Etdlahq Memorial Bar - your shelter from forum crashes

@Ulla: merry onanist? HA! Nice.

@FE: Well, I agree with you about proper english term v. pure slang. But then what excuse does the filter have for filtering out that g word that has to do with merriment? Bastard and *** are both 'the queen's english' as you rightly put it; both can be used as vulgar slurs. Anyway. I'm merely curious as to how certain words are banned while other (potentially more hurtful/disturbing/tittilating) words receive no sanction. Good times.

And I'm on the coffee, just now. . . it's about time to go have a chat with momma, then shower, then check the apartment-hunting place and *hopefully* pick up the phone. Good times.

@CaffieneGun: Although what you're saying is true the G-word is still a slang term for homosexual, or you could use a disingenuous cliched metaphor, such as batting for the other team. To be slightly vulgar myself (a luxury I almost never afford myself) you could use the term organ grinder instead of the W-word.

I'm on my break at work, on the drive-thru which is a rare treat. Slightly tired though. Tempted to have the last can of MOUNTAIN DEW! I bought in Cardiff, but it's actually a present for my caffiene addict friend, who has never heard of MOUNTAIN DEW!. I get to spend the night with the laydee which I'm pleased about, although I'm not sure what we're going to watch. We watched Bolt on Friday night, and it was a lot of fun, once they stopped using bullet time.

then what excuse does the filter have for filtering out that g word that has to do with merriment?

It was filtered out due to the ignorance and insensitivity of forum members who used it as a slur. Not just in the forums where you'd expect that sort of idiocy but here too.

Frankly the way in which several posters here have gone out of their way to ensure the word was used and filtered in this thread - not as a slur but just to see some *** - rather proves the point for filtering.

Irrespective of that, it is filtered. Unfortunate that members can't behave as adults but there we are.

EDIT:
While I'm here I'll have some tea to go with my cheese (see daily) and crackers. Peppery cheese. Yay!

Indeed. And I am as guilty of this as anyone (not the slur part but the *** part), so apologies. And I completely understand the need for the filter, the relative maturity (or lack there of) of people everywhere, and the tendency of many people to use slurs when they have nothing better to say. I still find the filter interesting, though, if only on a purely theoretical level. (Takes me back to my undergrad study of hermeneutics/semantics: fun stuff.)

And another cup of coffee for the JayGun. The brain is firing on all cylinders, and another cup will keep me buzzing around for a few hours. Hopefully the people I'm about to call re apartments are not church-goers. . . or if they are, I hope they don't hold my lack of church-going against me, not that it matters one way or the other.

Now THAT is something that bothers me. I'm guilty of using the 'g' word as a slur, not that I have anything against homosexuals - my uncle is homosexual, great guy.

But prejudice against someone for different beliefs, or lack of? That's just sickening. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

For the record, I'm an agnostic. I don't believe in god, as such, but I won't discount the possibility of his existence until I see conclusive proof one way or another, which is unlikely to happen. I DON'T believe in the Bible, though, mainly because it's manmade and is liable to be rampant with human error.

A glass of tea for Thy, and I think I'll join her on that. . . I'll take mine iced, thanks.

And your daily post makes me hungry for peppery cheese. . . alas, no decent cheese in sight. You also brought back pleasant memories of driving through Cheddar Gorge many years ago: beautiful country, that is, at least until you hit the tourist section. Good times.

I just had the first bit of my peppered cheese. :cloud9: More cheese I tell you, more. This really isn't going to last long. :D

It might be better than chocky.

Nooby! How are you? And how are you liking Monk/Psych? I think Psych is great, but Monk is...not. There was a couple bright spots a few weeks ago, but these recent ones are meh.

I am well. Things have been rough lately but I'll survive.

As for Monk and Psych, I honestly can't offer up much of an opinion because I haven't seen much of this season. Some nights I put it on but fall asleep halfway through. Other nights I just forget it's on.

Oh! I did see the whole episode where Monk impersonates the mafia hitman. I thought that was pretty good. But I'll take your word that its mostly been blah.

Give mee some lambic, I want some acidic beer right now. How about Cantillion Geuze.

Local team (HJK) won 2-0. I'm not happy as there is tie with points between my local and one of the rival gangs (TPS). Four rounds to go and no match between them. Before tonight the scores were HJK 38-18, TPS 37-17. Now if both teams win all the matches it's between the score difference and if that's a tie, which one has scored more. So you can understand that 2-0 was a disapointment as the one before was 4-0.

Had couple of beers at the stadium, then one Urquell in a local after the match. Baked the sheperd's pie I prapared before the match and ate some of it. Going to open a bottle of red and fire up D2.

Ulla

Lambic? Yuck! But I guess that means more lambics for Ulla, yes? And maybe more IPAs for the JayGun? Yum.

So. I have an appointment tomorrow to view some apartments with a local company that specializes in older homes and small apartment complexes. They sound like nice, reasonable people, and I should receive an email shortly with some information about various spots and whatnot. Good times.

The people that I called earlier either didn't answer the phone or told me they'd have someone call me in 10 or 15 minutes and that person didn't call or called back 1.5 hours later. Great way to start a renter/landlord relationship, yes? So I'm going to put all my eggs in one basket and hope for the right place to fall into my lap tomorrow morning. *fingers crossed*

Well, I'd love to join in the beer drinking, but it's a bit early for me yet. So I'll have another iced tea while I decide whether to nap or D2 or sit and stare at the american "armpit-ball" that stepdad has on the telly. (BTW I quite like "armpit-ball"!) Too bad tennis season is pretty much over.

OMG it's Swiller! Glad to see ya. :D

Same to you.

You know, I wandered over here simply to see how Fast Eddie is doing in Fallout 3. But now that I'm here, I find myself happy to be back among all these familiar faces.

So this is my oath: Although perhaps I am not playing D2 (nor have I in at least 6 months) I shall at least endeavor to socialize at this fine bar more often.

And while I do appreciate the talk about lambic...well, shucks. It's rum time over here.

Too bad tennis season is pretty much over.

I concur. I'm still in shock regarding Federer's defeat!

I wandered over here simply to see how Fast Eddie is doing in Fallout 3.

Aww that makes me feel speshul. Since we last discussed it I've finished the main questline for the first time, and I've just restarted after downloading The Pitt, Operation Anchorage and Broken Steel. Later this week I'll be downloading Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout. Although TBH I can't play any of them as the level requirement is pretty high, higher than my new L5 char anyway.

I watched The Informers [2009] this evening, based on a Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) novel. It was really good, but seemed to end before the multiple story arcs finished.

I'm off to play Fallout 3. Already found two quests I didn't do it the last run through and two quests I've never seen before.

Give me a MOUNTAIN DEW! to fuel my playing!

*Dews FE and puts one on ice for the Pancake*

Glad to hear the Fallout 3 is going well, FE! I remember seeing commercials for it and thinking "That looks fun!" And then realizing that I 1) don't have a PC; 2) gave my PS2 back to its original owner; and 3) never had a 360. So I decided I would likely be unable to play it. . . Oh well. At least I have D2! They'll never take that away from me!

And I'll have a LongHammer: Yum! :guiness:

Maybe I should have another. . . it's almost dinner time. Yum!

Cheers, bar! :guiness:

Using a mac, of course. :D I'm not a foaming-at-the-mouth Mac user, but I do think it's nicer than PCs at a lot of things, gaming not included.
