you on Skype that one time, and comparing it to your forum presence, I'd be far too scared of you to be your personal shopper.

I'm just glad I provoked you to post more than once before you ran away with your cup of tea out the double doors, screaming "Durf'll pay!"

EDIT: Also, Thy's love of crunching nuts is far too blatant a metaphor to ignore. If I wasn't so drunk there'd be a killer punchline worthy of a banstick.

I can only hope that the killer punchline does not tie into your avatar in anyway. Now before this turns into a bad Carry On Thread ...

Nothing wrong with my Skype presence. I really was trying to restrain my language. I just happen to have a rather expansive grasp of English profanity. I always fancied learning other languages but I have zero aptitude for it.

Now speaking of profaning across languages; Polgara in The Seeress of Kell awaits me.

I never bring my avatar into faux virtual arguments. I loved your Skype presence, it was honest and refreshing, it just scared me every second that I was talking to a mod, THE mod (sirpoops is a wimp compared to ye, oh great one). Once I got over that, it was a lot of fun. Profanity is fun, I for one use it for emphasis, although some still look down on this, it's far better than most of my generation (and younger) that use them as linking (or worse, replacement) words.

Polgra Series Kill who? CBA wiki what?

This is a bar? I'll have one of JayGun's fancy big beers. Or an Eden Ale, whichever's closer.

I've actually never had a ferrero. . . or a toffifiiflfifiitififiififiififiiififiififiifiifiiii. But if either of them are like a Heath: yum.

And when I call Bill back to tell him what I think of the places he suggested, I'll be very polite, but make it clear that I no longer require his services. . .

And, as to apartment hunting in Dallas (and unlike anywhere else I've lived): 1) There is no culture of house-rental or room-rental around here (or not much of one). There are, instead, large groupings of apartments, owned largely by real-estate corporations somewhere. 2) Newspaper ads, Craigslist, and the like are full of lies and misleading information. 3) Real Estate agents charge $ to find apartments for individuals. 4) So we have these Apartment Locator services: realtors who have a strong familiarity with apartments in various areas help individuals find apartments. Their fees are paid out of the advertising budgets of the various apartment complexes, and they usually are able to find very good deals (month(s) free; $$$ off rent for some number of months; $ for moving costs or a moving company; and the like). It is teh suxxorz, but hell. There's not much other way to operate in BigD.

Back in IL, I drove around for an hour or so, stopping every time I saw a for rent sign to ring the bell and have a look at the place. I rented the third one I saw.

On LI, I looked at Craigslist for about an hour one morning, refreshing the page every few minutes while I drank coffee. Just when I was about to take a pause and go for some brunch, I saw a post for something that sounded interesting. I called, drove over, and realized it was a basement apartment with 6'5" ceilings (I am 6'2+") and had various plumbing pipes and electrical wiring running through space. I went back to the hotel, checked Craigslist again (fully intending to google up a brunch spot), saw a recent post, called the guy, went and looked, wrote him a check, took the keys, and started unloading the Subaru. Easy.

So. I'll have another LongHammer. Mominem are watching their stories (yuck), and I'm not in the mood for D2, so maybe I'll watch some far left wing docu-somethings online and get quietly drunk. Good times.

Edit:
In case anyone's interested, I spent the last ~2 hours watching short films about protest and activism, followed by multiple viewings of Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. A bit of discontinuity there, but I just *had* to watch the videos nominated for this year's VMAs, and after being mesmerized by Beyonce's thighs, then shutting off Taylor Swift after about 25 seconds, I found myself unable to stop watching Gaga. Good times, though I feel a bit silly.

And another LongHammer for the JayGun. I'm about to go flip channels on the tele for an hour or so before calling it a night.

That whole quote, along with some comments from FE as well, seemed to resembe Polgara to me. Maybe it's because I'm almost through Polgara the Sorceress, but that had the presence of Polgara through it.

And I laughed when I read FE's avatar relating to his obvious metaphor and that line of conversation too.

Do you know if The Mallorean follows the story of The Belgariad, or are they a different story in the same world, with generally different characters? I'm wondering if I should pick them up as well (I probably will at some point though, but have a lot of books to get through at the moment.)

Edit: For the mods (if they decide to observe this - I'll probably send a PM later) - this post too had an advertisement - same website, but different text slightly. But not all of my posts come up with one. I'm going to scan for trojans now.

I'm currently using Ad-aware and NOD32 to scan, with Spybot S&D. Does anyone have any experience with those? I'm beginning to dislike NOD32 and Ad-aware because they never seem to find anything. Spybot has picked a few things up though.

*sigh* My GF took personal offense to her bosses actions yet again, and her mood went from "my life sucks" to "REVENGE!!!" I just hope things get resolved quickly. I'm not blaming her in any way since she's getting crap slung at her from just about every direction, but I'm really effing sick of her mood lately. Endure. It can't be this bad forever.

You know what hits the spot when you're feeling blue?
Answer: The SPF. Geez! Between Thy's nut-crunching and demanding attitude in RL, FastE's fear of her and his Thy v. poops analysis, and JayGun implicitly daydreaming about female pop stars, I ended up laughing out loud at work three or four times. I'm so glad to be here. :grouphug:

@JayGun: Awesomeness about finding that apartment locator that was asking a ton of questions. If she wants all that info, sounds like she'll be taking your every want & need into consideration. All the best!

@Drys: I've got Ad-Aware on my system, but I think it's completely useless, too.

Coffee for me. I gotta do a grocery store run sometime after work, so I'll be back at the bar then for sure.

Whoops, my bad. I thought this was that real life/d2 thread. *Gulps the tequila shot*

Uuuh...

*Has another beer for the hell of it*

I wonder if Eddie has sobered up yet. I hope you drank a lot of water or your dehydration is going to be a total :censored: I remember MPing with Catt once a long time a go. I know what you mean. :D

Congratulations on the apartment J6. Odd how those random and off the cuff decisions can pan out. :)

The Mallorean follows on from The Belgariad. It has many of the same characters and the storyline follows on. Obviously there are some new characters and a different plot; I'm trying not to give too much away. If you liked The Belgariad, it is absolutely worth reading. The Seeress of Kell is book 5 of that series. :) Anyone still confused; David Eddings. The Belgariad is one of my favourite possessions (purchased on a whim).

I was never particularly keen on Polgara, I felt she was often cruel. There is a quote somewhere in The Belgariad about her stripping bark from a tree. That was amusing.

I stopped using ad-aware because I didn't like the look of it after they revamped it. I didn't like Nod32. I know a couple of SPF'ers use it. At the moment I'm using Avira and Spybot S&D from Safer Networking. I did like Panda which has a online free scan option. Only reason I didn't keep it was that it wasn't free. :D

And this early in the morning, I'll help myself to some tea.

It's just that I'm almost through Polgara the Sorceress, and she frequently mentions such 'colourful language,' whether referring to Beldins, Belgaraths, or her own use of the varied colourful speeches in various languages.

Possibly part of this phrase reminded me of various sections of the book:

I'll definitely have to get my hands on The Mallorean in the near future then. :)

@Thy/TRM - thanks for the antivirus opinions.

@Thyiad - The added advertisements on my posts were likely my computer. I had several trojans and malware, and will be scanning/updating over the weekend to try to catch any that may remain. Those trojans were probably the cause, and I'll send a PM later as a confirmation to 'poops as well.
