Etdlahq Memorial Bar - your shelter from forum crashes

Ugh. So I headed out to visit some local museums/nonprofit arts groups, stopped by the post office, then got lost. Then came back here and realized I was hungry, ate something, and now am finding it impossible to head out again. I'm not scared, nervous, or anxious, but am feeling strangely inert, immobile. Jeez. Maybe some ice cream and a nap, or a nap followed by ice cream will perk me up. If not, I'll likely join TRM in hitting the beer in the mid afternoon.

@Neks and MLM: Yay for you guys . I don't really get recreational drug/alcohol use.

Warning, abit too honest paragraph ahead.

My therapist once said that I have very high requirements for other people. Makes it hard to like people :O

Today I see that it is infact so. A girl from the hospital from a couple years back wrote me on skype, and after a short chat I found out I don't find her nearly as interesting as before, because she doesn't take meds exactly as the doctor ordered, and likes wrestling(we had a little discussion aobut wrestling/UFC and she didn't seem to think my opinion meant anything).

EDIT: I'm sporting a fresh headache aswell.

Is this house the one you grew up in? How far away from home were you when you felt lost?

Being lost is one of my biggest fears in life (spiders is still #1, though). From the time I was born until I left Maine, all my residences were within a 90 square mile area, so I knew everything; stores, streets, which lane I needed to be in four blocks ahead of time when driving around.

It was totally weird for me to move to a city that I had never visited before. The first two months I was here, I never left the apartment alone because I never knew if I would find my way home. I got so tripped out the first time I drove just three miles away. I'm more comfortable with the city now, but still whenever I'm in a neighborhood I've never seen before I start to get nervous. I'm constantly trying to determine n/e/s/w... and I always end up totally turned around. But I'm still here!

And BTW, I'm three beers in and going strong. I'll take another cerveza, por favor.

edit: I doubt I could tolerate too many people who enjoyed professional wrestling, either, so don't feel bad. I kind of equate it to male soap operas/daytime television. ...But both my GF and my father watch(ed) them, so maybe my tolerance is higher than I think. UFC is interesting in a technical sense, but I won't go out of my way to watch it. Especially now that Brock Lesner (sp) is in the business.

Good luck shaking that headache. We've got some random pills behind the bar that may help...

Whats wrong with Brock Lesnar? I'm not up to speed on current UFC happenings. Yet.

I watched a video on google of Cung Le versus Frank Shamrock. That was something different.

To me, it bridged the gap between professional wrestling and the UFC. Whoever the head of the UFC is, he has always had a vision of straight, full contact, and legitimate fights without sensationalism or grandiose one-up-manship. But Brock is a former professional wrestler. The only news I've had of his fights was his barbaric celebration, cursing out the crowd, and giving obscene gestures. He has since apologized to the sport, but... still. I'm sure he's a great overall fighter in terms of power and skill, but has been trained to be a spectacle, and I think it's bad for the UFC's overall image. Maybe this tiger can change his stripes, though...

What I think is worse for the UFC, though, will be the day someone dies in the octagon. I know it's happened in boxing a few times... but we live in a very sensitive world in this day and age. It's like if some kid died in a paintball session; no kid would ever have access to a paintball gun again because society would stop selling and providing them to minors.

Um.. anyone else think I need a beer? I do! :D *ramble ramble ramble*

I do martial arts. Stickfighting(philipino martial arts). It seems to me like sticks are a much more civilized way to strike than punches and kicks. Sure, they're weapons, but they don't make your face cave in. As much :D

In regards to that, how effective is stickfighting in terms of incapacitation? Donatello the ninja turtle was a great character, but was his weapon choice an effective means of keeping his foes from getting back up and attacking? I assume it's not as debilitating as a slashing/stabbing weapon, but in your opinion if you were to retaliate against someone assaulting you could you wreck someone bad enough that they'd stay lying down rather than them running away?

Beer, please. Number six is calling me (and I'm not referencing "The Prisoner").

Nope. Not the house I grew up in (there were two: the first is owned by a guy I worked with about 15 years ago; my aunt and uncle live in the other). When I was 17 and fresh out of High School, momma kicked me out and moved to PA. Then she moved back and bought this place.

I wasn't lost, per se . . . in fact, I knew exactly where I was, I just had no idea where I was going. I had an address (which I couldn't find) on a street (which I could). . . I drove up and down looking for the number, for a sign, for a parking lot, anything, with no luck. Ends up (I looked at the pictures on Google maps), it looks like the entrance/parking for the place is on a different street, but the mail box is on the street I was on. . . Jeez. I bet I could find it now, but I'm too interested in trying to finish A5 with a tourney toon. . .

