Well, things have gone from bad to worse. The Truck that I was waiting and waiting to get back from the mechanic yesterday is about to throw a rod through the side of the engine. This is not good, I really didn't have the $800 it was going to cost to fix it to begin with, I REALLY don't know how I am going to afford to either replace the engine or but a new truck. But if I don't have a truck I can't work, so I must figure something out. The bank may feel like throwing some money my way, but I honestly would not do it if I were them. We are going to try t tighten everything that we can, and save some money. The first thing to go was the TV service And it just happened to be the last day of my billing cycle yesterday when I called, so I only had about 2 hours to say goodbye before it was disconnected. Going to go down to the car lot today and see what I can make happen.

We've tried to tighten up too, we've reduced our TV and internet services (they stopped our extra services about five seconds after we hung up the phone). We also shop at cheaper supermarkets, I've stopped leaving my PC on overnight to DL stuff (running an 850W PSU too), and I try to pick up stuff from the charity shop I volunteer at. Luckily we don't have any credit cards or any loan debt except student loans. Sorry to hear about your truck. I know nothing about cars, and after repairing the things the garage-I-bought-it-off failed to fix/notify me of (£80) in September, I had a £350 MOT bill in early December. So I feel your pain slightly. Do US garage bills resemble the gaz-guzzling powerhouses you guys actually drive?

My car cost over $8000 to fix a bunch of front end damage, but I certainly don't drive a gas guzzler . Thank goodness for insurance.

Insurance is expensive. My insurance company quoted me £300 in addition to the £1050pa I'm paying, to change my address from Cornwall (very rural) to the outskirts of Plymouth (pretty darn-tootin' urban) and I couldn't afford to pay it, so it's still registered to my address in Cornwall. I read some reviews of them recently and they're notoriously bad, apparently. Thank heavens I haven't had to claim so far. They shall be dumped in July.

£300 for how long of a deal? I have to pay $650 for 6 months. I'm sure that's going to jump even higher now too.

Not per se but I basically moved from the country to the city: no off-road parking, more mileage per year, more metropolitan, more people, more crime, more cars to crash into, flip, do a barrel roll and die in a fire... The cost goes up.

I only qualified last July at the age of 26, so that's why the premium was so high to begin with.

Well, I walked into my bank and after about 30 min I walked out with a $12,000 unsecured loan. Its no wonder this country is bankrupt! Then again I do still have awesome credit, but still...
