Energy shield necessary?

Is energy shield a necessity? I have a meteorb with spirit/magi/spirit (Sword)/dungo (cause it's all i hvae)/ and rockstopper until i get shako.

Without SS, I thought it would help to have energy shield... but just not sure...

Thx for any help.

energy shield is not really necessary. in fact, in my opinion, unless you are gonna make a sorceress that really focuses on energy shield, you should just not bother with it at all. my opinion though  .

That's been my feeling too...however, I have not built a sorc with this lousy of gear in a while  So I'm a little unsure. For meteorb, it just seems like too many points to invest, when meteor/FB and orb/mastery require as many as they do.

I agree. Make sure you ID some of the orbs that drop (swirling crystal, eldritch orb, demon heart, etc.) because some of them have +1 to +3 on energy shield. This would let you experiment without spending the points. I found a +3 with +124 to mana this weekend (throne room before Baal) but ending up selling it, otherwise I would have offered it to you.

General advice here is to go high block with good resists, or build your sorc around vitality and energy shield. You really can't do both. If you only have 50-75 in energy, energy shield is going to have you sucking blue pots more often than you'll like. Most meteorbs don't put a ton of stat points into energy, as a rule.

I've played a ton of sorcs and one skill you get is the ability to get out of the way before something clobbers you. My merc tanks the gloams/souls/death lords and swarming pygmy things for me. I never rush into a room like a barb would. Your playing technique should adapt into avoiding hits. Block/resists are secondary.

I'm also in the lousy (relatively speaking) gear situation - have spent a ton of time leveling instead of mf'ing. I have stormshield waiting for when i get some more fire skill gc's and one or two soj's to keep my skills up. In the meantime have been using spirit shield and eschuta's. My dex will allow max block with ss.
