Why isn't anyone posting at the EMB?

As a resident spammer, I feel I should defend myself:

I went out to lunch and then MP'd all evening. With you, in fact.

Why isn't anyone posting at the EMB?

And as the resident drunk, I've been too busy deciding whether to make a beer run or pound the Arrogant Bastards I have stashed away.

Also:
I've also been busy thinking about getting a new lappy. The monitor on the MacBook is starting to make a strange hissing noise when I do any sort of photo manipulation/viewing which is starting to bother me a bit. Also, momma yanked the power cord out yesterday, which did no damage to the lappy (thanks to the magnetized adapter), but did sort of twist up the cord itself and seems to have caused a slight short. Additionally, in 2007, my cat dumped a glass of water on the computer (which required a new logic (mother) board, new ram, new Superdrive, new graphics processor, and new Battery/usb hub thingamajig = ~$1400 (original computer cost = $2400)), then I spilled a glass of beer on it (thankfully the keyboard was covered at the time), then I got busy laughing at something and spat a huge mouthful of sweet/skim coffee all over the screen, keyboard, etc. No problems yet. ('Yet' being the operand here, and likely inclusive of the noises its been making of late.) So, maybe time to get a new one before this one dies and leaves me screwed. So, decisions:

1) Hold out until this one dies or the next MBP update rolls out or Snow Leopard appears or D3 comes out.
2) Buy a new 13" MBP ($1800 with warranty): 2.53 Processor, 4G ram, NVidia 9400 GPU and hope it works for D3.
3) Buy a new 15" MBP ($2600 with warranty): 2.8 Processor, 4G ram, NVidia 9400 GPU and NVidia 9600M Graphics Card (or go all out and get the CPU upgrade—to3.06—for $2900)

I can afford any of the lot, except perhaps 1) if I don't keep up with my backups, but I'd rather afford the cheapest option. But if I'm going to purchase a new computer before D3 arrives, I want to purchase one that will run D3, but no one has any clue what the sysreqs will be for D3. Plus, I probably shouldn't base my computer purchase(s) solely on the D3-playing ability, anyway, and I don't really need a new lappy just yet (but I might, say, tomorrow or the next day or next month, since this one is starting to go a bit south-ish).

:scratchchin: Thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

Ok. Beer run time! w00t!

(1) of course. I suspect (2) will probably be enough to run D3, but who knows? Don't throw out a computer if it's still working. You can replace the power cord.

Wouldn't a laptop, you know, melt from having TWO video cards in it?

Nope. (It only uses one at a time. The 9400M is integrated on the logic board and shares 256MB with main memory; the 9600M is discrete and has its own 512MB memory. You switch between the two based on usage needs.)

Edit: @Esso: well, I agree entirely. But I can afford a new lappy now and might not be able to in some number of months. Also, it's not that I mind replacing the power cord, it's just that the power cord and the display are the only 2 original components left on this machine, and if I replace said power cord, I'll have pretty much already bought a new computer. Straw vs. camel's back, you know. Anyhow, sound advice for sure.

@JayGun: Wait! In this economic climate and with your unsure financial future I would let the clock run out on your lappy. I should take my own advice.

Day two of not drinking involved two pints of cider, and about five pints of beer. Sigh. My head paid for it this morning. Time to reset the counter again.

Also, I'm purple now. Yay for peer pressure!

Well, I should add that I've been saving for a new lappy for almost 3 years. If I wait around, find a job, and get an apartment, I'll use the money for apartment stuff that I don't need, like stereo/television/fancy sheets/etc. and then I'll not have money saved for a computer. If I buy a lappy sooner than that, I'll still have plenty for get the stuff I actually need for an apartment: bed/sofa/table/desk/chairs.

Anyway, 2 nays, no yays, and one on the fence. I'll keep thinking about it.

New poll:

I just finished the aforementioned beer run. Should I drink half the beer I bought or take a night off? Hummm. . .

And congrats on going purple, FE! I'll likely follow suit once my old Bronze runs out in September or whenever it is.

Edit: and my thought on the diiinet subscription sound relevantly applicable to my thoughts on the new lappy. Hummm.

Take a night off. Your body will thank you. I felt like crap all day today.

Well, I had about 3/4 of one with dinner, then dumped the rest out. For many years now, my motto has been "If you can't make up your mind, don't bother," which I should remember today, since it applies well to purple-ness, lappies, beer-drinking, and numerous other activities. Yep.

So I'm off to play around with nOObFAIL the GwE Dr00d. Good times.

Buy the laptop. Do it for guys like me, who can't afford to replace their 7 year old Dell.

I was just informed that I'll be visiting the grandparents for the weekend. I guess that is good, since I havn't seen them in nigh-on ten years and don't remember them in the least, but it means that I will miss the final days of the Tour. No Champs-Elysee, no final podium ceremony, no epic sprint. Oh, and the day I have literally been waiting for since they announced it, Mt Ventoux? Won't see that either. Hooray! Oh, and the reason we must leave this weekend? There isn't one! We could just as easily have left next weekend, or the weekend after, but no! We must go now!

Can I preorder? Just one large Efes for me and I'll have at 8pm (about 2 hours from now). It's for my vacation, 3 weeks off work! :jig:

Hey Nek, I'd be interested about details of your next tattoo, unless you're keeping it a secret again!

I've been doing some college work but I'm feeling some slowdown - black coffee please.

@Fast Eddie, it's going to be a secret again :) But let's reveal something, it's going to have the same animal theme with a little twist :)

More Efes for me, holiday started 39 minutes ago!

Happy Holiday, Neks!

Whew. I'm ready for a beer, but it's a bit early yet, so how about an iced tea. Yum.

I missed a call yesterday from a woman about a job I applied for, so I called her back this morning. I have an interview on Tuesday morning. I didn't think about it, but that will put a serious damper on my Monday night pub run. Oh well. I'll just have to go extra early!

Have a nice holiday Nek!

Good luck with your interview JayGun, though I'll probably wish you more luck before then. Are you in practice for interviewing? Brush up!

I dusted off my old stashes, and now my Hammerdin is even more overpowered, ololololol...

I'll have a Twinings Breakfast tea please.

(it is my birthday Sunday after all)
It's sunday, so happy B'day Fast Eddie! Enjoy the day with your special gal. ;)

*pops balloon and grabs cake*

Oh, here's your Twinings Breakfast tea too. :)

Just had a heart-to-heart with a good friend. Being able to be totally honest to someone else about all your worries and insecurities is such a great feeling. My depression level just fell down several notches. :)

I love y'all, but I can't share everything about my life. First, it would take too long (the post might rival TRM's  ). Second, I don't think I'm entirely comfortable even if we'll never meet in real life. But a face-to-face conversation with a friend really did wonders for me (and hopefully for my friend, too).
