And I'll have yet another LongHammer. I probably need to find a new usual, but. . .
The stash giveaway is going well. . . down to 3 remaining stashes. I said I was going to have me a restart, but I never thought it was going to be so soon. Two restarts and full giveaways in less than 6 months: gotta be a record.
And it's pretty much assured that I'll be purchasing a new macbook in the very new future. This little *beauty* has cost me more than its purchase price in repairs (despite the full, 3 year warranty: best in class by consumer reports like 8 years running), and I'd rather drop a bunch of cash now on a new one that hopefully won't have as many problems, than stick with this one and dole out ~$100/month to use it (which is pretty close to what I've paid to keep it repaired and in working order since I purchased it). Now, admittedly, most of the macbook's problems were due to forces outside its control (ie: kitty dumping water on it), but after that, after everything (and I mean everything except the screen) was replace. . .twice and sometimes 3-8 times, I'm done. No more money will be spent on this little beauty. Instead, I'll spend a bunch of money on a lappy that shouldn't have as many problems. :yes:

Edit: and I've begun working on a new sept. . .tentatively modeled around the X-men of the late 1980s and early 1990s (when I read/collected comics, some of which I still have, not that they're worth anything). I have ideas for 6/7 toons, but can't really find a fit for some of them. So I thought I'd put it out to the bar first, since I may or may not ever start up another sept.
So:
Amazon: no idea (I'd prefer a Bow-based or Jav-based toon, but neither builds fit the theme)
Assassin: either Rogue (heavy investment in MB with traps) or Psylocke (MB again, but more MA oriented, obviously), or a female Wolverine (Wolverina? is there a comic char like this? I seem to recall one, but. . .Edit: yep. Her name is X-23, but one of the others fits the toon much better. . . and I'll be making a MA sinner for the socket tourney anyway.)
Barbarian: Banshee, a singer (you know I'll have trouble with a toon like this, and would far prefer a Frenzy-based build)
Druid: Beast (Fury/FeralRage)
Necromancer: Gambit (Bonemancer)
Paladin: maybe Iceman? (frost Ranger? But that would be boring, since I just took a Frost Ranger to A1 NM and lost him to HD crash, and this would make a big pile of ranged toons)
Sorceress: Storm (duh: CL/FO)
Any thoughts? It's likely that I'll not do the sept the same way again. . . probably one at a time as tourneys allow, and will likely twink within the sept, but not from outside. . . so I could make the Sorc first and go from there.
But this is entirely tentative and I'm extremely open to new ideas, for sure.
Anyway, another LongHammer, please: it's time to read some more about old comic toons. Good times!

You can't imagine my sense of loss and perturbation at the hard disk crash. . . I love this lappy. It's been an absolute workhorse: got me through 30-odd 10+ page essays in grad school; my thesis; my D2 return and introduction to the SPF and all that it brings; the growth of my music collection from ~60GB to well over 140GB; my discovery of good beer; one move from Illinois to Long Island, and another from Long Island to Texas; and, most importantly, my transformation from pot-smoking drunk to intellectual/contemplative/art-historian/activist drunk.
But with 5 logic boards (only one due to misuse: the cat pouring water on the lappy); 3 superdrives; 4 hard drives; 3 cases; 4 USB bridges (with USB/Firewire, Audio, Video, Ethernet, etc. ports); and 3 batteries; and since it now needs a new battery that I'll likely have to pay for, it's time to say goodbye: teh suxxorz, even though I've been talking about buying a new lappy for several months.

Hey come on! Some of us are working! Okay, 50 minutes left, but I guess I have to get some sleep, because I did last night the full night shift and still a little tired from that.

Sorry to hear about the lappy, I just lost mine, and all the progress I made with a Holy Fire Paly and a Polearm Zerker. At least I had backups... I also have characters modeled after the X-Men, so you're not alone...
Wolverine/X23: Dragon Claw sin with maxed DC and TS. Atma's Scarab to break PIs. Just entered Hell.
Iceman: pure Frost Zealot using Voice of Reason and Nightwings Veil, conviction to break CIs, and Demon's Arch (whatever the unique jav is) on switch for unbreakables...
Also doing a 2H sword PDR fanatic zealot named Wade (after Deadpool, my favourite comic character EVER). Both have just entered Hell.
Storm: charged boltress (you've got lots of options here... anything but fire...)
I had a Gambit char, insight Charger, but lost interest and deleted him... if you go bone necro, make sure he uses insight staff (only staff I can think of that he'll benefit from... Razorswitch until then...) CE actually kinda fits the build... As long as he uses a staff... though Teeth kinda look like cards...
If you want to go Frenzy on your barb, go with Quicksilver (stock up on FRW items and go for [highlight]MAXIMUM FRW[/highlight])
There's Wolfsbane for your Druid (she was technically a New Mutant before she was a X-Man, and now she's on X-Force), but it's essentially a Fury Druid.
As for your Zon... you could go Domino [or Hawkeye, who's an Avenger] (strafer, but tweak it somehow...), Shadowcat (max DAE skills and make her a ZealZon with Passion(UNTOUCHABLE)) or Magma and make a pure Fire Zon. Maybe try Surge (she's new, a young X-Man) and go Charged Strike or Lightning Strike and lots of FRW items...
I spend WAAAAAYY tooo much time reading comics these days...

So. I had my computer purchase down to two models. So I went to a mac forum that I lurk around on every now and again, registered, and posted a description of 1) my problems with this mac; 2) needs/wants/must haves for a new lappy; 3) the two choices I was down to; 4) and two questions ("Are the extras worth the ~$200?")
The first reply?
A guy posts a lengthy rant about how expensive macs are, then gives me specs on a Dell compared/contrasted with the lappy I'm thinking of buying. Can I get a "Jackass"?
1) I posted the question in a forum that is part of a prominent mac news/reviews/etc site.
2) I do some work in CS3 (photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, flash, acrobat), which I described in my original post. My version of CS3 is for Macs.
So can I get a "Jackass!"

I'm a hypocrite. I bought 8 cans, it was on special offer.
Work rant:
So work has finished, and as much as I despise certain colleagues and wish to sink to their level of rudeness to give them a taste of their own medicine... I can't, I'm just too nice of a guy (and also I'm a manager, which means I seem to be disciplined faster than standard staff and the BM doesn't like me, so I'd definitely get a warning).
The store got a complaint from Head Office on my shift because some [expletive deleted] of an ex-employee didn't want to be charged extra for certain condiments in his sandwich. After dealing with this and getting my side of the story the BM makes a nice big poster detailing her version of store policy (when previously there was no iteration of store policy) and is directly aimed to make me feel very small. It didn't.

Sorry you spilt beer on it! I have to agree eddie people like that are ****s its one of the reasons i ended up quitting my job... im too nice a person to say something to anyone then it bottles up so im glad i did even tho the person left 2 weeks later
