DECA: Dueling Everyone Can Afford

Then we don't have to play at all, cause sorcs will tear everybody apart, especially melee (except chargers)

I believe that teleport was banned, so the sorc would be subject to the same FRW penalty as everyone else. I actually think sorcs are underpowered under the current set of rules and that an all-tele environment would be better for a sorc than a no-tele environment, but that's going against the spirit of "affordable" PvP.

As far as item versions are concerned, 1.10 and 1.11 items are identical in every way. Characters, however, must be of the same patch version in order to be in an MP game together.

uh sorry guys, I thought that teleport is banned as an o-skill or from charges, and that sorcerreses are allowed to use it.
edit:
I agree that without teleport sorcs are underpowered, my opinion is that sorcs should be able to use teleport, but characters that play against them could use as much fr/w as they want

forgot knockback, I think we'll stick with 1.11 only

I'm assuming that pre 1.11 items are Ok as long as the item is unchanged in 1.11. So all 1.10 items would be Ok.

It's funny...I read the title and thought someone finally decided to take the twinking out of dueling. But, no. It looks like you folks are just introducing another tier into the world of "too rich for you" dueling.

If a dueling tournament ever arises that actually offers a system that EVERYONE can afford, consider me ready! Until then, a re-titling of the thread might be in order.

G'day Foghorn. As you may have noticed in this thread (depending on whether you read it or not), there is a discussion taking place. This discussion is to determine a ruleset that will hopefully make PvP "affordable" for most of the SPFers. Obviously you have an opinion on what is "affordable"... Would you care to share it? If you don't agree with something in this thread, how about offering an alternative?

I agree with what Skaman said, but would like to expand a little on your comment.

It appears that what you would like to see is an untwinked PvP tourney? This might be the ultimate "affordable" tourney, but that still doesn't eliminate a person from doing multiple runs to get "rich" items. I would like to hear a little more of what you had in mind.

Are you kidding me ? I'd like to see a sorc rip me appart with the current rules ;)

FoghornLeghorn: Obviously to some extent dueling requires some wealth. By saying everyone, I meant a dueling league in which everyone, if they put in some time in, would be at least competitive in. If you're just starting up/restarting this may be a problem but if you've played for I'd say three or four months I think you could afford to compete in this league. As I said, If I am wrong, the standards will be lowered more, but I don't think we should have to ban any set/uniques. Of the truly rare uniques, only CoA is useful and even so you can't Ber/Ber it and the strength required to use it without enigma is pretty hefty.

and the comment that sorceress's are underpowered without teleport i would have to disagree. KNOWING that your opponent cant teleport you can easly hit them alot more then they would hit you. But they will get slaughted a bit disadvantaged against ranged attackers.

*waves hello*

So, here's the way I see it. We're given character classes that have an established set of skills. And those skills, generally speaking, govern the playstyle of any given character.

So, when I read "Dueling that Everyone can Afford", I assume that we're including those who have nothing but their starter sword/claw/club/etc and shield.

Has anyone considered simply dueling with normal/excep/elite white items (depending on character levels, I suppose) and allowing everything skill-wise? I can understand the issue of sorcs teleporting, but you could always have a smaller "ring" size (a use for bonewall :-P) to control runaways.

I was thinking. Seeing as barbs might have be how about capping them to only 1 source of absorb as they will have double their life anyway ?

Well this thread has kind of been inactive for the past day. Guys start making your duelers/equiping pvmers so that can make the switch! My zealot is at lvl 60 right now so he should be ready in a couple days. Start posting invitations to duel in this thread (if you're ready)

O_M since we don't have a tournament yet, lets try to figure these things out after we start to get some active dueling, although that is a good idea.

Errr Duh?
NO competetion for casters that get all of their damage from using spells. Barbs and Zons and Paladins ( most of them ) get their damage from weps. Their skills require the use of a good weapon to be succesfull.
What would be the point of a barb running around with a Colus Blade ( If he could find) doing around 100 damage when a naked FB sorc can do 4k damage?

Jantia's dueling idea's are fine.

Lolz woot..

ahem, I"m guessing you just saw something like latest posts and read this thread, but this is for single players duelers.

I was going to suggest this myself but you beat me to it. I have been playing for about a year (not solid) and have a grand total of 1 EU. I thought the whole idea of the duel would be who is the more skilled player not who has the best gear and the white items would do that as they could even be supplied by the organisers if people don't have any.

Edit: fixed typo.
