Easiest Melee Character Build

I am really wishing to have a Melee character. All of my characters thus far are only 2 classes - Necromancer and Sorcerer. All using either spells or minions as their main damage. Well no longer! I wish to get into the thick of the action. But I am at a loss as to which would be the best and most viable build for a melee newbie.

Not looking for too much details here. Be aware that this is untwinked until the character completes Hell (My little challange, although I may think about giving my characters a "reward" every difficulty level clear to keep me intrested in playing...)

Anyway, throw all opinions my way. :)

My shout would go out to Nightfish's Maulassin.

She requires a bit of button-mashing at times, but not much. Finding useful equipment for her is relatively simple. She can start kicking butt (not literally though) right off the bat (especially if you can supply her with the infamous "cheesemaul"). Cloak of Shadows is not only ridiculously overpowered, it is also incredibly easy to use and will completely defang some of the more nasty encounters. And the skill progression is also rather idiot-proof without any number-lore needed.

From my experience, Concentrating Barbarians are the most rugged of all melee characters. Maxed Shout, Battle Orders, and Concentration yields:

+250% Attack Rating (wimpy)
+365% Damage (still pretty wimpy, but...)
+580% DEF, while swinging using Concentrate (WOW)
+ 92% Life, Mana, Stamina (quite nice)

So, if by easy you mean "easy to avoid dying", my vote is Conc Barb. They DO kill pretty slowly, however

.

I'm loving my conc barb. The damage you do is guaranteed during melee fighting, hits from monsters come so much less often that you have tons of time to disengage a group, and with a level 1 battle cry every so often it's that much easier to tank your way through packs. Plus you can use a shield unlike the frenzybarb.

Maul / Shockwave werebear with an upped Ribcracker = lots of fun.

A barbarian with dual axes and dual throwing axes is fun with points in Axe Mastery, Throwing Mastery, Double Swing, and Double Throw, and don't forget your Warcries!

tesladin, with a holy freeze merc, although to keep your merc alive you would have to shop mephisto for a bit, and you would need your merc in hell, although same can be said for a frost zealot too.

WW druid or Avenger would be my vote. Patted both without any major obstacles.

Melee is good, mmm-okay... :D

Conc Baba or Fury/Rabies.

Conc baba making use of Howl and Taunt is great fun. A slow killer but can get through it with the correct use of warcries.

The Fury/Rabies wolf can pack a ton of damage and when overwhelmed can still run away from the fight and leave the baddies poisoned.

Just my two bob/cents/euro etc

I haven't played too many melee characters in my time, but I'll put my vote with a plain old Zealot. All the zealots (Fanatic, Frost and Lightning) are dead simple: put your aura on the right and zeal on the left, and just click away.

Whirlwind is pretty straight forward, even if it isn't as easy as the click-and-hold melee characters like zealots, fury wolves, or concentrate barbs. But it can get mildly addictive to see your character spinning across the screen. Once you start whirling, you'll never want to stop.

I might also add, plain old fanatic zealots have one big advantage over their elemental kindred: the possibility for massive life leech. High damage, high defense, high blocking, fast/uninterruptible attack, and big leech makes for one tough-to-kill character. Of course, you'd have to find a respectable weapon along the way...
