Dmg Redux or Max Block For Elemental Druid?

I'm thinking about making a PvM elemental druid...Not sure on fire or wind...but I was wonderinf if I should go w/ max block or dmg redux? I'm leaning towards redux as druids have a high life anyway cause of oak sage.

Thoughts?

Depends which element you go with.

Fire: Max Block
Fire spells are usually cast at a distance (except Firestorm).

Cold/Wind: Damage Reduction
You are usually much closer to the enemy and will get hit a lot more when cast Hurricane and Tornado, etc.

Well I def would not go fire with mediocre gear. A fire druid is already underpowered (comparative to the Wind druid).

Enigma is expensive, but SS and Shako is not. I would, though, rather use Viper Magi than shaft. So at least max block, but in the future, if you stick with the char, you will have max block.

Shako and stormshield are all you really need. Both can be gotten for pul or less. Max block is a very nice thing for pvm or pvp. Always keep an eye on oak sage. The little bastard likes to wonder off towards the most dangerous area it can find. He means about half your life usually so try to keep him casted at all times.

Fire druid you might be able to get away with little DR but with windy you're up close with everything so you have to be able to tank. Fire elem druids are somewhat difficult because of imunes. Phys imunes are few and far between(and most are weak so hurricane kills) while fire immunes are everywhere. Merc with reapers toll takes care of any phys imunities, but fire immunes are harder to deal with. Keep that in mind.

Good luck.

eh well, shako and enigma plus a whitsan's are more than enough defense for anyone. throw in SS and swap out to a vipermagi (less expensive setup) and then you are free to use more skill gear and less res all.

I personally am going for no block, no dr (besides enigma and shako, 18%) and going Mang Song's lesson. :)

Ive played too long to die ever. I normally go near solo to level 20 or so without dying once and pushing the pace hard. I did hcl and got bored cuz no twinking, but, I didnt die my first shot at it. really, Fasterunwalk, FHRecovery, and a decent life pool makes for my guys always living. get like 70% frw or more and life is easier. also, getting fcr up a few notches allows one to move after casting faster ive noticed.

Getting high ravens is another way to not need defenses as much.

I am far from rich. I'm going to play this druid single player...so no handmedowns or uber items. Only what I can find.

I'm thinking about playing a windy. Are they fun to play? I've never played one.

I've read the guides but they said little about summons. Will carrion vine be helpful? Windy seems suited to dmg reduction so carrion vine would be great for helping me regain life. What about ravens? They fit the theme of a wind druid great, I also heard they blind enemies...do enemies also attack them?

Thanks.

Since you are playing completely untwinked you should go with windy. Fire druid is hard enough when you have perfect gear. Without that gear you would have a very hard time in hell and late nm. Holy freeze is always a decent choice. You have freeze in the form of hurricane but it doesn't last more than half a second in hell so the extra slow helps alot. Between merc and bear/wolves you should be pretty safe. Not sure how well prayer works, but I doubt it can help much past normal.

Windy is pretty fun for me at least. You can't just zone out because tornados are so random. You have to actively aim them so they don't start veering off to the side and completely missing your target. Carrion vine could be helpful, but I'm not sure how long it can last in hell. It would save you some town trips to buy more potions at least.

Ravens are always nice. They don't do much damage but they can blind those annoying ranged monsters. Monsters will not attack them though. They work wonders against souls. I would only drop a point or two in and use whatever plus skills you find to boost them.

ravens are worth every extra point you put in them. blinding a lil, eh its ok, blinding instantly everything as you spam them over monster, that's nice.

If i was going untwinked, I would concetrate on res all, like 40-50% block and faster cast rate. total damage isnt necessary if you have only 1 player on at a time. speed of them comming out is everything. carrion vine is worth pumping a bit if you have no plus gear to speak of. like 5-7 base, people say its a waste, but when you run around, it dies a lot in areas. It does have a quick diminishing return, but a 1% difference is highly noticable, plus it wont die so often. oak sage, well, you can do this to taste. i suggest tactics vs massive sage. it limits your damage. however, an act2 merc LOVES oak sage. it pads the difference in him leeching/getting hit. most mercs die just as they were about to leech their life back, but didnt have the hps. it makes a good tank with os. Go holy freeze, thats pretty standard.

I would do it if you're on sp. No one trys to pk you and you can't lag-die. It adds a bit more to the game when you have to avoid death at all costs.