Just took out Nilly and co with no trouble. In fact, I drank one healing pot (super healing, actually) one time, after a hit from a Frenzytaur took life down by ~1/10. Other than that, he didn't get hit, except by the curses from those Harpie things. EASY.

Watch out Ancients, here comes RangerRick!

And, imo, there is little difference between pro wrestling, boxing, and ufc. One or more is fake; participants sustain long-term injuries; they all get cauliflower ear from bacteria on the mat (yuck); fans come explicitly to see people beat each other up, and to gamble on the winner. All in all, the stuff is completely uninteresting to me. I've got nothing against any of the participants, the sports, or the fans: it's just not my thing.

Good work with Ranger Rick! He's seeing a lot more wildlife than your last tourney characters (or even your sept, for that matter!).

I find google.maps to be pretty unreliable. There have been a lot of times I've relied upon that site, and it's let me down quite a few times. Then again, I've also found that city life is rather frustrating sometimes; trying to locate a street address from the actual street can be all but impossible at times.

It's funny, I was just talking about this with my GF. I was looking for a post office to mail out a bill the other day, and I said to her I wished programs like google.maps also told you other businesses around it so it was easier to locate. She looked at me like I was crazy. I still think I'm thinking ahead of the times.

Although it's on its way out and my apparent distaste for wrestling/UFC, I like boxing. It's brutal and violent, sure. But there's a lot of skill and dexterity involved. To me, it's a lot like American football and that Chumbawumba song from the 90's. But there's also the element of hand-to-hand combat that Pijus is talking about; it's fighting, but it's civilized. Way better than a war zone.

edit: After a cigarette break outside, I have an extraneous comment to make that maybe JayGun can confirm: HOLY $%!#, the Texas sun at 4pm is incredible! This is more the Mainer in me talking than the exterior drunkard talking, but WOW, that's freeakin' hot! I've been happy that I work overnights on more than one occasion, but DAMN! I can't imagine being outside on a regular basis in weather like this. It's a disgusting feeling; I stood in the same position outside for seven minutes with my backside on the shady side, and when I sat down just now my clothes were so hot my posterior felt like it had been in boiling water.

Anyone else see a trailer for the new movie "Gamer"? Looks... over the top. Like "The Running Man."

Yep. 4pm sun in TX is brutal, but not quite as bad as 5pm sun. . . Unlike anywhere else I've lived or been, it's hottest in TX between ~4 and ~6p. Yuck.

Hummm. . . well, Ricky had no trouble with the Ancients. In fact, he drank one potion the whole time, after the Whirler hit him 4 or 5 consecutive times, dropping his life to ~10%, way lower than its been since A2. But they all went down so fast I didn't even see their mods, so I suppose it was successful. I guess Ricky should've stayed at p8 or something, since he didn't level at the Ancients, in fact, they didn't even grant half of a level. Oh well.

On a similar topic, I have a 3os Superior Edge Bow, and some 2os Ghost Armor. The merc's been killing stuff with the Edge for quite some time now, and probably doesn't need much in there, but might it be worth sticking some runes/jewels/gems in either? I have a pTopaz, a couple of flawless, and several regular Topazes, and a similar situation with all other gems; I have at least 2 of every rune up to Ort, plus a Dol (meh); and still have some pretty meh jewels.

Hummm. . . I think I'll have some beers and think about it. . . Baal will still be there in an hour or two, right?

And Gamer looks like something I wouldn't like . . . over the top, indeed.

And I haven't thought about Chumbawumba in years. And now I can't get that song out of my head (and I didn't even click the link): jeez.

I'll have an Anniversary Ale, thanks.

Cheers! :guiness:

Ale'ing JayGun! Is there anybody out there, out there, out there...

If you're not struggling currently with Ranger Rick, don't rock the boat. Save those gems/jewels for when you find better gear and when you need them more.

IIRC, The Ancients always dole out the same amount of experience, but is cut off at an exact level upgrade when you're at a low level. So if your experience level is high enough, it can do a ton of good. It's why you sometimes see people not tackle the Ancients in Hell until they've gained an incredible clvl so they receive maximum experience points without penalty. (I know, convoluted idea. Ask someone else.

Yet, seven beers in and I can still spell convoluted and ... something else impressive that I've forgotten about. Okay, the beer has takes its effect. If I was typing without looking at the screen, I'd be incoherent!)

Beer number eight, please! Man, I haven't had this much to drink since... South By SouthWest last year? Wow. ...Cigarette break!

edit: We should totally get together. That is all. Over. *CHHCKHKKK*

I remember reading something about experience with the ancients. . . Maybe I'll have to look that up before I tackle them again.

and, edit to above, the 3os bow is a Razor Bow, not an edge bow. . . superior with 10%ED and some AR.

