I've also been busy thinking about getting a new lappy. The monitor on the MacBook is starting to make a strange hissing noise when I do any sort of photo manipulation/viewing which is starting to bother me a bit. Also, momma yanked the power cord out yesterday, which did no damage to the lappy (thanks to the magnetized adapter), but did sort of twist up the cord itself and seems to have caused a slight short. Additionally, in 2007, my cat dumped a glass of water on the computer (which required a new logic (mother) board, new ram, new Superdrive, new graphics processor, and new Battery/usb hub thingamajig = ~$1400 (original computer cost = $2400)), then I spilled a glass of beer on it (thankfully the keyboard was covered at the time), then I got busy laughing at something and spat a huge mouthful of sweet/skim coffee all over the screen, keyboard, etc. No problems yet. ('Yet' being the operand here, and likely inclusive of the noises its been making of late.) So, maybe time to get a new one before this one dies and leaves me screwed. So, decisions:
1) Hold out until this one dies or the next MBP update rolls out or Snow Leopard appears or D3 comes out.
2) Buy a new 13" MBP ($1800 with warranty): 2.53 Processor, 4G ram, NVidia 9400 GPU and hope it works for D3.
3) Buy a new 15" MBP ($2600 with warranty): 2.8 Processor, 4G ram, NVidia 9400 GPU and NVidia 9600M Graphics Card (or go all out and get the CPU upgrade—to3.06—for $2900)
I can afford any of the lot, except perhaps 1) if I don't keep up with my backups, but I'd rather afford the cheapest option. But if I'm going to purchase a new computer before D3 arrives, I want to purchase one that will run D3, but no one has any clue what the sysreqs will be for D3. Plus, I probably shouldn't base my computer purchase(s) solely on the D3-playing ability, anyway, and I don't really need a new lappy just yet (but I might, say, tomorrow or the next day or next month, since this one is starting to go a bit south-ish).
