Do you use custom hotkeys?

My custom hotkeys:
a,s,d,f: potions (When I panic, I usually hit those keys, chances are I drink a purple).
space: stand still(need to be pressed a lot, so use thumb)
alt: show item(need to be pressed a lot, so use thumb)
caps: walk/run
tab: minimap on/off
shift: toggle minimap (minimap on the left or right)
middlekey: clear screen (replace esc)

g: townportal
h: swapweapon
q,w,e,r,t,y: main skills
z,x,c,v,b: secondary skills/prebuffs
1,2,3,4: prebuffs/rareused skills.

Nope, I use everything the way it was oringinally set up. Still use the F keys for my skills even.

If I were to switch now it would just feel wrong.

Fingers on asdf, thumb on space.

a = normally teleport, because you rarely want to move your little finger and always want quick access to teleport.
s = backup skill you always want to have handy, like static on a sorc, mind blast on a sin etc
df = main skills first element
g = quick switch to skill that isn't used all the time, like redemption on a pala or telekenesis on a sorc


qw = summons and posibly crowd control spells that are rarely needed to be recast
er = main skills second element (moving from df to er is quite comfortable after all)
t = skill you rarely use but still need, dual immune killers etc


zxcvb = prebuffs and other stuff.

I've stuck weapon switch to mouse up, and inventory to § (above tab next to 1, iirc where tilde is placed on the english keyboard layout).



Bit annoyed about the space key, on paladins I want "stand still" there to use his skills, but to other chars I'd have more use from "show items". Why is space still designed to take up so much space ... by now we could have split it in two and have "left" and "right" space ...

i play chaosruns almost only so i have to switch tele and fury fast :p

1234 <--- belt
w <-- change to bo (2wep/shield)
e <-- change tele(fury
r,f<-- tele/fury
space <-- shows items on floor
i cast valkyrie by clikin attack anc change there and then just prech e and tele to chaos :D

I'm with Shaigon and Twoflower too. A few years ago, I tried to change to custom keys and it was just a perpetual disaster. I was worse than noob all over again and it didn't get any better so I switched back. I guess I'm just hard-wired for the defaults.

I use a nostromo n52 gamepad for all pc games... I guess it couldn't get more custom than that.

I leave it on default for the most part. I switched clear chat screen to "space" to make it easier to wipe spam, and I use esc to clear windows.
 
I used to usually use space for tele and maybe switch back to main attack with middle mouse. If I was playing a hammerdin I had S set to Concentration and D set to Hammer. Then I had X set to Vigor and C set to charge. That way i could just kind of hold shift down with my pinky and just move the two fingers back and forth together to switch back and forth. Worked pretty well I guess.

use pinky to hold shift really increases your hand's stress level, especially if you regularly play 5 hours non-stop.

I can't get them to work on my Mac. :(

Only the f-keys will work, and even then only if I disable their primary function first.

I leave everything at default, except for activating F9-12 for skills as well.

I am used to using the main default keys for the last 10 years now (w for weapon swap, 1-4 for potions), along with the mouse side buttons for showing items and mouse wheel for skill rotation.
I also try to play safely most of the time, and I trust my character builds and personal skills, so I can even affort to place my hand on the right Shift, Alt, Ctrl buttons for stationary attacks and item showing.

I use F1-F12 exclusively. Using the other keys confuses me too much, as I tend to press the wrong keys in surprise situations. You have to enable F9-12 for that, however.

I always use F4 for TP and (if available) F5 for teleport.

Edit: It seems I already wrote half of that two posts avove :rolleyes:.

Two things contributed to me customizing my hot keys. I'm left handed and for the first 5 years I played on a laptop. I came across a post where it was suggested that a key pad be used and then customize the keypad for your function keys. Even now that I play with a full keyboard I find that I really like the number pad instead of the function keys.

Since I'm left handed the mouse is in my left hand and my right is at the keypad. Makes much more sense to me than the defaults.

Yeah of course I do use hot keys. Its too hard using the f1 etc row. So yeah I change hot keys depending on taste.

I played SP for a couple of years before going to B.Net (moved back for good after the first season of 1.10), and got used to using the F keys. I'll assign A and D to a couple skills sometimes, but am still most comfortable using the F keys.

Of course, I have a custom keyboard, carved by resurrected 18th century scrimshaw artists out of unicorn horn. It's pretty rare.

I recently switched to assinging C for char, B for pack, N for skills, L for quests, (the one to right of "M") for run/walk, caps lock for wepswitch, qwertyasdf for skills. F is usually the tp. I also have 6789 for the left-hand side skills. Otherwise it is default.

The reason for my switch is that on Sidewinder x4 the F## buttons are so horrible :D

Hm I think I might try the space bar to clear the chat screen idea. I always find myself hitting M instead of N, which of course brings up my message log, which of course further blocks my view. So I end up pressing M ESC N most of the time ~_~

Not sure why a 2 month old thread was bumped but I'll play along :).

After playing WoW for an extended period of time (and old fps games as well), my hand is pretty much hard wired to sit on the wasd keys (middle on w, index on d, ring on a, pinky on shift, thumb on space....because everyone knows you have to jump constantly in WoW). That said, here is a basic rundown:

W - always my main attack
E - my secondary attack that I switch to often
R - pretty much always tp
A and D - my main CC type skills
S - usually a summon type
F - buff (fade, shiver armor, etc)
G - secondary buff if needed
Z - secondary attack used on rare occasions (think CBS for a trap asn)
l Ctrl - sometimes used on chars with many hot keys.
1-4 - potions
` - weapon switch
Space - show items (why do people still use alt?)
Shift - stand still which is defaul I believe.