7 beers and still spelling convoluted? Nice. I'm 1/3 in and thinking about knocking off for awhile to see if Ricky can finish up A5. . . decisions decisions. And I need to eat something . . . dumplings, here I come! If I can find a decent old movie on, I'll probably just pound booze and eat dumplings, if not, it'll be Baal's turn to die, and maybe some cows as well.

And here, have you one of these Anniversary Ales. . . they're pretty tasty, but not my favorite from Sierra Nevada. Still tasty, though.

Congrats on your 800th post!

Something I've been a little surprised about is your diligence toward completing all the quests with your tournament character. Nilith? Cows? I didn't even tackle Blood Raven with mine... (I'm thinking about dropping out of the tournament, myself. Not because its posing to be a challenge, but I'm so used to twinking builds it's that I'm against moving on with a Holy Fire Ranger without exploding arrows and pierce. It's the perfectionist in me. I was hoping the re-running aspect would keep me in the competition, but apparently...)

All I've got are Dos Equis. So nothing special. I don't even know where the closest Whole Foods is to get some decent beer. But imbibing alcohol is such a random thing for me that there has never been a need. If I ever need a suggestion for superb beer, I know who to talk to.

Damn. I'll have to pay more attention to my post counts. . . can't let #1000 be so mundane! :D

And it's not really diligence. . . it's OCD. I can't bear to see the waypoint window with darkened waypoints, and don't really like to see the quest window unless everything is greyed out (but I've sortof gotten over that one, since I decided to start saving imbues and sockets). I do skip a bunch of the non-essential areas, though, and often leave whole areas of maps unexplored, especially if I'm feeling in a hurry or tired or drunk or whatever.

And I couldn't believe it when I made it past TRM in the bow tourney. I figured you just hadn't updated the table or something. . . come on TRM, you can't let the JayGun beat you! I am teh suxxorz and you take Fire Druids throu 1000-odd deaths to Patriarch! 5 deaths and I delete the toon!

I need something for my headache. I accidentally strayed into a thread with very poor spelling, punctuation and grammar. Usually I'm quite easy going, but this was really bad. So bad that I had to give up due to the headache it caused!

I'm gonna need some painkillers and a glass of cold water!

I'm totally with you on the OCD about waypoints (except Hell Halls of Pain) and quests - I like to complete a difficulty before I move on (although this does not extend to the three quests which I always save: imbue, socket and personalise)

You should see my Atma organisation lol.

Also congrats on your post spammage - I have a long way to go it seems!

Its funny to see it time to time, BUT I can`t stand too much of it! (the way you criticize yourself as a gamer in almost every post or so it seems) If you would try to be as accurate and careful at playing the game as you are at throwing names like "noob" and "suxorz" at yourself you would be one of the most successfull and skilled Diablo players of all times !!!

No offense, really, just had to say this :)

*oops, my first post at the Bar, a quick :guiness: and I`m out of here - loosing too much D2 time would be such a pitty, right?...:guiness:*

Edit @ioupainmax: sorry for any extra headache if I caused some, my spelling is never good and only getting worse since the times of highschool...not much I can do about it when pretty much all of my typing in English consists of some game forum posts :-P

@nermind: Ok. I'll try to watch it. . . but I'm really not very good at video games of any sort, but I'll try to keep my self-criticism to a minimum. And, anyways, once I get RangerRick to A1Nightmare, I'll likely slow waaay down on the critiques anyway.

And I'll have another Anniversary Ale, if you don't mind.

Cheers! :guiness:

Ricky Did It!! Woo!!!1!!1!!!!one!!

Now didn't FE say something about not worrying about getting something accomplished until I get a tourney toon through Normal? I'll have to check. . . Oh, here it is!

I'm really not getting the hang of this WoT. Maybe I'll get the hang of it by the time JayGun completes Normal mode with a tourney char, although I may need to use cryostasis to help me achieve that :whistling:

Well, I made it, but your w0t still leaves something to be desired! NannyNannyBooBoo!

SO, once I finish up the Anniversary Ale I cracked just before Ricky entered the Worldstone Chamber, I'll have an Arrogant Bastard, yep.

Cheers, bar! :guiness:

@TRM a few posts back: We train with short sticks, about the lenght of an arm, or 8 fists. One full force hit to the hand will make you you can't use it in the fight. Even better if you hit the elbow - you take out the hand and the elbow.

On "mind, body and kickass moves" the host broke a coconut with the kind of stick we work with. Then he said the coconut is twice the strength of a human skull. It can incapacitate.

UFC has technique, just like box. My teacher said that there was a period in the UFC when everyone was putting on lots of muscle, and techinque suffered. But later they started focusing on techinque again.

'gratz CrazyGun. Now, remember what I said about A1 NM.
