1) Turn on your 4K monitor.
2) Change the launch file to window mode by adding -w to the target. Open Diablo II in 800x600.
3) Get the $5 version of the Lossless Scaling software from Steam.
4) Set the Scale Factor to Custom 2.4, Sharpness 2, Scale Type FSR. Scale in 5 seconds, back to Diablo II.
5) Enjoy
I was messing around with AMD's open source upscaling algorithm in the Lossless Scaling Steam application. To my delight it will upscale the original Diablo II to my 4K display. It looks quite a bit better than just stretching the window by maximizing. The aliasing is much improved this way. It's still in 4:3, and you get some black side bars.
If you are using a smaller resolution like 1080p, you use a smaller scale factor until it fits nicely.
